From their newsletter.

"While we can't get into specifics, we can say that Atlus will continue to support the Playstation 2 into 2008. While the next-gen platforms hold a great deal of promise and potential, much of which is already being explored at present, it is very often the case that viable platforms with large install bases are for the most part abandoned when the new generation of consoles appears. The Playstation 2, with its tremendous user base, is one of the first platforms in industry history to defy this trend. As long as developers continue to design great games for the system, Atlus will continue its support."

They also quoted an Atlus employee saying that the 2008 lineup is "awesome".

It's things like this that makes me wonder why disregard BC on the new console. The old one is far from dead.

this is surely a good move for them. particularly with next-gen rpgs in standard slow-to-start mode.

i also suspect that sony is providing some decent incentives for ps2 devs at this point, as one would imagine that they (sony) perceive a delayed hardware upgrade decision to work in their favor.

I might be wrong, but I have a feeling that PS2 is going to outlast PS1. While PS3 and 360 provide better visuals (usually), PS2 just doesn't have the extreme glitchiness of the PS1. So, the need for an upgrade isn't as apparent, and I think the "it's still okay" feel of the PS2 is going to make it a difficult death.

The PS2/Xbox 1/GC generation is the first generation I can go back to and not want to shoot my TV for the graphics displayed.

I would personally firebomb both atlus USA *and* Atlus Japan with my bare hands if this happened.

You're going to have to look somewhere else besides Atlus USA interviews for your PAL-land confirmation needs.

so hypothetically, would this thread be a good place to look for some early NA confirmations?

Nope! But I think we are announcing some new stuff fairly soon.

Still no guarantee they'll release Fes.

Maybe my memory is just fooling with me, but wasn't there an interview stating that they had no plans to localize/release FES in the US region?

atlus has a good relationship with success, banpresto and marvelous but i can't find anything released by them and not translated that could make it over here beside summon night and (but of course this is a pretty big stretch) wrestle angel where you manage an all-female wrestling team
oh also i discovered there is a shin megami tensei pinball... how awesome is that?

Why would Original Generations not be able to come out? The last two OG SRW games did.

If Atlus were to announce SRW: OGs + OG Gaiden in a deluxe box for NA....that would probably be the best thing ever

I absolutely think that the PS2 is going to last longer than the PS1 did once the PS2 hit. There are still a ton of great games that could come over here, PS3 isn't going to replace the PS2 nearly as quickly as the PS2 replaced the PS1, and if you're looking for an affordable game with a deep library of gaming options, absolutely nothing comes close to the PS2.

Wii doesn't replace the PS2, because it's a totally different experience. Xbox 360 doesn't replace it, because it's still too expensive for most, and requires more of an investment to get the most out of the system. (An Xbox 360 without Live, in my eyes, is useless.) The PS3 doesn't replace it, because it's way too expensive, and still has a year or two to go before having a truly compelling library of software. Plus, with those latter two consoles, the jump from PS2 to them, graphically, isn't going to be as large for most (non-HDTV-owning) gamers as it was from PS1 to PS2, thus less incentive to upgrade.
