ASUS ROG Z13 64 GB is discounted in Best Buy

This is a very niche device and basically only for our diehard portable aficionados with money to spare. Even with the $400 discount, it's ridiculously expensive but this thing blows any current portable out of the water. It's a good look at how powerful future portables can be. For reference I'm playing MH Wilds with 80+ FPS at 1600p medium settings with FSR. This is an integrated graphics card going up against a game whose performance most people are complaining about.

But why not just get a laptop? Again it has a very specific niche. It's not for everyone. I'm out of town multiple times a year, in total about 3 out of every 12 months, and this lets me bring a single device instead of carrying a gaming laptop, Kindle, and a Steam Deck. Yeah, it's nowhere near as powerful as my laptop with a 4090, it's nowhere as light as my Kindle, and nowhere as portable as the Deck but its use case overlaps with all 3.

Also terrible battery life since it can run at full power even on battery unlike laptops which throttle if unplugged.

I was looking into the Asus Rog z13, but at that asking price, even with said discount, is a no from me dawg.

I was also looking into the MinisForum v3. I'm holding off for now, hoping MinisForum will come out with an updated version with some current day specs.

I was actually very interested in the Minisforum V3. I almost bought a V3 when I saw a refurbished for really cheap but I heard that Minisforum basically just dropped support for it out of nowhere and backed away. ASUS has at least been doing the Z13 line for years now and this version has been out for a few months with little complaints from owners. Well, ASUS Armoury Crate is terrible and actually broke the RGB lighting but thankfully G-Helper exists so I just uninstalled ASUS bloatware and just did stock Windows with G-Helper.

I can see the use case, but personally I would rather get a 14" MacBook Pro (M4 Pro chip or wait for M5 Pro) or an iPad Pro with a keyboard or a decent Android tablet like S11 series.

MacBooks (Pro with M4/M5 Pro) are getting better with gaming side (with crossover) and for $2K you can get a respectable config on sale.

Same thing with M5 iPad Pro 13 w/keyboard (again, on sale) or S11 Ultra with a keyboard.

Thanks for sharing that info!
