Clean faces mod.

I'm a bit sad that it seems like Doi has redrawn the characters. I'm going to miss Kaneko.

I'm also hoping for no demon co-op. But maybe I'm hoping for too much there.
I can live with the new artwork (as opposed to RH) its just Jimenez who looks really odd

Cool. Demon Co-Op was always a very weak replacement for Press Turn which made the original one of my least favorite games in the series, so I'm hoping to see a complete overhaul or completely different battle system. Really excited, this has potential to really improve the game outside of the great dungeons.

Apparently it's been 'completely refined', as players thought Eridanus was too easy.

I wanted to play Strange Journey for a long time but I'm not touching my 3DS in 2018/9, sorry.

Was expecting a remake from one of the older games since SJ is still playable on a 3DS but I'm okay with this, even if that means my DS copy of Strange Journey will forever remain unplayed.

I like that new owl demon.

Original Strange Journey had around 308 demons. The new one is announced to have more than 350. I guess many new demons will be just old Kaneko art in spite of the announcement about Doi doing the new demon designs?

Probably just stealing all the art from SMT4.

So did Atlus and Kaneko have a falling out or what? It's been a few years since he worked on a SMT game. Doi's art is fine and all, just curious.

Strange journey was my favourite smt game and i put it above Nocturne and 4 in terms of atmosphere and darkness.

He is still an Atlus employee. So he is getting paid without doing much. When he does contract illustrations Atlus is still credited along with his name. He probably just enjoys having a senior supervisory role leaving the design work to a new generation.

What? He worked on IV and Apocalypse.
He was just a consultant and had the story idea, he hasn't done new art since SJ.

I'd be a little insulted if my art kept getting redrawn, but that's just me.

Oh, that makes more sense. Good to hear that he probably just moved up and not out.

Saving anywhere in the dungeon. That's the kind of new feature I can get behind (and a feature others don't like).

So is Etrian Odyssey 3 the only DS game without a port/remake now?

I'm actually super hyped for this if only because Strange Journey is amazing. I wonder if it's going to be done in the EO4 engine.
Was Knights in the Nightmare Atlus?

If this game releases in 2017 in Japan,
this game will likely come over here to Europe in the end of 2018.
Looks interesting though, Always interested in the SMT games.

Fuck yes, I've heard so much good stuff about SJ but this gives me a good reason to make the effort to play it. Wish it was on Switch but 3DS is preferable to the original DS.

ENHANCE PORT ALL THE THINGS

How about you enhance port Noora and the Time Studio, so maybe it'll have a shot at being localized this time.

I don't think an EU release is necessarily guaranteed for any of them. SMTIV: Apocalypse came out very late here to little fanfare, with so few copies made available by Deep Silver that it felt barely more than lip-service and went out of print within a month (although it's been reprinted since). The odds of them being enthusiastic about any of these in late 2018 seem pretty slim to me. Bloody region lock.

Niiice! I never played SJ, but I've heard it's really good, so this'll be perfect.

So is this supposed to be a port? Or a sequel? Or a new Strange Journey game? I'm lost already.

I expected a SMT 1 remake with the SMT IV engine, but I'm OK with this. What the hell, I'm hyped! And a female protagonist is also welcomed, if she's the protagonist.

This E3 and TGS will be quite interesting from both Atlus and Nintendo.

Well, it's sad that the SMT games don't have a huge appeal here in Europe.
I guess that is because of the topics of the games.
At least I hope Deep Silver will localize it in English at least, even make it available on the eShop and I would be fine with it.
It was weird anyway that SMT 4 was eShop only and SMT:A was made available in retail.

SJ is awesome. I never beat the end boss but the rest of it is great, the atmosphere feels desperate in places (mainly due to the team having few resources to call on) and it feels fresher for not being in Tokyo to me.

Literally just started playing SJ the other day. I guess I'll wait for this since I haven't gotten that far into it and the revamped battle system sounds enticing. I'm not really feeling the whole demon coop system, I hope they just make it press turn in the remake. Also I've heard horror stories about some of the later dungeons so I'll rather wait for a version with the ability to save anywhere lol.

Enhanced port with one new route (featuring that new character as the key npc).

I agree with your points here, but I'm not sure it's the subject matter that holds back SMT here as opposed to (like lots of Atlus games) being a star-heavy, reasonably difficult niche JRPG on a portable.

Edit: I mean 'holds it back from mass appeal here' (that I understand isnt their primary concern) as opposed to 'holds them back from being great games!' :D
