Bayonetta Hype Thread (now with a whole lot of E3 videos and impressions)

Got the 360 version this mornign and have played the first hour or so. WOW! :D The intro in the graveyard may be the greatest I've ever seen, just so rediculous and over the top :lol

Love the little touches like Enzo pissing on Kamiya's tombstone :)O!!!) and the Outrun music in the car :p

Combat is fantastic, as per the demo. Too early to say for sure obviously, but if this keeps up then I may end up loving this even more than the mighty DMC3!

Japanese devs/games may not be as great as in the past, but games like this are reminders of why when you get a group of the best devs in Japan, nothing can touch their output :D

Like I said, it's basically the same as Hard mode, but you can't go into witch time under any circumstances.

Isn't there an accessory that
turns witch time energy into an explosive that does a lot of damage?

Seems it was pretty much made for that mode.

Yeah that works great, didn't think it would work but it did.

Man, sometimes I wish I had one or two more accessory slots.

Looking forward to this game. Can somebody confirm how much backtracking is in the game? Also, do they reuse any of the bosses?

My two biggest gripes about DMC4.

How much? :lol

Pretty much none unless you count
Paradiso, which occasionally uses parts from other levels. Though it uses so little and is so different it won't feel like the same places.

Some bosses do reoccur but they are weakened significantly so taking them out shouldn't be frustrating or anything.

Does anyone know the button input to freeze the enemy with the ice skate weapons equipped? I did it once by accident and turned the enemy into an ice block that you can throw, but I can't seem to do it again.

It's random.

Before doing Chapter IX, went back and found some health / magic increasing items and explored the levels some more. Cleared I think 3 Alfheim rooms (
Angel weapons, staying in the air, no witch time
) and they were pretty rough. I wasn't able to handle the ones where you have to
Kill a beloved I think with 7 kicks and 6 punches..or something, and then kill all these enemies before time runs out where if you take three hits you're out (has the rolling enemies)

Those are some pretty fun challenges! I think I have almost all the techniques (at least those available in Rodin's shop), but gonna try to plow through more of the game this weekend.

I'm up to Chapter 8 right now and I can safely say this is the best action game I've ever played. It's like the level design of God of War and the combat of Devil May Cry/Viewtiful Joe/God Hand made sweet sweet love and made the most beautiful baby in the world. Bless your soul Kamiya.

on chapter 7 now.

my combo scores have been real low and I kept dying on stage 5...

I finally taught myself how to play better, unfortunately the thing is,

I thought I kinda had the combat a little figured out when I first played the demo, I didnt think the game had additional moves like hold R + direction of your opponent and hit X bla bla bla,

so now that I have incorporated more of her non-string attacks into my playstyle, and I feel as if Im playing the game exactly the way I played DMC -_- especially with liberal use of her "stinger" like moves.

it's definitely brought me more success as far as playing the game well is concerned, but I really wish I had a better understanding of how to play the game.

You're supposed to vary up your attacks, attack something at least every 5 seconds, not get hit, activate witch time a lot, taunt every once in a while, do torture attacks when you're able, and just be efficient.

Watch Kamiya play:

You know what's awesome? I love how different the battle music is between Bayonetta and something like Ninja Gaiden or DMC. Ninja Gaiden has this epic music that's perfect for making you feel like a ninja bad ass, DMC has the awesome, hard rock music yet here comes Bayonetta with this cheesy pop song...yet it totally works. I'm humming the theme as I type this.

Thats exactly what i have hoped for since this game was announced.

Gamekult.com Import Review (PS3)

Fall into the malicious charm of Bayonneta, a watchdog capable to thumb their noses at the others beat'em all on its first attempt. Guided by the creator of Devil May Cry himself, the Platinum Games studio gave birth to a nice creature with a combat system which synthesized the best of the genre since the advent of Dante. Beautiful, rich, varied, with gigantic bosses, a dash of erotism and a lot of fun. Bayonetta is a straight success on many levels which make easy to forget some little flaws and archaic level design. But hey, when you go around naked...

+ awesome game system
+ Bayonetta !
+ well done checkpoints
+ crazy bosses
+ madness to the fullest
+ well made graphics/design

- loadings
- scenario
- off-subject scenes
- instant killed QTE
- recycling (bosses, environments)

8/10

Man, I'm dying a lot in this game and I'm not a bad player, I can beat every DMC and NG game in the max difficulty but there is something about this game that is kicking my ass.

I hate the lock on in this game, I can't focus into evade properly when I have the lock on button pushed. Why there is no option to change the button configuration and why there is not an option to change the lock on system?.

Anyway, awesome game, they mixed the best from NG and DMC battle systems.

QTE should die.

Double dip confirmed.

Goddamn it!

The postman didn't had my copy of Bayonetta with him today. Now, I'll have to wait till monday!

Haven't read all of this thread so not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I had a huge grin on my face when, in one of the early chapters,
Luka referred to Claire, Trish, Sylvia and Ammy! It's like one big love-in for fans of old Capcom/Clover/Kamiya games :D

This was a test of the PS3 version only (because 360 imports are a bitch, and because they only have a 360 debug version for the moment).
The "off board scenes" is a bad translation: the review refers to the outrun and space harrier stages there, stating they are "off-subject".

I didn't mind the outrun stages as much as the space harrier stage, that one was just annoyingly bad.

Good thing you can just avoid playing them thanks to chapter select.

Then you're in for a treat with the second one.

Yay! I'm currently about to do that
rolling rock
part of Chapter IX. I didn't know the
lightning would've stopped so I could go into feline form and run faster, so I died
:/

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
Finished the game. LOVED every minute of it; all of the boss fights, save one (the second to last) got progressively bigger in scale and more and more awesome each time, although that "unimpressive" fight had a really cool climax, that made it all worth it. The last fight was amazing; the ending was very satisfying, and everything was pretty much perfect. It edges out Uncharted 2 as the best action game of 2009 in my book.

I do wonder how the motorcycle and Space Harrier/Afterburner levels would play on PS3, though. Framerate issues might make those levels pretty annoying, but this was not an issue on 360.

Absolutely cannot recommend Bayonetta enough to anyone; it was a thrill ride from start to finish, and it makes every other 3D action game its bi-- er, witch.

If you only have a PS3, I'd buy a 360 for this game. Seriously.

I likes my PS3 version :(

Anyways, on a more related note, just finished Chapter XI. Enjoyed that a lot, though it seemed a little easier to win than the previous ones. But still cool!

I had no issues with the demo, but after what everyone's saying, here's hoping they seriously clean up the PAL release on PS3...

Really very excited for this. In the meantime, the beautiful 5-disc sountrack should be winging its way to me soon! :D

You love the PS3 version because you realize the PS3 version is just fine. The fuck cares that "it's not as good as the 360 version."

Also, is there one person in this thread that doesn't LOVE the game? :lol

I just want to say that the boss that you face
on the high seas on the raft
IS ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME BATTLES EVER. God, it wasn't super difficult, but the style is just amazing.

And, I kinda wish that
you could face the last Jeanne battle without doing the afterburner stage
(unless it can be skipped)

Rofl, they had to call it "Climax" edition.

I cant wait for this game. Hopefully they fix the ps3 problems before the US release.
