Battlefield 5 retail listing at World of Games (Swiss), "tactical shooter in WW1"

I know about the different aspects of WW1. So I've always thought it would be possible. Also, after looking at Verdun on Steam, I have no doubt about a Battlefield game being done succesfully. That said, I don't think it's really happening. Wish it would though.

Damn, I was hoping for an officer class that could go over the top with nothing but a stick and a whistle. That'll give old Fritz a damn good thrashing!

Of course, EA would make me unlock the stick by getting 50,000 teamkills in the Somme mission.

Ok, this one gave me a laugh.

There was a really big 4chan rumor that floated around before BF3 was announced about it featuring Dinosaurs?

There still isn't a game that nails humans vs dinosaurs. Ark is broken proof-of-concept game that is whatever. Great for youtubers, but not much polish or presentation or balance. And then you got Turok which is dead in the water.

I'd also take a Medieval Battlefield like Project Offset was supposed to be. 64 vs 64 castle sieges. Like Mount and Blade Warband but with a Mirrors Edge level of smoothness a deep combo system.

Or just make a Battlefield Splatoon game!

I play it everyday (PS4) and there are never a shortage of servers, I play on hardcore too.

Yeah, I still play it regularly. Also hardcore, I fucking hate the spotting system and the amount of shots it takes to kill people in regular.

I'm just hoping whatever setting it is there's no helicopters. WW2 would be my preference, particularly the eastern front.

Don't forget anti-tank rifles.

Basically, the only things missing are assault rifles (and there's only one real example from WWII) and rocket launchers (i think?). The former is not really necessary, the latter can be replaced with anti-tank guns or sticky bombs (grenade with glue).

I forgot, not all the rifles were bolt action. WW1 saw the first use of semi-automatic rifles. It pretty much almost had everything, except the stuff you mentioned.

Too bad a WWI game would not have M1 Garand... that clip-ejection "pling" sound is so satisfying.

I just can't see that setting being fun. Why not go WW2 if you want a setting like that since it opens up way more possibilities? I think WW1 would be too restrictive.

I'd die for a proper WWII Battlefield ... but turning back the clock a further two decades would make for a great opportunity to do some justice to a conflict which was of major importance yet is seldom depicted in modern media. And I would say Battlefield is just the series to make that attempt, since the Great War has pretty much all of the elements needed for a full-scale BF.

What scenarios do you get from WW1?

1. The Western front, with historic (and historically brutal) battles like Verdun (forest of dead trees and massive craters full of toxic water with floating dead bodies; one of the inspirations for Mordor), the Somme (first deployment of tanks ever, I believe), and Paschendaele (mud so bad that injured men were swallowed alive by it, screaming).

2. The Eastern Front between Russia, Germany, and Austria-Hungary in Poland and other areas, which was generally less of a war of attrition than the Western Front.

3. The amphibious landing of Australian and New Zealand troops in Gallipolie, which was countered by the Ottoman army under Mustafa Kemal ("I don't command you to fight, I command you to die!")

4. The battles in the Middle East between the British and the Ottomans (this included the capture of the city of Jerusalem), and the Arab uprising against the Ottomans fostered by P.T. Lawrence ("of Arabia")

5. The battles between black colonial armies in Subsaharan Africa.

6. The TWELVE battles of the Isonzo River between Italy and Austria-Hungary in the middle of the Alps (they are still finding frozen, perfectly-preserved soldiers to this day!)

7. The German siege of Belgian fortresses at the very beginning of the war.

8. The Battle of the Frontiers, in which the French (with some British support) stopped the Germans' advance right before they reached Paris. This is super early in the war, when you still had officers wearing white gloves and carrying swords, and there were many cavalry charges...that promptly got mowed down by machine guns.

9. Japanese invasions of German Pacific colonies.

10. Battles in the skies between flying aces and Zeppelin raids!

TONS of other stuff, and very, very underutilized in the realm of video games (or modern film, for that matter). It's probably because the Western front usually seemed so unchanging and futile, and there were not really any "bad guys" (well, lots of bad people and good people, but not one side that was obviously more in the right and one that was in the wrong), and the political situation was all so confusing, and there was no happy ending. But once you dig into it, there's a lot of interesting scenarios for a video games, but a lot of it is extremely brutal! It's been over ten years since WWII were popular, and WWI has never really been popular for video games, so I hope this rumor is true!

With a WW I setting they could probably even make a new version of Metro:

And while there doesn't seem to have been any big fights in Paris during WWI, they could maybe make up something like a black ops/spy mission which explains why there was a fight at this metro station. Something like a mix of Battlefield 3 and The Order 1886. A story mission in a crowded metro station could also be nice I guess, maybe as contrast to the real other battlefields of WWI.

How did it play? Its sitting on my wishlist but I don't play much online these days.

I'd love a BF game that was more focused on squads. Could work out, trying to take trench points in ways that cut your enemies off from supplies (less ammo, health on respawn?) rewarded for squads acting independantly and splitting targets rather than just ramming the next choke point. You'd have to designate gunners to secure no mans land and protect them from a sniper shot with a counter sniper. Gunner goes down and then a mad rush over no mans land.

Could be pretty fun!

I still don't believe there is any chance in hell that BF5 is anything other than modern times to near-distant future. What average "kid" who is playing BF4 or BO3 is going to go for a WWI game? No way investors or the publisher is letting this happen with every other game utilizing double jumps, wall runs and booster movement. Not a fucking chance. And if I'm wrong... Shit will tank.

Oh no... Nope nope nope...

OP Metro was the original sin in BF3... I hate that map so much (glad they redeemed later with the AK DLC, Tank maps was so OP to play)...

So yeah this happened yesterday

He deleted that tweet very fast because all the BF fans came at him.

He is the producer for Battalion 1944.

And now everyone thinks BF5 is set in WW2 lol.. But we had plenty of teasers from various insiders here that its Alternate History WW1.
