Atelier Ryza Has Shipped Over 420,000 Units; Persona 5 Scramble Western Release Possibly Hinted by Koei Tecmo

Today Koei Tecmo announced its financial results for the fiscal year ended on March 31, 2020.

As you can see in the charts below, sales and operating income have both increased sizably year-on-year.

The Entertainmnet segment (which includes games) of the business is the only one which improved year-on-year, serving as a driver for the whole company’s results.

We learn that Romance of the Three Kingdoms 14 has shipped 260,000 units worldwide as of March 31.

Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate has passed 250,000 units shipped.

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout scored big, shipping 420,000 units and setting a new record for the Atelier series. It was at 350,000 units as of December 31, 2019.

No shipment figures were provided for Nioh 2, but the documents mention that it’s performing well and it was critically acclaimed by overseas press. The company expects sales to continue in the current fiscal year.

We do learn that the original Nioh shipped over 580,000 units between April 2019 and March 2020, helping pass the 3,000,000 unts overall milestone (which was announced in February).

Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers (which was developed by Koei Tecmo in collaboration with Atlus) also had no shipment figures, but we learn that it was received well in Japan. Most interestingly, the presentation slides reveal that an overseas release is planned.

The game is coming to Asia, but normally the term “kaigai” is used in this kind of report to indicate the western market. Up until now, Atlus has been quiet about localization plans for the game.

People joke that the game sold so well because of "oh thick thighs sell" yet they don't give enough credit to the game's massive graphical upgrade when compared to previous Atelier games. I hope this helps Koei realize that sometimes they need to put their hands deep in their pockets and invest the money needed in order to take the next step.

Also the game I really fun to play, this was my first Atelier game but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the game.

It's still in my backlog of shame . I wanted to first beat a few other Atelier games i have in my backlog and then move on to this one in order to understand and appreciate the diferrences and improvements even more but i got sidetracked by other games. :/
