Are We in Peak PS360 Nostalgia?

I hardly get nostalgia but the type of nostalgia I have currently is that I want to play a game exactly like the Mass Effect trilogy. A high budget Science Fiction WRPG where I can explore planets and cities with a great gameplay battle system

Lmao, I remember that same Gen people were like "PS3 got no Gaemz" or "I hate this Gen" or "there is no color". There were FPS and gritty TPS war shooters everywhere. But it was the best gen honestly outside of the PS2 era.

I've been kind of playing a lot of games from that generation all along but especially lately with my PC that can run rpcs3 really well, and with more ports of games from that generation getting fan patches to keep them playable on Steam and GOG. I'm playing Far Cry 3 and Eternal Sonata right now, I was playing MLB the Show 10 for a while, Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, revisiting Demon's Souls and Final Fantasy XIII-2... So many good games. It also overlaps with the Nintendo DS which was amazing too.

Well that era was banger after banger.

Maybe not like the PS2/GC/Xbox era, but you cant say that there were no games or something to do and have fun.

Speaking of fun: that gen still had the DNA of 'Make a game fun, that way people will buy it'. Today we have corpos making plans and using techniques to make people not only play, but to spent more money.

Just as some examples of how shitty things are:

- We have trailers or 'sneak peaks' of content that will arrive 1 month after launch... before we get the game (Monster Hunter Wilds, for example).
- Games have become as straight forward and simple in order to keep players engage so they spend more money
- Cash shop again, the death of visual consistency

There were a lot of real bad games back then too, but yeah what PeteBull PeteBull said. Lots of exclusives and just waaay more new games coming out in general. It's insane how few games have actually released on ps5 and xbox series whatsit compared to how many games came out back then, and yet you're paying way more for these modern consoles lol.

My hope is that even though these shortages and high prices suck, that they'll have the side-effect of a resurgence in portable games, which are possible to make waaay faster and with way less risk than modern AAA games. I think that'd be awesome.

Rockstars output that gen was amazing, Table Tennis, Bully, GTA IV + 2 single player expansions, Midnight Club, LA Noir, Max Pane 3, Red Dead Redemption + expansion, GTA V. Some care an effort put into the packaging too.
