Right. Everyone values games at different monetary values.

Some people, for example, would pay 500 dollars to play the new Metal Gear Solid. I'm not sure that would be a large crowd of people, but definitely some fans are dedicated enough that they would buy a 440 dollar system to play the game, then the game at 60 dollars, if that were the necessary requirement.

I think it's reasonable to assume that most people don't want to pay 360 dollars to play the new Bayonetta. You can be a big fan of the franchise and still not want to pay that much; I'm not sure how much a "big fan" has to be willing to pay, but surely someone willing to pay 150 dollars would qualify as a "big fan."

If some people see nothing else of interest on the Wii U system, then that is what this announcement is currently tantamount to; Bayonetta is the only game they want, so playing it has a barrier of entry of 360 dollars. However, I'm sure many, including Morma Pope, would be happy to buy the system if several other games they wanted appeared on the system -- then the cost of the system would no longer be placed exclusively on Bayonetta, and could be dispersed among the several games he wanted and planned to buy.
I just paid nearly $800 to own the Fate Zero anime series. Im pretty sure a sizeable amount of people will shell out to own the latest version of something they love. I ended up getting a Ps3 for the Uncharted series because I fully enjoyed the idea and when Uncharted 2 came out I knew I had to have it. When Forza came out on 360 I jumped in as well. These are the kinds of things that get people to take the plunge on a new system. People have long criticized nintendo for not doing this sort of thing, and now that they do there is this backlash. It seems to me that people are more loyal to a platform than the games they supposedly love. Its kind of...backwards.

The only issue with that is you don't need to keep the system. I did buy a PS3 for MGS4, and it cost me whatever they cost at the time, but I didn't have to keep the console, I could have sold it the second I finished the game.

You could buy a used WiiU and Bayo 2 on a Friday, sell it on Monday, and it can't realistically have cost you that much.
Keep in mind that this represents an additional cost. Two costs, in fact:

1) The difference between the initial sale price and resale price. If you buy it for 300 and sell it for 250, you're out 50 bucks.

2) The time spent selling it is also a cost. If I have to spend 2 hours total listing the system on Craig's List, finding a legitimate buyer I trust, then meeting him and making the transaction, those 2 hours stink and you'd probably have rather spent them doing something else. If you instead take the "easy" route and sell to Gamestop, you're going to lose a significantly larger chunk to resale value.

It's really nice to have zero interest in anything Bayonetta related and be able to enjoy this thread as a completely neutral observer.

I feel like Jane Goodall.

It was very, very strongly suggested to be canceled. Further, if it were not canceled, this would at least represent a very awkward financial transaction between Sega and Nintendo; picking up a game for exclusive publishing is very different from taking it away from a Publisher who already has rights. If Sega wanted to publish it, there isn't much Nintendo could have done about it. Therefore, the logical conclusion is that the game was dropped by its original publisher, and then Nintendo picked it up.

And yes, this could be a timed exclusive. I would not at all hold my breath, though. That sort of thing has happened (Ninja Gaiden Sigma) but isn't a common occurance and has never happened with Nintendo specifically.
Thanks, that logic makes sense. Still wondering about the Andy Mac thing though. Bayo 2 has been confusing as all heck, but whatever, we're getting it and that's all that matters. I am not one of these people who will stomp their feet that I won't get to play it on my preferred platform; as long as it's being made, I'm SUPER happy.

And actually, in thinking about the strange little off-segments in Bayonetta, I'm pretty excited to see what Platinum can come up with in regards to the WiiU gamepad for Bayo 2. Creative dudes over there.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

People keep saying that Bayonetta 2 wa cancelled at some point, but I've yet to see one shred of evidence showing that.

Obviously something happened to cause the game to switch platforms and publishers. I just have a feeling that it didn't go down exactly the way everybody seems to be assuming.
Sega essentially ran out of money, bigtime. They've been in real trouble, and things like Anarchy Reigns slipping to next year when they can afford to push it out, is a symptom of that, while tacit "focussing on Sonic/Aliens/Total War only" are the public side of things.

A project like Bayonetta 2 would have been the first thing on the chopping block, and it never came to be despite some very strong rumblings. Now look at GI guy confirming as well.

I can't wait to see the Nintendo references in this. The first game was filled with Sega stuff.
I don't see why the second wouldn't have Sega stuff too.

Heavy, we're cool cuz we're like the only fans of LOTR:WITN, so I'm gonna tell you that you needed to stop about 5 posts ago dude. You're proving their points.

There are a lot of areas in Bayo where you can lean on one combo over and over again effectively, but that's a tad different than mashing, and it's only with certain enemies and on difficulty levels where you can get away without dodging for more than 5 seconds.

This is a surprising, and unexpected, coup for Nintendo, and I can only hope this is one of the directions they are going to go this generation.

Platinum Games = next Monolithsoft?

Buy Quest from Square, Nintendo, and I will give you my children. All of them.

SEGA announced they were not publishing any more games except already announced ones and a few core IPs. SEGA completely owns the bayonetta IP. It's not a huge leap in logic to assume SEGA cancelled bayonetta 2.

(I was always talking about Bayonetta btw, which would be obvious if you could read.) You EXPLICITLY called it a button masher. Jesus fuck. And I don't care about your opinion, just the blatant in-your-face lying (and the strawman in another post).
I found it to be one from what I played, didn't call it one outright. There's a difference, it's called context. No need to blow up over that. Reread your post:

You cared enough to flip your lid over something so trivial, good lord.

I think the real question is do you have any reason to post in this thread if you have no interest in the game being discussed? If you think it's a button masher fine.
I was only responding to the people who replied. And also commented on how a real exclusive like this is a good sign for the future.

Can't wait for next E3.

I've always been a huge fan of Bayonetta. When this launches, I may bite on the console if it really is WiiU Exclusive. I'm just happy the franchise has been resurrected!

Kamiya + Inaba + Nintendo? Unexpected, but love.

I wanted to post this but even I don't think exclusivity is gonna happen.

Multi-plat though is something I expect at this point lol.
But wouldn't that be actually epic. We will most definitely have a new version of an "I am expert" moment.

Exactly, and that's the issue with Nintendo consoles (aside form handhelds), they're Nintendo machines for Nintendo franchises for Nintendo fans lacking peripheral appeal. This could change any time, but not with a stop gap HD solution like the Wii U.

We're expected to "suck it up" and buy a console that holds only one title we want and will look outdated by the end of 2013? That is a tall order. Bayonetta Wii is icing on the cake for Nintendo fans, but it's a diamond in the desert for others.

Again. I got angry because you blatantly lied. I don't care about your opinion on Bayonetta, which is clearly not exactly worth much. What made me angry was that your blatant lie - which, btw, followed a strawman argument. People lying in such an offhand and dumb way just pisses me off. This level of dumb in-your-face lying thankfully does not happen all the time and imo isn't exactly "trivial". (If this kind of dishonesty is "trivial" for you...well, I wouldn't be proud of that.) I'm a bit ashamed for having taken you seriously in any degree though.

Bayonetta is definitely not a button masher. I know that because I initially tried to button mash in it and got royally fucked. You have to really understand how it controls to get very far in it.

That's why I want a PS4 and 720 now... don't wanna spend money on a new current-gen console... 'cause nintendo have done a great job for his fans... this only means that no Bayonetta 2 for me.

PD: If the game was in fact cancelled for PS360, then there's no complain here. Platinumgames must know what they're doing... (maybe Rising lifeboat...)

It wasn't a blatant lie. Why would I purposely lie like that the very next post unless I had short-term memory loss or something? It's called context and speaking from your own personal experience. "I found that"... not "It is"

I cannot believe people are bitching.

It's beyond obvious this game would not exist if Nintendo didn't get involved. Be thankful that they intervened to bring us the sequel we've wanted for years.

I understand buying a new system is a big investment, but it's a small price to pay to get more Bayonetta.

Bayonetta 2 was real. SEGA stopped giving a shit, like they did with a lot of things, including Max Anarchy. Bayonetta 2 was dead, and I have no reason to disbelieve the people who told me this.

It would appear, as others have stated, Nintendo went shopping for IPs. Bayonetta 2 probably had X% of production complete, and with SEGA disinterested in finishing it felt they could pick it up for an affordable price in order to expand their Wii U portfolio into an area they pretty evidentially lack in.

In addition to this, Nintendo is likely cultivating a relationship with Platinum Games. The company's two next games are exclusive to Nintendo platforms. They're published and funded by Nintendo. Nintendo obviously sees the talent and potential at the studio, and where the studio can expand the company's portfolio. Two games, especially these two, is a nice start. If they succeed, I can guarantee we'll see further collaboration. If they bomb, then Nintendo will probably look elsewhere.

And if they bomb, Nintendo's licensing of Bayonetta 2 may be limited, and I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility of a port to another system. But that's an if, and there are no guarantees.

As it stands, fact of the matter is if Nintendo didn't step in and pick up the Bayonetta 2 project nobody, nowhere would be getting it. Nobody wanted it. It was scrapped. Bayonetta 2 was dead. As a huge fan of the original, the way I look at it having the game is better than not, and I'm stoked Nintendo stepped in to salvage the project. It means I, a huge Bayonetta fan, get to play a sequel I otherwise would not.

Bitching about this collaboration that necessitates the entire game's existence seems so damn silly. We've all got our platform(s) of choice, but the simple fact of the matter is Bayonetta 2, as it was, was not going to appear anywhere else. If you don't like it, write SEGA some angry mail or something. Whining about it in a thread dedicated to the game's revival at the hands of an unlikely company is so petty and silly.
