Because his approval rating wasn't low enough already. My god he's an embarrassment to this country. What an arsehat.

A leading United States think tank has published a piece posing the question, "Is Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott the most incompetent leader of any industrialised democracy?" and answering, quite comprehensively, in the affirmative.

Published on the Council on Foreign Relations website before Mr Abbott survived a spill motion on Monday, the piece argues that he has proven so "shockingly incompetent" that he deserved to lose his job.

"Abbott has proven so incapable of clear policy thinking, so unwilling to consult with even his own ministers and advisers, and so poor at communicating that he has to go," wrote the CFR senior fellow Joshua Kurlantzick, a US specialist in south-east Asian politics.

Mr Kurlantzick argued that Mr Abbott's failure to consult with senior ministers about key issues had made it harder to pass critical legislation, and that Mr Abbott had what appeared to have "one of the worst senses of public relations of any prime minister in recent Australian history."

According to Mr Kurlantzick, Mr Abbott's "coarse rhetoric" had embarrassed Australia at major economic summits and that his decision to knight the "notoriously gaffe-prone and fusty Prince Philip" had gone down poorly even among his most conservative supporters.

See its all part of the Australian comedian and media's plans. Keep Abbott in power and the source for hilarious 1950's conversation and terribly outdated policies that will push Australia backwards is never-ending.

I really want to be surprised that he somehow arrived at the conclusion that that was a good line ... But I'm not. The reactions around him were great.

Um...wtf Australia how did this guy get elected?

Stupid people went with the "it can't possibly be any worse" option. Unfortunately for them, it can and it did. Ol' Tones is going to ensure the LNP get a long long walk in the political wilderness once their term is up.

He's definitely given Shaun Micallef enough material for a season or 3, that's for sure.

I also don't want to undersell how much he lied his fucking arse off to get into office though.
Absolutely. Only way the LNP won even with Labor in a shambles. If they'd told the truth about even 1/4 of the shit they were planning to implement it never would have happened.

LNP won't be in power for some time once their term is up, if they even make it that far.

Yup, another decade in opposition at both Federal and State levels. That's all the right wing of the LNP are good for.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Australia has a few "options", but ultimately it comes down to two: Liberal vs Labor. Labor had a six year run and fucked it up with internal bickering and leadership spills that mangled their public perception at the time beyond repair. The Liberal party took advantage of this in the last election by emphasising the oppositions internal instability and coupled this with a fear campaign riddled with lies about economy, asylum seekers, unemployment, education, and so on to give the impression the country was on the verge of collapse because of the former (or then current) government.

Australians in all their collective foolishness bought into it mostly, I feel, as a "well I'm not voting for the current mess", viewing the Liberals as the lesser of two evils and surely not possibly as bad as everyone says.

Only they are.

MAYBE Tony is actually secretly a political mastermind who has devised a perfect method to annihilate the Liberal Party from the inside out.
Or he's taking his revenge on the party for challenging him.
Or he's a massive wanker.

He also admitted to breaking a promise about defunding the ABC but then said basically that that promise should've been broken anyway

What's wrong with what he said? Was he exageratting about Australia's employment issues?

People now only associate the word with the Jewish holocaust from WWII.

Though the word in the context he used was accurate, people can't see it meaning anything else now, so using it for anything that isn't on a similar scale of death and destruction is seen as wrong.

You don't compare the systematic state-funded butchering of 11 million people to anything. Unless it's a systematic state-funded butchering of 11 million people.

This guy is a complete fuckwit. While Labour wasn't the greatest they were doing far better than this yobo. I wish the whole party was removed along with him from the Prime Minister position, its happened before :(.

Regular usage of holocaust does happen, but I usually see it in reference to other massacres or of the environment.

Usually not of jobs.
