Oh for crying out loud. Takahashi said Katamari was a comment on consumerism and Namco won't stop using his creation in a way he never intended it to be.
David Jenkins put it best in the GC review for Touch My Katamari:
The original game was a statement against unoriginal sequels and crass commercialism, and yet its now become exactly what Keita Takahashi was reacting against in the first place.
What is Namco Bandais fault though is continuing the series to the point where familiarity has turned not just to contempt but outright anger.
We hate what Namco Bandai has done to Katamari Damacy. The whole point of the original game on the PlayStation 2 was that it was completely unique: a one note joke that nevertheless proved how unusual and inventive video games could be in the hands of an inspired creator. Since the original was never released in Europe a single sequel made sense.
But for us to now be enduring the ninth (including three mobile iterations) regurgitation of the exact same game makes other yearly updated sequels look like paradigms of innovation by comparison.
Although creator Keita Takahashi was involved in the sequel We Love Katamari hes had nothing to do with any of the subsequent games in fact he long ago left Namco Bandai in disgust. As a result all the other games have been soulless reruns of the original, turning the absurdist humour into a painfully unfunny production line of non sequiturs.
Katamari Damacy was not released in the UK, but Electronic Arts published followup (and last game Takahashi was involved with in any tangible capacity) We Love Katamari here.

The title really make me think it would be a remaster of the first one too (with no loading times when the Katamari increase its height, like in Beautiful Katamari plz ?)
But not on Mobile, I hope.
By the way, I wonder what could Takahashi do with the franchise if he decide to get the IP again.
Possibilities are infinite, like... A produceral Katamari, it would be a sort of mix between the unlimited world of No Man's Sky (thinking to the universe map, also to Noby Noby Boy in fact) and the actual Katamari gameplay.
The only thing I'd want is the final try and get as big as possible level from We Heart Katamari with the benefit of quick loading times. (if they've done this in any of the sequel please tell me, I've only play this one).
As Toadthemushroom said, it's really time to lay this series to rest.
...and use the money to bring The iDOLM@STER to the west.

Basically, as said before, the final level of Beautiful Katamari (Xbox 360) is exactly like this. I didn't tried Katamari Forever, but this level could also be included in it.
EDIT : Yup, seems I'm right about Forever : https://youtu.be/AG0L81EgK_E

Hmmm... well maybe it's finally time to catchup with some of the games I missed last gen. Shame I missed out on the £40 PS3 just before Christmas. Though it does seem weird they hit max size in the PS3 version. The PS2 version always felt like it was impossible to ever not have anything left to pickup.
Here is hoping not a mobile game. Never played any of the Katamari games on mobile and not entirely sure I want to. But I'd be in for a new Katamari on consoles.

Wow, never read that. Every game after the first one felt unnecessary tbh. Still, it would be great to try it in VR, the gameplay is just too much fun.
Hoping to hear some good news about Wattam soon, it's been announced two years ago...

The last game I played that I enjoyed was Beautiful Katamari, but even that was being used by Bandai Namco to further their own goals - one stage had music specifically made to cross promote iDOLM@STER: Live For You.
Great song, but there's a time and place for everything, and it's sad to see what Bandai Namco have done with Takahashi's work. Maybe I'm just cynical or pragmatic, but it does disappoint me. Doesn't help that later entries just weren't very good (Touch My Katamari was particularly weak)

The 2nd game is brilliant in every way. Everything after that just felt like a port/mashup of the first two games, but as it ended up on more platforms I can't hate.

Saw this from Katamari's reddit, to all those who are hoping that this is, at the very least, a console port of some sort:
Edit: I examined the patent a bit, and I think it's safe to say this is not for a tablet/mobile game as Katamari Amore seems to be missing the 28 patent which is for video game machines, and this one seems to have it along with other console Katamari games. Yay! I mean I hope yay?
Beautiful Katamari last gen was utterly ruined because 90% of the content was DLC. I don't hold out any hope that things will be different this time around. Another series in the shitter, frankly.
