This call for Nintendo stepping up makes little sense. Shouldn't it be the call for someone to(like what happened)? Not specifically them?

Also as someone who visits the place regularly, Nintendo World could NEVER host a tournament of Apex's size unless you tell people to chill in Radio City Music Hall and that pizza place/chinese buffet up the block while pools are playing, lol.
Also as cool as Apex is I'm not sure Nintendo wants a crowd of people playing fighting games and streaming in a store. People go there to buy toys and stuff.

Isn't twitch located in CA?
Big corporation where only a small team are probably keeping eyes on this event vs smaller company that is probably expecting tons of viewers from the tournament and whose main line of business is the hardcore gaming community. Twitch never stops operating, NoA doesn't have to worry about night ops.

I'm not saying it's a massive screwup on their part or anything for them to not do anything, whether they could or not at this point. But it would have been extremely beneficial for them from a PR standpoint if they had been the ones that "saved the day" and not Twitch.

It would be that for anyone who stepped in though. At least to some notable and worthwhile extent.

Man, it seems like Team Spooky, Twitch, all these organizers are different camps but I will be damned if they don't pull together when shit goes down. Any more rants on how established TO's are A-holes seems to go right down the toilet, they are clearly working hard and if you think this is happening at no cost you are nuts. Even if Twitch/ Big N foot the bill, someone had to volunteer to get the ball rolling no doubt. Good on everyone holy shit.
There's drama but there's a lot of great people working together because they give a shit about this stuff.

What twitch is doing sounds amazing too. I figured a new venue of proper size was basically out of the question

Of course.

But there is still some disdain in the Melee (and PM, as you'd imagine) community about Nintendo's involvement with what was once a grassroots scene, it would have been a good way to get on their good side. Especially after the "mishap" where NoA only tweeted about Smash 4 at Evo and completely ignored Melee. I know that irked some people.

The one thing they had going for them was location. Northern NJ is loaded with venues of that size, to handle all the conventions that Manhattan doesn't have the space for.

It's good to see they're working hard to make this happen. Such an unfortunate series of events for the organizers but I'm glad to see they might be able to pull through.

Yeah, seriously.

I think Teams being dropped is okay to make sure all the games can happen.

I hope Nintendo sets up the Splatoon demo in the new location and they aren't concerned about future involvement.

Glad to see everything will work out, even if it's more confusing and takes longer to get started.

Who cares if that irked "some people"? Nintendo doesnt need to step in to save people, especially one that already have an irrational dislike for them.

Glad they were able to get help. However, it boggles my mind how some people expect Nintendo to step in and do something about this.

Yeah, cause it's causes them a lot of damage to get on the good side of people that have made them relevant in the Fighting Game press cycle for the last 2.5 years by playing a game of theirs over a dozen years old.

This logic is irrational.

Smash community for you
I don't think anyone in the community "expects" anything. Just looking for Nintendo to prove they have passion for the scene and aren't just opportunistic.

The scene has done more on their own then with Nintendo, this is fact. I think we just want to see Nintendo do something FOR the community. Splatoon and panels are neat, but that's for themselves more than for the scene.

However everyone has to give them props for the hardware they donated, but thats something anyone can do, it would be nice to see Nintendo get involved in a way that only Nintendo can.

It honestly doesn't seem like a big ask, but I could be wrong.

Also I'm only speaking for myself as I'm only involved the scene a little bit these days.

I also don't think it's that people "expected" Nintendo to help out. I think it's more that people are seeing an opportunity for Nintendo to take this situation and use it as an opportunity to ingratiate themselves to the Smash community. Everybody should be able to agree that would be awesome. But it didn't happen, and that could be simply because Nintendo's leadership out on the west coast wasn't even in the office at the time all this happened. Thankfully Twitch was around and able to step in and lend a hand (which is obviously a huge benefit to them as well as they were expecting tons of views over the course of the weekend from this event).

It'd be better to just assume the latter in the first place. Take whatever you can get from it, don't expect things, don't hold a grudge if/when it ends.

For those saying Nintendo missed an opportunity, realize that those at the event are probably:

A. Not authorized to approve spending.
B. Don't have the means to get approval in such a short time span.
Pretty much.

I'm sure JC or Bill would probably love to help, but they'd have to go through the bureaucracy, all the way to the decision makers in Japan. NoA doesn't seem to be a company that can just quickly do whatever it wants/should.

Someone could've been killed because of their negligence. Taking money for the event while pretending nothing was wrong is bullshit.

This is just a catastrophe. Wonder what the TOs are gonna do now.
Good that they're being punished for this. I have no tolerance for building owners and managers neglecting maintenance of their properties. The victims when something goes wrong are always other people.

Damn, they were really unlucky; this is the first time I'm watching APEX (Hungrybox FTW), glad they're finding a solution.

I understand the sentiment of those saying "Nintendo should do something for the community", however think about it, most of the times the community's like "We built this scene ourselves, we don't need Nintendo" (heard that phrase so many times).

This was my reasoning as well. They're still doing an announcement right?

Most likely, yes.

New schedule is supposed to be released tonight at some point. I doubt the announcement will suddenly be missing, even if the relative timing has to change.

Read part of this woman's Review lol this is when it collapsed.

the front desk calls to let us know we can't use the sink in our bathroom because they have to do some immediate plumbing. Fine, we were heading out anyway. We grab some things to put away in the car before heading to the train station, but when we go outside, we find police tape wrapped around all the garage stairwells and a police car parked outside. They inform us, not the hotel, that the garage has collapsed and no one is allowed inside! No one was seriously hurt, thank goodness. But seeing as there was no parking allowed in the parking lot and we were left with no alternative but to park on the top level

"Git to da choppah!" the organizers cried as the APEX building sunk into a mile-deep crater.

As the helicopter flew into the sunset, the gamers blinked back tears as they watched the booth for F-Zero WiiU sink into the earth.

"We don't have backup code," said Iwata, who was wearing a sideways baseball cap and was attending the convention for some reason. "Guess we'll have to cancel."
lmao

I imagined this whole scenario in gif form while I was reading it.
