But lots of discussion to be had, but Marriage Story is my number one. And mumble core films are my least favorite things.

I truly dislike every film involving said writer/director...

But he nailed this one.

From what I've watched probably John Wick 3. I was interested in Ad Astra but I didn't hear great things, still plan to watch it at some point when I get a chance though.
Also The Lighthouse sounded interesting from some vague reviews I've read so I need to get to watch that too,

Joker easily. One of those rare cases where the masses and critics fully agree on a film being great.

Haven't seen The Lighthouse yet... Saving that one for juuuust the right time.

Joker is definitely the best one. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was also great, but that's about it for me (haven't seen The Irishman yet).

Tbh there weren't that many 2019 movies I've enjoyed. There were some big disappointments like Zombieland 2 or John Wick 3.

Parasite was the first time a movie deserved its Palme d'Or since freakin forever. Hilarious and thought-provoking at the same time. Biting and cathartic social satire without modern western manichaeism. Bong Joon-ho at his absolute best.

It's my Movie Of The Year hands down, and one of the decade's best, as I said in an other thread.

Joker is a close second. It's been a while a movie like this had such an impact on society, and got such praise from pretty much everyone across the board, nontroversies notwitstanding. I wasn't sure about it when the first trailer came out but was happy to be proven wrong and liked it a lot. I look forward to what Joaquin Phoenix does next and of course, what the future holds for Joker.

I loved Ford v Ferrari as well, but I'm a car nut and a "Le Mans" fan, so that was expected.

2019 was a pretty great movie year, all things considered.

Yeah not a lot of movies make me go to the theater but that was one of those. Even returned a second time to bring a friend which I never do these days

Yeah, I'd been meaning to watch it for ages but never got round to convincing my girlfriend. She wanted to turn it off after 15 minutes but I knew there was "something else" to the film so asked her to stick it out, and she was happy that we did.

Really smart film making. It's just difficult to recommend to people that they spend an hour and a half watching a movie that you can't really tell them anything about, since the point is you aren't supposed to know.

If anyone's reading this, by the way, go watch it, don't even watch the trailer, just go in blind.

I think The Irishman is the best I’ve seen this year if I were to grade objectively, but it isn’t my favorite. My favorite so far is either Parasite, Joker, or Endgame probably. Still need to see a handful like The Lighthouse, The Peanut Butter Falcon, 1917, Marriage story.

Pretty good film year (still haven't seen Rise of Skywalker, Jumanji, 1917, Spies in Disguise, and a few from earlier in the year) but I'd give 2018 the edge (saw 37 of its films, not sure on the exact count of this year's).
