ATLUS says exciting news is coming to PC Gaming Show, Persona 4 Golden rumored to launch on Steam later this week

I hear Persona is pretty good. I've played Tokyo Mirage Sessions for the Wii U, it plays similarly, right?
Tokyo Mirage has better gameplay and build mechanics in my opinion. Persona 4 is just about hitting weak points again and again, then launch the team attack. Also dungeon design (randomly generated) is quite poor. Otherwise the story and narration are well done, even if everything drags for too long.

My P4G version stopped working after 47 hours on Vita so I never finished it. I'm getting an error every time I start it. Maybe I'll replay it on PC with cheats to make it go faster.

That’s great and all but how about Atlus start focusing on their next games? Project Re: fantasy and SMT V?
And how about you announce Persona 6 already?! It took 8 years for Persona 5 to happen. Are we going to wait for another 4 years for Persona 6?
One thing I hate with Atlus and SE.

This is from a small PC team of Sega Europe. Nothing to do with the development of Atlus games in Japan. They were probably not even aware this was coming out.

I cannot be more excited. One of the greatest RPGs of all time and yet you only can play it on PSTV or Vita, both dead systems impossible to find anywhere without shelling out a fortune.

P4 Golden in 4k/60fps on PC with mod support would be a dream come true.

Sega has precedent for using Denuvo until the first round of sales is done, then they remove it - like with the Yakuza games. It's not ideal but I'm willing to power through it.

Cool I'll wait for Denuvo to disappear then.

You know they're only releasing P4G on PC because they're not making any money off it anymore right? Same with Catherine Classic, I'm so sick Atlus treating PC gaming as second fiddle, by releasing games 8 years old or older. It's going to take another 8 years for P5R to come to PC, nevermind P6 or any new ip...

That would definitely fit the pattern of making absolutely sure sales die off before releasing a new version. On the other hand they also typically add content.

Is this a game that would be better off played on a big screen than a handheld? I've had the game for years and never played it on my Vita. I think I don't have it in me for cheesy Japanese teenage settings, but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

A. Persona 4 Golden is the most lighthearted, goofy entry out of the three modern Persona games (P3/P4/P5). It is the most "anime" out of the three. Persona 5 Royal is probably more your speed as it's very down to earth, serious, and has none of that sort of stuff.

B. It doesn't really matter as the game is an older portable title. All we would get from a PC version is probably improved resolution and a few other PC settings. Do you want portability (Vita) or better graphics/fps (big screen)?

What are the chances of modding support?
Already done multiple playthroughs on the vita but if the steam version had mods, I'd be tempted to double dip.

Yes, when you hit the weakness you can get one more turn and if you knock all enemies down you can do all out attack.

Yes, in Persona 3-5 you are high school student so during the day you have to go school and during those times you can increase S.link (bonds) with your party members and other people. Increasing your bond will give extra EXP to demons with same arcana, for example: if you bond with the person with lover arcana then the Demon with lover arcana get extra EXP when fusing. You also have increase social stats....like you see blow.

No your party members only have one Persona, only the MC can change to different Persona/Demon.
Thank you for the comprehensive response! I now feel like I have a better understanding of the game.

Official mod support? Probably zero. Depending on which engine the game was built with though (I genuinely do not know), you will likely see mods like the usual nude stuff or model edits in general.

Please be true. Persona 4 is a top ten of all time game for me and I was just realizing my only current way to replay it is either buying an old ps2, buying a fucking vita (lol) or emulating it. And when i I first played it, it was the OG. Never even got to play the Golden additions!

Please please please be true.

I literally bought a Vita a couple months ago for $100 just to play P4G. I'd hardly call $100 a "fortune" especially considering the fact that you can hack them and download any Vita, PSP, or PSX Classic game for free. You can also hack it to use micro SD cards so you don't have to use the expensive proprietary memory cards. I use my hacked Vita more than my switch since I bought it, it's that good. I agree that PSTVs are still very expensive though.

My laptop runs ridiculously hot playing this. I switched it from Intel graphics to NVIDIA as the CPU was getting hot but the GPU was fine, but it's still suffering from the overheating issues. Anyone had any luck getting around that?

Are you letting the framerate run uncapped?

I was, I've just knocked it down to 30FPS as there are a couple of places saying that fixes the stuttering cut-scenes. Sadly that doesn't seem to work but we'll see if it does anything for the overheating issues.

I heard 25fps fixes the stuttering but I wouldn't want to play the game like that...
Maybe 50 or 75 if your moniter supports those refresh rates? Since it's a multiple of 25 it might be a better compromise.
Sorry don't have the game myself so I can't test these.

What brand laptop is it? If it's an Acer Nitro those things are notoriously hot.

it's a laptop...they got hot. that's what they do.

cap the framerate and if it's still hot then not much you can do.

my desktop PC cpu runs the game at ~40-50C and GPU at ~45C playing the game and that's with 5x140mm, 1x135mm fan, and 2x 80mm fans (assuming that's what they are on my GPU). so yeah a laptop is gonna struggle with basically no airflow and weak fans.

Thank god I saw this post. I own a couple of these I modded and stopped using about a year ago since I lost interest in the vita and I'm about to make a good chunk of cash on Ebay undercutting everyone else.

There's hot and there's hot. It's happy enough playing Witcher 3 and /kingdom Come Deliverance but P4 was killing it. Thankfuly throttling frames fixed it. Buggered around with power settings and that resolved the stuttering.

Quick google search shows those laptops can get hot under load. But since this is the only game causing and issue I guess it's no biggie. Personally, I would open it up and add some better thermal paste. But I've done that on every gaming laptop I've owned.

I actually sent back the first laptop as it was ridiculously hot and got a replacement that wasn't quite so thin and crispy. This one's fatter and has better airflow plus I had them put better thermal paste in - for the most part temperature hasn't been an issue. It gets warm but never uncomfortable. For whatever reason Persona was putting a huge load on the CPU (it was hitting some ridiculous temperatures). Limiting the frame rate fixed it - I assume that with no limit it just processes as fast a framerate as the CPU has enough grunt to do meaning it uses all the CPU power at once and heats up like a bastard.

In the grim annals of history, 2020 will be remembered as the year when Atlus finally went multi-platform with their games (most likely prompted by Sega).
