Any word on the next 360 BC updates?

I said it before and I'll say it again... not expect anything anytime soon, perhaps even ever. I've always believed that MS might go and patch all their first party games that aren't working already and just leave it as that. They clearly don't care about BC.

Stubbs the Zombie is already there according to xbox.com

Que?

Anyway, no word on the bc front. MS did say that they wouldn't have press releases and the like everytime though. When (if, heh) more games are added they'd simply update the list on xbox.com.

I'm still waiting on the Metal Slugs, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Street Fighter Collection, and a few other great (although admittedly niche) titles. I doubt I'll ever see these become compatible, but it pisses me off every time I think about it still.

I bet they add them occasionally.

Though in the 1up video of the desert event, when Peter Moore talks about it with Che, he distinctly says that team is taking a break.

I really hope they continue to update it. Get Sega's games, Phantom Dust, Psychonauts, and a few other niche titles working and I'd be a lot happier with the whole BC situation. If they just completely drop it from here on out that would be pretty shitty.

Who's responsible for the patching anyway? Are the devs supposed to do it, or are they supposed to submit a request to MS, or do the two work in tandem? How does the process take place.

If it's up to the devs to patch, start sending some emails out. If the devs submit to Microsoft, then I doubt we'll ever see an update again.

They need to worry about fixing up the games that run like crap before they think about adding any new ones. I wouldn't expect much in the way of updates. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I'm with you guys. I think they just wanted to make sure Halo worked good and then they moved on. I'm not terribly concerned with it, but it would be nice to have a few more niche titles.

Taking a break? TAKING A GOD DAMNED FUCKING BREAK!? Have they even seen the Japanese BC list!? For fuck's sake MS. Pull your finger out.

It's all up to Microsoft, as I understand it...

Or what, the 28 people who are gonna buy an X360 in Japan are gonna be pissed? :)

Dude, STFU. You have no idea of what you're talking about and you certainly don't have a clue as to what MS executives are planning. 200+ titles was more than anybody believed to be available yet "they clearly don't care about BC"...Pfft!

200+ titles that no one really plays, Barbie's horse adventure must be top on your list.

There are TONS of games that I'd love to see BC, but I highly doubt MSFT is gonna do anything about it -- 200 titles out of the however many multiple hundreds out there is meaningful yes, but not when they're crap games.

And 3rdman, xbot man, whatever, If we dont have any idea what we're talking about, lets see your secret document, or stamp of awesomeness where you're any more right than we are in saying that we dont have a clue what MS execs are planning and you do... Blind faith is a bad thing, If I've ever learned anything from being a Nintendo supporter, it kind of takes over your common sense and then you just become a God Warrior like that fat bitch from Trading Spouses 2x1/2x2

Xbot...LOL. I don't have blind faith...In fact, my "faith" is based on what has thus far materialized. GAF members scream that there wasn't gonna be any BC whatsoever...MS announces that indeed there will be. GAF then screams that only Halo and Halo 2 would be compatible, MS proves you wrong again. Now GAF is screaming forget about any updates...somehow I don't believe you. Now, if you want to get right down to it, neither you nor I have any idea of what is planned, but I see no reason why it should be assumed that nothing will happen.

I was expecting monthly or bimonthly updates. Only currently non-BC games I keep my Xbox hooked up for:

1) The Warriors
2) Ninja Gaiden Black
3) New Prince of Persia

You have to admit though, the BC that did come to fruition is pretty botched in some cases.

I've never claimed otherwise. But, its also better than most here believed possible. I choose to optomistic about it, but I would be upset if they didn't get around to supporting more of my favorite games (Orta, JSRF, etc.).

Street Fighter : Anniversary Collection, come on come on! The controller has a crappy d-pad, but dammit it has shoulder buttons! Its a fair trade!

I still say Ninja Gaiden Black runs fine, despite all the hoopla. Yes, there is slowdown on the first boss fight and sometimes in area transitions, but that's really it. It's dealable since it doesn't skip frames and instead slows down, SNES-style. I'm used to that to some degree anyway (and I never played NG on the Xbox to begin with).

I don't think we'll see another update until PS3 is near or launches with superior BC, at which point this issue might become important enough for MS.

As it stands now though, I think MS considers that the BC issue is dealt with. The system had a big launch, they don't have enough consoles to meet demand, mindshare is high, and things look good for the Christmas season. Maybe in the January to April lull, there might be enough of a drought that MS feels the need to release some updates, but my guess is they won't feel any heat on this subject until Sony shows their BC solution - if it's better than MS', then we might see some updates. If PS3's BC is as much of a cock up as X360's, then we might not.

They've been doing something, because Ninja Gaiden (PAL) didn't even start on launch day, but seems to be working now.

I wish people and MS would stop saying backwards compatible. It's not. That is a complete misnomer. It's backwards patchable.

Do some of you people not have working Xbox 1s? If you want to play your Street Fighter tape that badly, MS is not cock-blocking you in any way.

I am playing SF on my Xbox, but it'd be much easier if my 360 could do it. The 360 controller is better suited for fighters with its trigger buttons. And my Xbox mic is busted, and the 360 mic is designed to not fit into the Xbox communicator box. Plus, I put my custom arcade stick on hold so that I could get an arcade stick to work on the 360, so I'd like to get that going as soon as possible.

Xbox 1 takes up too much space and having to move it back and forth from the closet may bring about long-term injuries. Also I don't think anyone had intentions of fucking Street Fighter and last I checked games weren't on tape. At least not since the Commodore 64. IIRC

Hope they fix the texture loading problem in Jade Empire. It's not a bad problem, as it only comes up in a handful of locations throughout the game (Pilgrim's Rest Inn, Scholars Garden, Market District, and Imperial Palace). But it's still kind of annoying.

If you want to play them that badly, and apparently you do, you should find the space or suffer through the pain. Just as if the 360 weren't backward compatible at all. Oh, and learn to laugh when someone uses the phrase "game tape" facetiously. :)

Nobody plays Halo, KOTOR, Fable or HL?

Damn... and here I was thinking that those were all popular games. Silly me.

I threw in Ninja Gaiden last night and it did an update in about 20 seconds or less... after the quick restart thing it does... Ninja Gaiden started.

I played Level 1 up to the last boss and I forgot he grabs you and he killed me... I did not want to use health so I will try it tonight.

I noticed slowness on some multi-ninja screens... but it helped me kicked major ass! The first boss was slow during his talking and the sound effects were a little off.

I think Microsoft's team did a good job...

Does anyone know the answer? My X-Box is set to 1080i, since Ninja Gaiden was only 480p... do I need to lower the display settings for Ninja Gaiden?

There is an area of the 360 that will automatically scale and anti-alias for your TV. I believe it happens in the frame buffer, but I could be wrong. You don't have to change your TV or 360 settings at all. Just let the 360 scale as needed.

I dont see how slowdowns, framerate problems, screen tearing, audio synch problems = good job. Before they start bringing out new games, how bout they go back and fix the already released ones. Im keeping my xbox, when I get the 360.

Yeah but Ninja Gaiden was "working" at the US launch...patching it to boot with the PAL version isn't the same as actually adding new games...and they still didn't fix the emulation of NG either.

Supporting GTA, Halo, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, KOTOR, Rainbow Six 3, Forza, Prince of Persia is pretty good.

They need to get support for:
Splinter Cell
Rallisport
Doom
Far Cry
SW: Battlefront II
BLACK
DOA Ultimate
Burnout
Project Gotham
POP 3
Counter Strike

And Street Fighter Anniversary, Metal Slug 3,4 and 5, OutRun 2, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Otogi 1 and 2...and to fix the problems with Ninja Gaiden

I dunno, man, it's really great, if you ask me, especially how they kept online play intact and even upgraded a couple games. But I only own 3 xbox games. (Crimson Skies, Halo 1, Ninja Gaiden Black). lolz

I think they're targetting Xbox newbies (like myself) who want to check otu the "best" of the first gen's library. It sucks that it's not better, but those three are the only ones I wanted to play, so I'm not disappointed. Well, except maybe Street Fighter Anniversary. Live-enabled SF sounds like a dream come true.

I did the download-burn to CD patch. Has there been any updates since that one? When I log in to XBL for the first time tonite, will there be a new patch? Maybe Ninja Gaiden is especially bad to me because I have a bad patch or something.

I think the slowdown is greatly exaggerated. Played some Halo 1 and 2 today to just try it out and it's exactly as I remember it. The games played great.

There could well be; when I put Ninja Gaiden in for the first time, the console said something like "there is an update for this game. Download now?" It does the autocheck when you put in the disc. I haven't seen it update anything since that first time though, and that was about 5 days ago.
