Anyone else kinda sad that new Nvidia GPU are much more powerful than PS5/XsX?

But the SSD!

That image..... That is one sticky situation..

No, because I understand the differences between PC and consoles. Tech making big leaps is always good for everyone.

Actually - no. I am happy this is the case since I've been waiting for true successor for my GTX 1080. RTX 3080 is everything I hoped for.

It is just funny that people have these meltdowns - PC is always gonna be superior machine and that's it. It's not just for gaming. And with PC it was always how much you invest in it, that you get. If you're willing ofc.

But there are. The point is that consoles performance is generally consistent while on PC you need to upgrade constantly to keep the performance on newer games consistent.

Again, haven't experienced it. Only in BFV. Slap Ray Tracing off and bam 120+ fps.

Is the morale of the story, it is too complicated to turn off Ray Tracing and getting a ten times better experience, so it's just better to roll with consoles?

Well up until now i thought PS5 has monster specs with its 10tf GPU. Seeing how rtx 3080 has 30tf its kinda insane.Honestly i didnt even thought we'll break 20tf barrier in next 2 years.Even rtx 3070 with 20tf is a monster.

Yeah i know it costs 700$ and building a gaming pc with 8c/16t cpu,Rtx 3080 gpu and ssd would cost about 1500€ but feel a bit sad that PS5 gpu is already now kinda low mid range compared to new gpu's.

I guess i just wanted at least 1 year where consoles are actually on par with high end gaming pc's.
Why would you think PS5 had monster specs when its not even as powerful as the series x? Madness

PC will always dominate the power narrative but unfortunately PC will always be held back by games designed for consoles

It's a GPU for the price of a console so not really. Also I tend to play games 1 or 2 years later max not just before the sequel comes out.

OP its sad to be sad about such nonsense.
Games are important and both next gens are a lot more powerfull than current consoles, we are in for a treat.

And gaming on a PC while I understand its cool (did it a lot in the past) you always worry, there is always something not working, overheating etc. etc. I know this isnt a problem for advanced PC players but of of the gamers arent there. I just like to push a button, get on my couch, relax and play a game.

A myth made by console gamers, an old one.
It all depends on your hardware, and what you want out of it. My 980ti is 5 years old, and can still max most games at 1080p/60. And my 2700X, well if you're happy with 60fps, like i am, well it will last me the whole of next gen, and probably beyond. It laughs at games at 60fps, even ridiculously cpu dependent games like AC Odyssey, where it uses 40-50% cpu usage per core, while my old 6700k (which is still a very solid cpu) would give me a stuttery 50-60fps at 100% usage per core.
I have 32gb of ram, which will be more than enough for the whole of next gen. When i get my 3070 or 3080, it will be good enough for the whole of next gen as well.

Its only the enthusiasts, that have to have the highest framerate, that have to have the highest resolutions, that have to have the best tech at all times, its only those that update constantly.

I do love just flopping on the couch, grabbing a controller and gaming instantly from where I left off on my 4k oled at a moment's notice. And do this almost every day with my consoles.

But every once in a while, I do feel the urge to play in 4k 120 fps, at ultra settings, no matter what I throw at it, sitting in my awesome desk chair and triple monitor setup.

But I have to admit, most nights for this to happen, I have to upgrade drivers, download patches, download Nvidia drivers, download steam updates, download blizzard updates, download Oculus updates, download game updates, and spend time doing alot of other things than gaming for the gaming portion to work .

It's usually worth the extra time, but it's nowhere near as easy or comfortable.

Not to mention what I'm in the mood for is not usually on steam for the first year or so.

I know you can set up a PC and steam link, and ive done it. But the experience sucks compared to a console.

No im absolutely stoked . Not to sound like a tool(but im gonna)once you've experienced high end pc gaming its hard to readjust back. My pc is in for repair right now and im forced to play on xbox One x . And while its not a bad experience and i appreciate having the back up so i can still game it really is a noticeably much less enjoyable experience for me personally. So knowing that these cards that will make games run buttery smooth in 4k 144fps/hz and even higher if you get the 3090 is absolutely insane and enticing. You can run 8k 60 fps on a 3090 for christ sake lol. Crazy. 3080 is all thats necessary in my opinion though and is a great value at 700 bucks. Believe it will entice many to build a pc as it should. They will be thankful because if youre enough of an enthusiast its worth it.

This is actually a good thing it means PS5 efforts on the SSD wasn't in vein. Seems like an industry shift. Hopefully full utilization on I/O bandwidth will be something PC devs shoot for, all gamers pc/console will benefit from it. PC game dev will still be held back somewhat in regards to I/O until majority of base pc systems catch up to what the 3000 series offer. You would need a pricey pc upgrade to just get your foot in the door. PS5 owners will get games designed for I/O ssd bandwidth day one. I'm thinking a lot of innovation will come from console development in that regard.

No. Its always been this way.
I dont buy consoles because I think they are similar specs to PC

Plus the graphic card alone will probably cost the price of 1 and 1/2 PS5's let alone buying a decent CPU/RAM/HDD/Motherboard/Case and all the bells and wistles... no thanks

This is silly. PCs have always been more powerful.

The difference is price.

Sure, super advanced graphics card for $ 1500 (plus the rest of the compurter). Awesome shit, no doubt.

Or a powerful console for around $ 500 that'll play everything released for that console generation.

It's not really comparable. I like PCs, but fuck no if I'm gonna spend that much on it. I've lost interest in keeping up with the tech and building PCs, consoles are just more convenient. And my 970 lasted me for years without me feeling the need to upgrade till recently when it started making noise, so shurgs.

Don't look at the big numbers. Wait for performance. The 3080 is 80% more performant than the 2080.
TBH, the benchmarks do not give the GPU justice. The games are from current gen and don't utilize the architecture and feature set of the GPU. They didn't even utilize the older RTX 2080 efficiently.

It's very unfortunate that all this power get wasted by developers who are comfortable by brute forcing their software.

Wait until you figure out that the 12/10 TF of the next gen consoles is the perf of the whole system, this gpu's TF is just the card. Add the system ram and CPU and God damn, the difference is even bigger.

Oh yeah, and the keyboard, and the mouse, and the sound blaster. That's gotta be at least a couple TFs also.

We haven't really started to see real next gen geometry yet. We will need to wait for primitive/mesh shaders to be utilized.

That aside, the shader performance is not mind blowing. And it isn't burying consoles like many would like. The Series X is 2080-class according to DF. If the 3080 is 70 or 80 percent more performant than a 2080 then it isn't even 2 times the performance of the XSX. It's not enough to make next gen consoles obsolete. They are playing in the same field, only Ampere can play the same titles at higher refresh rates. It's just not in a developer's best interest to use the extra GPU grunt for more dense geometry compared to console versions as it's way more work for little benefit. Until there are true PC exclusives which only target the high end Ampere cards, you are getting console level results with regards to geometry/assets and a debatable 60fps. But even that can be argued.

Ray tracing is a separate discussion.

No, not really.

The reason for that is in your post : "Yeah i know it costs 700$ and building a gaming pc with 8c/16t cpu,Rtx 3080 gpu and ssd would cost about 1500€ "

Also, it helps move things forward with non 1st party games.

To people who are sad.

Do you own both ? No so it doesn't affects you.
Did you plan to own both? Yes than spending 2000$ combined on newgpuPC and Console means you're rich and doesn't affects you that much.
DO you plan to own only one? Than I refuse to believe you don't already have a fav in mind.

People buy console/PC for games and accessibility, not for graphics. A TLOU2-Upgrade on PS5 would look better than most newgpu-PCgame till 2023.

That's always the case though. You can't hope for it to be affordable yet have the hardware not reflect that. The consoles still seem decent for what they are.

Obviously I'm not sad the new GPUs look great, I've been waiting for them to upgrade afterall.

2080Ti (which 3070 is said to match, a statement that needs to be verified by reputable source) is only 12/25% faster than 2080/2080s, which PS5/XSeX respectively are said to beat.

Besides, both PS5 and XSeX beat 3070's 8GB, PS5 beats 3080's 10GB.
It could make an impact.

*licks lips, rubs hands* , not as sad as pc nerds whom just bought top tech pc gear for mad money , and have to spend another 60 g for new gear n rig... same old story , console running gaming progression ,and pc , offering a upgrade (fair enough), to games made for console , for a hefty price(fair enough?) will you see a game running in 8k with effects to marbles 2 tech showcase , in game , on a pc , anytime soon??
i doubt it.
..,but you may on a p5... :p

No, because if you're a console gamer then you should have never cared about "power" since that's never ever been their remit.

The draw of console gaming vs PC has ALWAYS been about affordability, convenience and exclusive games. If you're one of those people that break out in cold sweats at the idea of dropping frames at 120fps and lose sleep over which piece of hardware has the most TP then you should have been/be a PC gamer.

Yeah. Can't wait for all those 8k 'p5' games. I take it they'll have to run in that embarrassing performance mode though, 8k resolution, 3fps....

OP, you really thought a small sized 500$ console would be the most powerful hardware for longer than a few of months after it's specs release? That's just unreasonable. It was a given the new cards are stronger and even the mid range 3060 will be way ahead.

personally , if a 3fps game , came along, on p5 , i think i would personally pass..myself.

Nope. The best looking game of all time is currently a PS4 exclusive and it was designed around 1.84 TFLOPS.

If I recall the ps4 was underpowered as well and we got games looking amazing like GoT, PC will just be stronger overall anyways. I still will prefer playing on the ps5 over PC.

Is a brand new 3060 really mid-range though?

No, why would I be sad about that? Man, can't even say what I think of anyone that got upset about this.

Just be happy the new consoles are as powerful as they are. Previous generation had a shitty CPU problem and the generation before that there was too little RAM. These new consoles seem to have no bottlenecks at least. PCs were always ahead of consoles since the first 3D accelerator card was released and it will always be that way because a more expensive to bulid, bigger, 600w box will always be physically more powerful than a small 250w box, given they are sharing the same generation of parts.

What do you mean? The 60 series was always the mid-range and the 50/30 the low-mid/low end.

Yes this is true. But I mean as of this year, a 3060 GPU card is not a "mid-range" card in reality. It'll be stronger than 90% of GPUs on the market.

It's natural for a brand new mid-ranger to be more or as powerful as previous gen higher end cards. But it's still mid-range for the price point and generation it represents.

Consoles may be outclassed but the jump from PS4 is still significant and I am damn glad it is finally happening. CPU side of it especially.

CPU, SSD\Hard Drive, and the I|O side of it. Games built pushing those three things equally will be where we see the biggest difference between current-gen games and next-gen games. PC included.

Why should I be sad? Graphics cards are not just used for gaming, but also video rendering. This will help me not just play games at a higher quality but also render my stuff much much faster!

It won't get in the way on how I enjoy console games, never has.
