Battlefield V War Stories are a joke

So I've played the first act of BFV single player mode called War Stories (one available for EA Access subscribers) and it's a fuckin joke. Thought I'll get a gritty depiction of second WW, but instead Dice served me a Rambo-esqu one-man army bullshit. The main character and his wounded buddy exterminate Nazi footsoldiers and panzer division like it's some kind of power fantasy. I known it's just a video game, but c'mon, even Hollywood driven action heavy Call of Duty is more believable than that. Has some scale, other allied soldiers running besides you.

Isn't virtually every fps some "Rambo esque one man army bullshit"? Save for the likes of Operation Flashpoint, ArmA etc. BF/COD have been very arcadey for the last decade+

I bought the game but I'll never once touch the single player, as is tradition with Battlefield.

Welp, who would've guess that the biggest scale multiplayer FPS has such a one-man army single player. Won't touch that again, that's for sure.

LMFAO! YESSSSSSSS! Same.

I'm sure its good and I'm sure someone might enjoy it, but I just don't play that series for its SP mode. That just sounds like a waste of time lol

CoD campaigns >>>>>> BF campaigns, counting Bad Company 2.

(NOT counting, I assume?) I'd agree but no COD campaign this year so will be skipping it altogether for first time since COD 2 (the one before Modern Warfare!)

I will be buying BF V but I never touch the MP.

Nah, not my first BF. Played some of Battlefield 1 and it wasn't half as unbelievable.
BF1 was the most Arcady and casual BF title I've ever played. And I've played literally every BF title to date.

My BF3 battlelog which if you scroll down to Veteran Status I have a medal for having played every BF title prior to BF3. (To prove I have indeed played every bf titles released so far).

As a side note I suppose ; I never really liked the single player story of any BF title (except for Bad Company 1 & 2 of course, story was bleh but the characters were awesome). I just play it for the achievements.

Hold your horses partner. I enjoyed BO4 campaign with all that covert ops operations in a cyberpunk setting of the near dystopian future.

Battlefield campaigns are garbage. I played B4 the other week and boy was it bad. If you want to play good SP content, stick with CoD.

Only single player battlefield worth playing would bad company. Playing as a squad...no one man army and you get some great banter with your team.

I never touched bf1 single player and I'm never going to play bfv single player.

You can do it the stealth way, but on normal difficulty I just went all guns blazing.

Yeah, but CoD for instance makes an illusion that your fighting big battles with your fellow soldiers. In BFV the first act is literally two guys shredding Nazi tanks, soldiers and fighters.

BF1 was just as bad to be fair, escorting that tank through the fortified checkpoints. And I refuse to believe there is a worse mission than Friends in High Places (tell me it ain't so Skyn3t Skyn3t !).

Hopefully it picks up - I mean it's even called prologue and the other campaigns have actual names so might be more intimate? Will find out tomorrow when I can actually play anyway!

I think it's important to play games on different difficulties. Maybe try upping the difficulty?

I played Titanfall 2 on normal then the hardest... two VERY different experiences (both were truly awesome in different ways)

The fuck would you think you'd get a realistic depiction of WW2? It's been pretty clear from the get go that wasn't the case, and have you not ever played a Battlefield game before?

Guys I think you miss my point. It's fine that we slaughter countless enemies but not as a single soldier among the whole battalions of enemies. And that's what I've found in the first act of War Stories. In CoD, aprt of stealth/covert ops missions, you fell like your taking apart of some impressive battles, allies fight with you, it's a more plausible setting. While in BFV my buddy was wounded in a car, but still I've managed to kill like 200 Germans, destroy their 5+ fighters and dismantle a panzer division. CoD WWII made you feel like your there, inside of the hell called war. Mind you I only experienced the first act, but maybe the next ones are better. Maybe.

the first CoD changed that way back
In the classic CODs (COD1, United Offensive and COD2, since COD3 is pretty much a modern COD) allies were more a nuisance than anything else. They're there just to stay in the middle of the shootout and make you fail if you shoot them.

I cant recall any shooter where in a campaign you are not a one-man army.

CoD1
Cod2
CoD3
CoD MW
CoD WaW
CoD MW2
CoD Infinite Warfare
Battlefield 3
Battlefield 4
Operation Flashpoint
Left 4 Dead 1 & 2
Brother in Arms
Rainbow 6
etc
etc
etc

I always enjoy playing CoD campaigns in Veteran. It feels a lot more realistic. Any trying of Rambo-esque heroics will be met with instant death.

It's amazing how DICE literally regressed from knockoff Modern Warfare to somewhere around Medal of Honor Allied Assault when it comes to their campaigns. Sub CoD1 levels. How can you be so shit at making a decent campaign, I'm not asking for much, I'm fine with CoD2 quality.

Dice doesnt understand how to make good campaigns. Thats why of all shooters, it has the biggest reason to be mp only. Whether its bad story telling (bf3 and 4) or clunky af ai (battlefront 2) and battlefield hardline was shit all around (though dice mostly just had a hand in its development as it was actually being made by the dead space guys)

The only exception i can think of is bad company. But thats because it wasnt trying to be a novel, it was practically a self-aware parody and had plenty of cod-inspired moments but atleast it was fun.

Bad Company 1's campaign was really bad. The only thing it had going for it was the humorous story/characters, but mission design and production values were appaling, especially after MW1 blew everything away. BC2 was MW2 knockoff paying lipservice to BC1's tone. A better experience than 1, but also less memorabl.

If you could blend BC1's side story lets get the gold parody plot with the quality and design of BC2's mission, you'd have something fun and unique.

I don't usually buy these types of games for the singleplayer campaigns. Although I'll never tire of killing Nazis in games.

I appreciate you comment, OP. Confirms my suspicions. DICE should go the CoD route, or the classic Battlefield model, just focus on multiplayer and polish, please.

BF4s campaign was trying to be as much CoD like as it's possible. Wasn't as good by any means, but I enjoyed it. On vanilla Xbox One in 720p in 2013, but still :)

You'll like this video then:

That video is infuriating.

And you know what is the biggest point here ? That there were plenty of events to make women prominent that would give amazing story. Like Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko. Russian sniper with confirmed 300+ kills at age of just 26. Instead they wrote their own version of events that don't make sense.

Yeah, BF4 SP ain't great. All over the place and kinda unfinished towards the end. But standards are so low it's 3rd best after BF3 and BC2. BF4 got shit for it's SP, yet somehow the seeping garbageheap that was BF1's SP got praised initially. Literally the only thing good about BF1 is the intro hook where you switch between soldiers dying one after the other. People giving a pass to BF1 instead of shitting on it got us Battlerfront 2's and BF5's campaigns. Way to give awful feedback reviewers.
