AOC riles Dems by refusing to pay party dues, bankrolling colleagues' opponents

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has already topped the fundraising charts in her short time in Congress, but the liberal darling won’t donate a cent of her millions to Democrats' House campaign organization -- a position that has rankled some of her colleagues, Fox News has learned.

Instead, Ocasio-Cortez is building her own fundraising operation for fellow progressive candidates to bypass the official Democratic Party infrastructure. Already, she's actively funding primary challengers to oust certain Democratic colleagues.

“Sometimes the question comes: 'Do you want to be in a majority or do you want to be in the minority?'” Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., told Fox News, when asked about AOC's stance. “And do you want to be part of a team?"

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairwoman Cheri Bustos downplayed Ocasio-Cortez’s decision to shun dues and pointed to the record-breaking fundraising numbers the committee has notched without her.

“That's always up to individual members so I guess I don't think about it one way or another,” Bustos said when asked about Ocasio-Cortez's stance. “We’re raising record amounts of money from our members.”

The DCCC declined to comment further on the matter of Ocasio-Cortez and her dues.

Another Democrat was less diplomatic: “Deadbeat Cortez should pay her bills,” complained the Democratic source. “She’s always whining about people paying their fair share and here she is leaving her friends with the bill.”

Their gripe is that Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t given any money to the DCCC, the party arm with the sole job of electing Democrats to the House. Records obtained by Fox News show the New York Democrat has failed to pay any of her $250,000 in “dues” to the DCCC.

Her goose egg of a contribution is no accident. Ocasio-Cortez says she has beef with the DCCC and she'll withhold her money in protest of how the Democratic Party won't back insurgent progressive primary candidates, like herself, in the name of protecting incumbents.

“For me personally, I’m not paying D-trip dues,” said Ocasio-Cortez, using slang for the DCCC and citing a “myriad of reasons.”

“One, I don’t agree with the policy around blacklisting groups that help progressive candidates,” she said, referring to a DCCC effort to sideline vendors who assist challengers to members of Congress. “I think we need to evolve as a party and make room for that.”

This is awesome honestly. Good.

They are corrupt and actively work against progressive candidates. I sure as hell wouldn't pay them anything either. And she is not being selfish, she's setting up alternate funding for progressives.

I hope Cenk Uyger gets in Congress too and they start to really fuck with the establishment Dems.

I'm amazed that she isnt in a shark pool fight for her seat. While she may enjoy national notoriety o
In her NYC district her name ought to be mud for all the harm she has wroght upon them.

There's at least one moderate Democrat challenging her, Fernando Cabrera, and he didn't hold back. Some choice quotes from Politico:

"Only a Democrat is going to be able to defeat her, and it’s going to be a moderate Democrat. She’s a no-show in the district. She hasn’t brought about anything except division within the party."

"Socialism doesn’t work. I don’t want it for my children, for my grandchildren."

"It was staggering to me, we have somebody who literally dismantled the possibility of us having 25,000 jobs, and she has yet to bring any jobs into the district."

There are two other Democrats running against her, too. It'll be interesting to see if the progressives can hold onto their seats this year.

She is going to lose her seat by the fact the district is going to redistribute. She can run for re-election, but its not going to be the same district. Good luck Democrats on your civil war.

"Insurgents" should be able to beat incumbents without the backing of the establishment. Didn't she win handily with like $3 million compared to $20+ million of her opponent?

Good for her, the establishment isn't interested in serving, it's interested in holding onto power. Exactly the reason they're gonna do to her what they complain about her doing to them.

I never understood the appeal of AOC. She might be good with more experience under her belt but she doesn’t really know what she’s talking about most of the time.

Where is all that money she is giving people coming from? Is it some of that money that was mysteriously laundered through a shell PAC?

Regardless, her ass is grass, and Hillary Clinton and company are going to mow it. The establishment is not going to tolerate her splitting off the voters they need to beat Drumpf into an extremist bloc.

I never thought I could support anything AOC was doing but I can definitely support her stirring up the DNC civil war.

AOC has always been blunt about the fact that she despises the DNC. The justice Democrats entire modus operandi is to eliminate most Democrats currently in office and remove any moderate/blue dog Democrats in office.

You invited a wolf into the chicken coop. What the hell did they think was going to happen?

It will be interesting to see how the media plays this going forward. They cut to her take after the previous state of the union address almost immediately after it was over on CNN. Will she now get less time in the spotlight or will her social media status be worth chasing after? She probably gets more views on social media than CNN gets views minus airports.

This is all about the new vs the old ways and the old not wanting to make way to what is inevitably coming. They want to hold onto their money and their power and their lies and she (and all progressives) stands in the way of that.

So good for her. She continues fighting for what is right, and thanks to her (and others just like her) the party will be very different in due time. It will be a great day when those at the top are actually serving the people.

Damn the man. Power to the people.

Let them fight.

The only thing I will add is that it’s damn funny to see AOC endorse the candidate who sucked the democrat establishment’s cock after it rigged the game against him. Way to fight the establishment.

Good for her, it would be insanely stupid to give money to an organization that cheats, backstabs and smears progressives while at the same time using them to convince voters to vote for them. Bypassing these corrupt hypocritical fucks is the best strategy.

It is pretty usual for politicians to be arrogant, but AOC beats all records on this metric. It's all about her, her, her, her, her and her alone.

Since hardly anyone votes in the primaries she was able to squeak past the establishment candidate. In her district in the general the only thing that matters is the party next to her name. If you think the DNC that fucked Bernie Sanders in the ass in 2016 is going to roll over for AOC and her little band of Justice Democrats you underestimate them.

AOC is fighting for the new lies to replace the old lies. That’s the way I see it.

For as much as the right hates her, they don't realize she is a strong ally. She keeps up the split between centrist Democrats and the far-left "we need to get our way" Democrats. She could have had a good career on that side, but she is going to be blacklisted very soon.

That is why no one from her generation should be in politics.
