Actually, I just saw that bar-cutscene again, and seeing Baldur run and scrape his sword on the ground as if he was some anime character is just :lol :lol :lol

I haven't seen anything that's been "absolutely laughable." Some cringe-worthy moments, sure. But that's par for the video game course.

Nice edit, by the way.

I didn't want to get drawn in to it. Clearly you don't think the stuff is laughable or you wouldn't be defending it, and clearly I'm not going to change my mind, on account of it being laughable.

Care to respond to comments on the good cutscene before attempting to flee to something everyone agrees looks like shit?

seeing people argue that too human's narrative prowess is equal to the theban plays is pretty amazing. and the too human trailer with the cyber-titty-bar and felt like it was dreamed up by a fourteen year old boy with a power fantasy.

Who the hell is arguing THAT?

It's clear that nobody can criticize this game without resorting to trademark GAF snark-hyperbole.

C'mon, you need to put forth a united front. The dialogue in a minute long cutscene is awkward when out of place. That needs to be your rallying cry. Going on about the E3 trailer is just distracting, as that has perfectly fine dialogue despite the silly fight scene.

Let's talk skill trees and min/maxing.

There appears to be one skill tree for each class, with three branches per tree, all leading to one "ultimate" talent.

Are you forced to pick and choose what talents you desire, or will you eventually just gain all talents once you hit the level cap? If you eventually gain all talents, then all one would have to do is hit the level cap to essentially hit "god mode". If the latter is true, then there would be no point in spec-ing your character and then the whole aspect of min/maxing would become kind of a joke.

Hopefully someone can provide some insight on this.

I still remember the thread someone made about Mass Effect dialogue from a 2 min trailer.

Deja Vu.

The people wondering about the air juggling, I think it may improve as you level up. Because right at the end, after he levels up, he juggles a guy with no problem. Maybe the more you level up, the longer you can "hover".

I don't think hovering will be the difficult part, as there are no button presses or stick movements required to do that. The difficult part comes from having enough enemies within range (and having enough "combo fuel") to move between them quickly.

It seems like people that are bagging on the game really don't know anything about the game itself.

So many doubters here. Now that they have gone past the point of complaining about the animations they decide to attack the writing. Good fucking thing Dyack switched from UE3 because I can only see the onslaught that would bring had the game showed massive texture pop-up in the scale of Mass Effect, or if it was rendered in a sub-HD resolution like CoD4, or lacked AA like the Orange Box. Also what I find sad is that besides a select list of classics, I haven't seen any game with good writing. Are people going to argue that games like Metal Gear Solid have good writing? Fuck no, the writing is horribly cheesy yet people still manage to love the story because of the quality of the events. Also, the JRPG's that people are so fond of here, have the worst fucking writing ever, yet people still praise the story in these games. Why do we have to see this double standard? Why I am not allowed to go into threads about games that people love and totally shit on them without being banned?

Sure, but you're going to suffer loading. So far every UE3 game has either liberal pop-in or liberal loading, and sometimes both.
i rather wait 5 more sec of loading than to see Saren's whole body textures pop in right in my face.

Yeah, Mass Effect falls into the sometimes both category.

Looks like SK has their engine sorted out. I saw a small, quick bit of pop-in in the recent videos, but it was nice and fast and, of course, no loading is going to be nice as well.

We get the point already. damn.

And the dialogue and acting are being handled by Kris Zimmerman who has done MGS/Kain/ED and many other great games.

Although I have to say, there better be no way you can find this type of dialog unacceptable and praise something like MGS

I think it looks great. Seeing just individual scenes of the combat alone here and there, videos here and there, etc seemed underwhelming at times. I don't know what is it though, but seeing it all working together has really done wonders for me. Instead of what I felt was likely to be just wandering from dungeon to dungeon without cutscenes fighting tons of enemies ala Dynasty Warriors I see various cuts from cameras, dynamic cutscenes and flashbacks, great enemy introductions, etc. After seeing that rare level 50 defender armor or w/e I don't think I'll be able to stop until I hit max level :lol.

Anyway great job to the team. I'm sure this game will sell really well and it looks like it'll be a ton of fun. I still would have liked to see some better animation work, but I think its now decent enough for me to be able to look past it and actually enjoy some of the better animations that are here and there. I'm sure it'll look a lot better on my tv in HD though in comparison to these small youtube like vids.

I thought the same exact thing. Seeing it all together presents the game in a much more positive way.

Edit: I think the writing in that scene is fine. It is meant to, IMO, play up on the tension between the sexual innuendo of that particular line (more for the rabble than anything else) and what the lines as a whole may connote on a larger scale about the characters and their complex relationships to one another.

What the fuck am I going to do with more then 100 000 weapons. I know this is meant for the hardcore crowd but I'm having doubts as to how confusing all the custumization options are going to get. I hope this doesn't get too deep.

Have you ever obtained every single item in an RPG before? I have, and it feels like part of you dies when there is nothing left to "achieve". 100,000 weapons is just Dyack's way of saying "The Lord Gives".

Ok, I am worried about the fact I cannot see these framerate drops. Can you please link me to one video with a framerate drop like that? I have yet to seen on, but a couple people have mentioned them. I am not saying that I do not believe them, is just that I have seen all the media for this game, over and over again in HD and SD, and haven't seen the so called framerate drops.

Gameplay is fine, but cutscenes have plenty of framerate drops.

Yup, probably due to the loading behind cutscenes. I don't see anything wrong with the gameplay framerate though.

Nice. I can't wait to dig in. We should get some Neogaf squads set up so we can choose complimentary classes and skills. I really, really hope they still have 4-player co-op integrated. I also hope we can save multiple playthroughs to one profile so I can have more than one build for multiplayer and single player experiences.

Why wouldn't you think they have 4 player co-op? Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't that been one of the main features of the game silicon knights has been pimping for a while now?

I saw a few other posts that said the same thing a couple days ago, I'm just curious as to why people are nervous about that.

I don't doubt that they'll get it in, but let's be honest, they've had quite the go of things with rebuilding the engine from scratch. I don't doubt SK's coding skills, and I know that they really wanted to get online co-op woven into the engine, but I haven't heard anything mentioned about it since it was announced on the blog and it seemed to be missing altogether from GDC. No mention makes me scared.

So, mainly my own fear of being disappointed. I'd still pick it up, no doubt, but the proposition of an epic RPG with three real players in tow is like some kind of dream come true.

I mean really? Robots taking over the human race? REALLY!? This coming from Dyack who was so bitter about his game coming under the magnifying glass...really? You know, if I had a game, which I don't, and the main plot was the...generic and over done...well I'd just keep quiet.

Wars between races (or relatable) have been done before numerous times, sure. But that is not the focus of the story in that the it's not the be all and end all of TH's plot. Far from it. Or so it seems.

Every great story has some form of cliché to it. Shadow of the Colossus, Panzer Dragoon Saga or Soul Reaver 2. If you use the cliché as simple device to set the mood or make easier to contextualize what you really want to show, then there is no problem in using a cliché once in a while.

Yeah really,at some point he asks when it's coming out and just when Dyack is about to start saying it,he interrupts him with a comment that changes the subject all together...of course Dyack jumped on that heh.

Still i think the game will be great,i would love to see and know more of the online portion though.

Anyone whose ever written anything knows that it's all a cliché. If you don't think it's been done before, you're wrong. The trick is not to fall prey to obvious or ham-fisted techniques and instead use known-quantities to your advantage by disguising them from the audience.

Hemingway's Old Man was older than he let on. Shakespeare did not ink life into Romeo and Juliet with his quill. Plato did not carve out his cave. Mythology is never based upon myths, but rather the human experience which is a shared phenomenon. It's not wonder that no matter the culture, not matter the era, the stories are all the same. This is not a new idea.

Oh, and I can count like a dozen clichés in that first paragraph, and you can be sure I've missed the greater share.
