For those who want a little insight on how the industry works when it comes to review copies - normally the publisher sends you a google doc review form to fill out your metrics (whether its YouTube/Site/Twitch etc..) and what is your planned coverage and what you have covered in the past. Basically you fill out very simple "Fill in the blanks" questions and then the publisher will decide whether you will receive the code or not. Yes, believe it or not, not every entity is able to recieve copies, normally the excuse is "We have high demand, and may or may not be able to accommodate" but in reality it really translates to "Your audience is not big enough, sorry" but thankfully some publishers are nicer than others.

Filled out the Battlefield 2042 review form earlier today, which means we should hear soon when the embargo date is as the game gets near its beta and release.

We have previously reviewed Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, It Takes Two and PvZ: Battle for Neighborville in the past with publisher codes.

Can't you just pretend to be a big someone else, how would they verify that?
I am sure you'll get in some legal trouble if you are pretending to be IGN or GameSpot if you are caught by the competition for impersonation or plagurasim.

On top of that, they most likely check your website rankings and the email that you input if you had any previous history. Plus, you have to have physical proof of past coverage.

Plus to recieve the review form, you already needed to be in contact beforehand.

For big sites, publishers have no choice really but to play along as the coverage is too risky to give up.

For small fry sites, they probably look at your past threads and see if you dont like their games. If you love them you'll probably get a code. If not, they'll leave you out.

Although Rockstar sent my buddy a free copy of GTA way back for his tiny game site along with a box of swag which seemed standard as other people on the net got similar stuff. And it was a disc in the box too. No download code.

R* didnt seem to care if it was a small site and sent him free shit and all he did was email them. He never filled out a form or contract or any other dubious shit.

It's cool except that reviews for MP-only games never work - the media give the games 9s and 10s, and then when the game actually launches you get disconnected every second match, the party constantly breaks up, the mic doesn't work, and so on and so on. Looking at the hype BF2042 gets, I'll be surprised if you'll be able to just login onto the server during fist week.

When a dev gets a review copy are they digital or physical and will they get updates like regular copies would post launch?

Yup.

Or they play MP in some controlled environment against other game sites or the devs directly. Easy to say it all works.

It's like a food blogger testing a restaurant. Much better when the owner knows someone is coming and focuses staff to give great food and service, as opposed to a reviewer just randomly going in on a busy weekend and being treated like the other 200 people in a rushed environment.

Good question, when we got a copy of Forza Horizon 4 from Microsoft it was the whatever Ultimate edition they had (don't remember the exact name) they have that includes all the season passes/bells and whistles.

Publishers do this too butter you up and make you happy and copies are always digital since its instant download basically and you do not need to wait for physical.

No, I cannot sorry, you can post your channel tho and ill throw a follow.
It’s not much, more of a hobby in between school, work, and kids. So I’m guessing I would have had to be selected for the application?
