Anyone else not really stoked on Skyward Sword?

Most of the posters here know that I'm a pretty big Zeldaphile. Yet, this is the first Zelda in god knows how long that I've had a mere middling interest in.* But what's weird is that there's not really much reason to think that way. There's nothing in any footage that's been released so far that I really object to sans a possible new tears of light-esque quest and still shitty looking trees. But I didn't really such much to be excited about either. Part of that could be due to the fact that we know almost nothing about the game, and we've only seen one locale and one dungeon. But still, by this point the hype should be off the chart, and I barely found myself caring about the release date being announced, not reading anything past the first couple of posts in that thread. I never do that!

*Oh, sure some might point out that I didn't give a shit about the DS games, but to that I say: really, now? Come on. I mean, come on! Let's be real, 1) nobody, and to clarify, NOBODY liked those games, including the people who claim they like them; and 2) We're only discussing REAL Zeldas, for REAL Americans!

I like Spirit Tracks :[ (Dislike Phantom Hourglass though)

Although I'm not a huge Zelda fan to begin with.

I'm not the biggest Zelda fan myself and nothing can justify the hollowness of the Wii's release schedule. Especially not a single player game that I may replay two or three times at best.

I loved Windwaker, but none of the Zeldas since then on handheld or consoles have caught my eye.

I'm not very excited, because I don't think that Aonuma will make enough changes to the basic structure for the game to feel fresh and challenging.

*raises hand*

Looks straight out boring.
World progress is shuffled up a bit but in the end it's the exact same combat and moment-to-moment flow we have seen since Wind waker. SD graphics doesn't help either.

Same here, my hype level is not low, but standard. Like for a Mario game.
I think this will climb up a bit until the release.

But ultimately, this is a good thing. I have the feeling we don't know very much of the game this time, and Aonuma promise many contents. So, many surprising things possibly, and that's a really good thing. Don't hype/expect too much, this is best way to fully enjoy the game.

I can't say I'm too hyped for it, but I've pretty much been on a media blackout since the initial unveiling. NoA/NCL being assholes is also part of the reason, as well as the new art style.

It needs to be something that I'd play even if it wasn't called Zelda. They've been riding along on the brand alone for a while now imo.

I've been bored as fuck with Zelda since none of the post-Majora's Mask ones lived up to that game. I'm sick of the traditional 3D Zelda... this franchise needs some serious changes to recapture my interest.

I feel sort of the same way. I think it's mostly because of how little has been shown of the game. Pretty much everything I've seen has just been showing of the standard stuff you expect from every Zelda game, and we've only seen like two new items, the beetle and the whip.

I think that most of the stuff that's exciting about the game is the stuff that's hard to demo at E3 or Gamescom. Like the possibliities for the overworld, or dungeon structure, or any part of the story past the first couple hours. Basically it seems like the kind of game where the things that make it cool and new aren't as apparent as something like Mario Galaxy, where you can see very quickly how the structure of the game is different. I have a feeling I'll need to actually play the game for a good amount of time for the exciting stuff to show up.

Oh, and I can honestly say that I liked about half of my time with Spirit Tracks.

Yes but that's just because I don't get excited about new Nintendo first party games anymore.

I'm sure I'll buy it and love it, but its been too long of a wait for me. I'm just in the "I'll play it when it's out" mode.

I'm as excited as I can be for a game. If I could only play one game this year it would be skyward sword. Everything shown so far makes it look like it could be the best zelda game in years. I think it could end up being the best zelda game period.

I'm certainly looking forward it it and I know it's going to be great, but yeah I'm not all that excited.. I think it's more to do with my lack of interest in my Wii, I almost look at it with judgement these days which is sad because I've had a lot of fun with it..

The other reason why I'm not pumped about it is that I'm going to be buying so many other games in November that it almost gets lost in the shuffle.. I mean Super Mario, Mario Kart, MW3, BF3, UC3 and probably a few more while working part time and studying full time is nuts for me..

Zelda is my favorite series, and I've loved every one I've played(didn't touch the DS ones though), but yeah, I'm not really feeling it yet either. I despised Twilight Princess on the Wii, because the motion controls on the sword were 100% not needed and completely fucking dumb.

I'm alright with SS using them because the core sword combat is actually based around it without it being slapped on, but I am NOT a fan of the gimmicky things they seem to be shoving into the game all over the place. Balance the wii remote to walk across a rope, fly the bird with the pointer, fly the beetle item with a pointer, etc. I can't stand that stuff, just let me use the damn control stick. Stuff like that seems like an early gen wii game that's trying to show off how you can input a motion in for another control scheme, and I hate it every single time.

I haven't seen all that much on the game and am going in pretty blind beyond that. I'm sure it'll be great, but I'm not feeling it yet.

I like the new look of her. Probably the best Zelda (design of the character) ever. The game, however, does not look interesting.

I see Nintendo putting out many videos and new information in the weeks ~3 leading up to release. They've done this for most of their games in the past years.

I'm really looking forward to watching someone else play it, as I have with all the 3D Zeldas. Other than Awakening (one of the best games I've ever played) and Minish Cap (just clicked with me) I find them fairly unbearable to play, but hugely enjoyable to watch.

I love Zelda games, but this one does not seem to be able to garner any hype at all. That Zelda WiiU demo didn't help things out either.

I think I used up all my rabid Zelda hype between that E3 2004 Twilight Princess teaser and its actual release at the end of 2006. I'm still looking forward to Skyward Sword, but I honestly haven't been able to muster up a ton of excitement. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I haven't seen anything in the preview stuff that's said to me "ho shit, check this out, yo, badass awesome pretty Zelda game coming your way!"

Twilight Princess had its amazing cinematic trailer music going for it. Wind Waker had its art style and Miyamoto's whole "I want Link's eyes to be very animated" thing. Skyward Sword has what...? 1:1 sword movement? I think Nintendo burned everyone with Twilight Princess being a Wii launch title and turning out to be nothing but waggling.

That said, I was one of those people who refused to get TP for the Wii and swears by the GCN version to heart (canonical version ftw), therefore I'm actually sort of looking forward to this as the new Zelda entry.

I think it'll be fun, and I think that Zelda and Link being schoolyard buddies is a neat change for once. I still want to find out what's up with the Faery queen being Link's buddy in the first promo art.

That was what got the hype train going for Spirit Tracks...but the problem is the story reveal was part of it (spirit tracks first few hours spoiler)
Zelda dies? Got to play
which they've done for Skyward sword in a less exciting way of (seriously, you're in this thread but on total blackout; must be crazy)
Zeldas kidnapped and there is some emo rival villain guy, not to mention another 3 hour tutorial, highschool drama

Some of those details may have been wrong. I'm kind of not paying attention to Skyward Sword. I don't enjoy off cam demos and am not going out of my way for official trailers. Then there is the gameplay. I'm owrried it'll be a horrible place of too easy if you played Wii Sports Resort but difficult if you didn't.

Probably the thing I'm most frustrated at is the sluggish release of info. At E3 we know something about a gold remote. This week release date is announced, no remote info. Do they seriously think we forgot about that?

I'm in the same boat.

Zelda is by far my favorite franchise...but I really am not excited for this.

To those of you saying that from what they've seen, it looks like the best Zelda ever?

Why do you say that?

The flying in the sky seems like it's just going to be a less interesting ocean from WW...if you could fly in Hyrule, or wherever, it would be cool. But that doesn't seem to be the case. You just drop into pockets and then you get a chunk of overworld below.

Maybe I'm wrong. But from the same three level demo they've been showing, it's just seemed so blah. The dungeon looks like any Zelda dungeon, the boss fight is very blah, only made worse with with all of the lengthy dialogue, and then there's the flying demo...which doesn't interest me.

After replaying OoT 3DS and remembering how perfect Zelda used to be, this really isn't exciting to me. So far it feels like a console blow up of the terrible Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks.

Speak for yourself, I have full confidence in this game. The maps we've soon look spectacularly designed and are akin to the older, denser Zelda's like Link's Awakening. Upgradeable items, great artstyle, overworld in the sky. I'm sure it's gonna surpass TP in every way imaginable and I'm also sure it's gonna be amongst, if not the best 3D Zelda there is.

This may anger Zelda fans, but I do think the franchise is pretty much in need of a redesign. Admittedly they do give each game a new gimmick, but it's pretty much still using the mould that OoT made back in 1998.

Don't do that again.

Real Talk: I'm actually more interested in Kirby Wii than I am about Skyward Sword. Maybe that says something about me, but I just can't seem to bring myself to..I don't know, get excited. Drown in the GOTY feeling so many people are experiencing.

Maybe when I get it, my opinion will change. Hopefully that's the case.

I agree.

Though I forgot about the upgradable weapons...that's cool.

I´m not fond of the art style, especially Link looks off to me. I haven´t watched much footage, though, so there might be even worse looking characters.

I don´t own a Wii, so it´s actually saving me money to not be hyped about a Wii-only Zelda, so I´m okay with this.

Incredible logic and fitting for a thread where the concept is "I don't look forward to this game, for no reason. Discuss".
