Anyone use their TV’s Smart apps?

I’ve had Smart TV’s in the house for years and never found the use of the apps.
I’ve always either used a game console or mainly the fire stick for streaming apps.
I just recently purchased a new 2019 Samsung for the living room and now I’m using the apps allll the time. It’s just, surprisingly so much faster than using my fire stick even. Also, Apple AirPlay is really convenient.

anyone else use their smart tv apps more often nowadays?

No I just use my PS4 Pro for Netflix/HBO/Hulu. Navigating the tv app with a remote feels clumsy on my tv

I do a lot of watching on my kindle and iPhone tho

Of course I do.

Netflix
Amazon
Hulu
YouTube
HBO
Kodi (for porn on my Sony)
Web browser (for porn on my Samsung)

depending on the tv there are ways to speed up the interface on older TVs. If it’s a Sony, you can go into developer menu and limit the amount of processes that run at once. I don’t know about other brands

I haven’t really tried, admittedly, but I do trend towards feeling that a separate device specifically created to handle loads like that, naturally makes for a better app experience than a device that is trying to be a TV and a media streamer at the same time.

Either way, controlling my TV power, volume, HDMI ports, etc., by far-field voice still has me loyal to buying separate devices.

Yes, I do. They’ve gotten better in the last couple of years. Plus I do tend to worry about my kids wearing out controllers or messing with my stuff on my PC or PS4.

A list of tv apps currently in use:
YouTube
Netflix
Disney Plus
Hallmark Movies
Amazon Prime

I did at first with my LG C7 but it seems the app support isn’t nearly as consistent on Smart TV’s. I got a Roku about a year ago and have been satisfied with that since.

So I got the 65Q70R.
It has voice commands and dedicated buttons for Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video.
One of the main reasons I keep using the apps in the tv is I can know for sure prime and Disney + are in 4K.
The stuff plugged in to the tv at the moment can’t do it.

LG OLEDs have a few good apps. The netflix and youtube app are great on it.

Yep, came to post this. It's great to easily be able to access 4K/HDR streaming content via the LG TV apps (using a B6 55" myself).

I have 2 TV's in my house. One upstairs in my room, a very old Toshiba flat screen that I exclusively use with PS4. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc. PS4 has all the apps I need. Firestick is useful too.

The other is downstairs in my living room, shared with the family, and it's a very new Sony Bravia, super smart features, great remote It's pretty smooth, but I don't use it as much. Searching for content is just so much easier with a gaming controller, even if the Netflix app is pretty much identical across all devices.

Disconnected my TV from the internet, fuck all those bullshit crappy apps and ads. A TV is just a screen for me to connect a box to, not a replacement sup-par box.

I use my C9 for Prime, Netflix, Disney + and Apple TV. The apps are top class and I’ll use them over and over vs my cable box or console.

I got a 4k Sony TV last year and I haven't put any apps on the Smart TV or connected it to the wifi. I just can't be bothered with the whole update nonsense on yet another device or the splitting of apps between the smart TV and the Apple TV. The only downside is I have run out of power sockets near my TV with the 6 plug power board full due to the TV, speaker, sub, Apple TV, cable box and Blu-Ray. I really wish apple would release a Apple TV Blu ray combo, that would be quite handy.

No.

Alexa integration with my RPi4 running Kodi is all I need.
"Alexa, play next episode of Rick and Morty."

Just replaced one of my TVs and got a “roku tv” obviously no longer need the actual roku I was using so gave it to my Dad. Noticed the same apps on the new tv with the same Eco system was much faster. Obviously new tech is typically better so makes a ton of sense.

best part was getting rid of one remote.
