As far as Battle Royale's go, the ping, drop leader, and revive mechanics are all really nice touches that I'm happy to see. It's just a massive shame it doesn't utilize the movement system that makes Titanfall so unique. That would've really made this game stand out more imo.

You can only play in squads? not 1 vs all?
Apparently they're gonna add those later. I think it was mentioned in one of the interviews they had today.

Played maybe 10 games then all of a sudden 3 games in a row I got DC'd as soon as I spotted an enemy and closed in on them, probably got DC'd within 50 metres or so.
3 games in a row I found to be odd so I tried a different online game and has no issues for a solid 20 minutes so I have no idea what is going on.
Worked fine around my team mates and everything and seems to play ok otherwise for me.

I would've preferred the wall running from TF to add a bit more uniqueness to the game, but perhaps they'll change their decision and bring it in someday. Probably won't keep playing it because not into BR, but this one felt better than the others I've tried.

Call me impressed. Played a few rounds and it felt good. There’s depth here with the specialists abilities too. The cartoony stuff is not usually my cup of tea, but as a whole package it can be forgiven. Highly polished BR game, it’s going to be huge.

played a few matches and i can simply say that Battle Royale is one of the most cancerous things to ever happen to gaming, i would put it next to shit like Online pass and Early access

Battle Royale genre went from zero to massively oversaturated in about a year.

isn't that underwhelming for a f2p titanfall "sequel" game? lets see the numbers after a month..

edit: just checked Twitch and it's the lead game there with 147k maybe just maybe this will be a massive success.

Twitch is a metric of viewers not players and the most bullshit stat ever. The player counts matter and ... since the game is great, I’d say we have a new player in town.

I didn’t expect anthem to save ea but this can

Just played a game, and its pretty fun, really surprising!

One thing though, maybe I have something wrong with my settings, but the game looks like ass, I have it maxed out, yet it looks like its 720p upscalled, with a ton of jaggies, anyone having the same issue?

Relax, my dudes. Respawn isnt that big. I hope that when they finish the star wars game, they can start with Titanfall 3 for next gen hardware. Patience!

(Still not played)

This is literally a business decision game.

F2P based on existing engine and modified assets. Small team, and upkeep. Passive income.

If anything, this is fantastic news for what Titanfall 3 may hold.

How does this compare to COD Black Out mode?

It's exactly the same. Except this game has 3 player squads, and you drop as a team with the option to separate, and all the characters each have three specific individual abilities, and there are unlockable characters with new abilities, and you can respawn teammates after their death, and there's a ping system that allows you to communicate with other players who aren't using voice chat, which means you can mark enemies, or specific gear, or weapons, or locations, and you can ride vertical zip cords attached to balloons to get back into the air, and there's no fall damage, and the weapons are different, and attachments are detached and reattached automatically when you pickup a new weapon, and the map is different, and probably lots of other little things that I'm forgetting.

But other than that, they're pretty much the same exact game.

Couple of things.

  • The game is actually really good. It plays buttery smooth and is very responsive.
  • 60 fps is nice
  • Did suffer from a fair amount of rubber banding, so the servers are not perfect.
  • I'm old and I can't keep up with all you young folk. Very fast and twitch game.
  • Not impressed with hero skins. They is not enough variety.

I agree, I am impressed with the gameplay and the overall pace and feel of the game. There seems to be a lack of characters though and I find my team picks the same few people all the time.

I have quite a few kills after 4 or 5 games, it suits my play style a lot more and we got 2nd place in my last match with no microphone and all randoms...

I hope they add more characters and imaginative skins.

Still, a bit miffed there are no Titans but I understand that it could unbalance the game easily.

I like this character's powers, but I'm really not a fan of that hat and the mask. Looks a bit silly. Let's see what other options there are.

Oh. Literally every option has that same stupid hat.

Well the healing girl is cool, but I really don't like her hair style. I'm there there's another option...

Well, darn.

THIS is how you're trying to sell cosmetics?

The art style of this game is not my cup of tea at all but the gameplay seems quite nice so far (5 matches in).

There are a lot of "battle royale" quality of life functions that have been taken care of with some clear and clean design (such as the ping system and inventory UX, colors etc.) is good.

I will keep playing, it's nice to be unlocking things every match even though I think some of them look crap.

I'll have to give this a go and see how I feel about it. I'm currently replaying Titanfall 2 through Origin Premiere and damn Respawn just freaking nailed the gameplay.
Not to mention, it's also one of the best single player campaigns I've played since the original Half Life 2.

My 18 year old son did give this a play yesterday right when it dropped. He said right away his squad had a "toxic loudmouth" that bitched and complained about every single move his teammates made(my son finally told him to relax, it's a new game for everyone and he dropped out).

His views: didn't like the forced team ups with squads. Didn't like you don't always get to pick the character you want, already had a taste of toxic mouth from a "squad member".

That said, he did say it was pretty fun to play. I'll give it a shot later.

No Titans, no wallrunning, no double jump. Why is it set in the Titanfall universe at all?

It seems that Respawn has been trying to distance themselves from Titanfall. In TF2 they tried to slow it down and simplified the maps with three-lane COD style maps. Now they removed the features that made it unique.

I think the first Titanfall was just a fluke after all. The developers themselves don't understand what made it fun.

Played it for one round, then quit unimpressed. Picked it up again and put like two hours in, won two rounds. Really tight gameplay with QOL features that put it ahead of BO4 and the others. Really has gone out of its way to differentiate itself, will definitely be coming back to it for some time. Give it another go if you dropped it, having a lot of fun with it now.

Thanks for your hot-take Debbie but not every person in the TF universe is a pilot, pilots are the ones that can wall run and have mechs; this isn't about them.

That makes as much sense as creating a game called "Covenant Legends" set in the Halo Universe and only allow you to play as a Grunt.

"Hey, not everyone can be an Elite, ok?"

It was under full NDA until yesterday. Over a million unique players for a game that was announced yesterday. It isn't a sequel. It is in the same universe. Barring server issues and/or rampant unaddressed cheating the game should be massive.

Anyone else hoping to find Titan husks on the map. Would be a cool nod to TF to have a map on an old war field with blasted out titans.

Anyone has any info to why there was no advertisment for the game since it is the first BR game from EA

I think it's just that a "surprise! It's out already" announcement was likely to be more effective than the conventional unveiling months in advance. A F2P battle royale game lives or dies based on word of mouth, and making people wait could actually kill its buzz.

do you have an old cpu? i'm running at a pretty stable 3440x1440 @ 120 fps on a 7700k and 1080ti. most things are medium

i7 8700k
16gb ddr4
gtx 1080
evo 970

Are you using dynamic resolution scaling? If I turn that on, I can set a target fps of 80-100 fps but things get blurry

I get better framerates in Blops4 and even PUBG... I dont think I saw it ever go below 120fps in Titanfall2 with everything maxed out.

The character design sucks. Just trash. Yeah, it's like Titanfall without the awesome Titans, pilots and wall running.

The art style is OK, but the graphics are pretty bad with some horrid texture work. The FPS combat is decent and I'm having some fun with it. Some cool ideas. I don't see it having crazy legs, but we'll see. Not super impressed.

no wall running ?? it's an essential part of what made Titanfall's gameplay a masterpiece
If that game was a masterpiece than it had sold better, because if that series had success people would have a sequel, but because the sales were really low what do you expect to happen, its just business.

I have enjoyed every moment with this game. I'm excited to jump back in tonight. We did not run into any connectivity issues running a 2-person (with rando) or 3-person squad surprisingly. There is still much to be desired, but hopefully they will come with the battle pass next month.
