An artist working for China-based company Changyou.com says he worked on a project called "Final Fantasy 15 Mobile" in 2015. As far as I know, this is the first time Changyou has been associated with FFXV. (Although I have found résumé listings for several officially unnanounced outsourced studios who have been working on FFXV like PhotonArts and Marza Animation Planet.)

The artist said he worked as a background specialist on the project between April and May 2015. He also lists it as a "test" so it may have been a prototype or alpha type project.

Square Enix had a job listing for an online game planner related to FFXV in late 2014.

My first thought is companion app? Would lend itself to a kind of road-map style second screen. As long as it works better than the MGSV one, could never even get that fucker to connect.

I definitely believe that rumor ("The Kingsglaive"). There's a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to it, in my humble opinion.

Yet another résumé mentions a mobile title for FFXV.... this time, an artist at XPEC. (XPEC has already been announced as a co-developer for the main game.)

Probably a companion app that acts like Prompto's phone: view photos that he's taken (didn't Tabata say they were working on a way of viewing those photos recently?), a "GPS" system for the map, etc.

No way is this a companion app. It's a spinoff mobile game.

Mobile is too big in Japan to ignore and require users to own the full game.
