I feel like they could have just launched these without a show like they do Macbook refreshes every now and then. Nothing shown today was worth any more than a press release.

Really tempted by the new iPad. As someone with very little interest in paying $800 or so for an iPad, it’s really awesome to see the Pro features trickling down to the old $600 price (which I am super glad exists again).

I hope it stays like this, with the Pro being for ultra-premium stuff, and the Airs having most, or enough of the features.

Apple One looks like a great deal. Would be all over that if I wasn’t already getting Apple Music for free through Verizon.

Type C. Woohoo.Soooo... When will we be able to simply drag n drop content from our PC to iPhone? Oh, never? Ok. Android it is.

[New processors looked neat, guy responsible 4 them sounded genuinely excited]

Hmm. Basically since they were comparing it to the last iPad Air's A12 the whole time, which the A13 was already notably faster than, if you work backwards it looks like about a 16% CPU gain and 8% GPU gain vs the A13, which would be one of our smaller generational upgrades. Particularly the GPU, usually with smaller nodes and more transistors to throw at them, those are easier to scale in performance.

I wonder if the A14 was aimed more at lowering performance with both 5G and ProMotion having been expected, even if the latter didn't make it in. Makes it more of a shame it didn't make it if so. Because otherwise this is the smallest performance jump generation since they started making their own chips, which is odd with all the extra density 5nm offers.

I'm just really glad that they're ditching the old design which is flawed to hell. My iPad Air 3 is 14 month old and has developed the same "white spot" (always above the home button - lots of people online complain about it) issues my old iPad Pro from 2017 has.

I guess I'll bet getting the new Air then and give my old iPad away. Took Apple way too long to give us stereo speakers in landscape on the cheaper iPads.

Ya it is?

My bad I was sure I had read the iPad Air 2 was losing support. Great news is still supported!

Ya'll would rather have an ipad than a macbook with the same processor and a similar price point? I understand different strokes for different folks.. but one is expected soon.

I didn’t watch the event, so the new iPad Air is the premium one compared to the regular iPad, but not the Pro? When are preorders open? I’m in the market for an iPad that can use the pencil.

I remember in the late 90ies and 2000s when there was a freaky mindbending great new design almost every year coming from Apple instead of little bullshit in the same chrome cases year for year.

I miss Steve Jobs.

It sits between them, iPad Pro screen design but no ProMotion, two speakers instead of four, not using a X/Z chip but for now should be a bit faster than the Pro on single threaded performance. I think preorders start in October?

They sure featured this date very close up

🤔

I still marvel at the "sunflower" iMac. Such a fucking cool design. Or the G4 Cube, which I still consider one of the sexiest computers ever made.

The whole app library/pages setup was not discoverable at all I thought. You have to enable it in settings, then go to edit the homescreen, and THEN the jumbo page indicator is a pressable action to set up your pages. Feel like most people are never going to find that and most iOS home screens will look the same as always, which could be part of the point I guess.
