Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction in a dystopian futuristic setting that tends to focus on a "combination of lowlife and high tech

Unfortunately in this genre, I've only played CP2077

Steampunk is a retro-futuristic genre that is influenced by the Steam Age, ranging from the late Regency era (1795–1837; when the Industrial Revolution began) through the Victorian era (1837–1901) and the Belle Époque (1871–1914)

My favorite has got to be The Order: 1886. I can't stop talking about this game.

I'll go on a stretch and also add Gravity Rush 1.

Solarpunk is an art movement that envisions how the future might look if humanity succeeded in solving major contemporary challenges with an emphasis on sustainability problems such as climate change and pollution.

Almost everyone must know that Horizon fits this genre so we'll

------

What are your favorite games in these series?

There are lesser known punk genres like Diesel punk and Atom Punk . What's your favorite?

check out the ascent. it's a pretty neat looking cyberpunk world. it's coming to gamepass pc/xbox as well on 7/28.

I do really like the order 1886 for a steampunk title. the game they are billions does it really well i think.

I can see why you would say some of the aesthetic characteristics or art style in horizon zero dawn look solarpunk. However, i don't think it's actually solarpunk. It's more post apocalyptic where as solarpunk is all about reaching renewable energy peak and is like the utopian view. horizon really isnt that. I really can't think of any game that i've played or seen that does though.

Of the three i'd personally have to say i prefer cyberpunk. the typical blade runner look, sound, and atmosphere just really resonates with me.

For cyberpunk, Deus Ex has to be mentioned

Though if i had to chose, i'd say the best Cyberpunk game i've played is VA-11 Hall-A (though deus ex is a close second)

Its just a visual novel sure, but it captures the themes of cyberpunk really really well in its story, along with excellent characters

////

Aside from those ones, other "punks" i've played... its hard to say since there are so many derivatives. I think No Mans Sky could classify as Raypunk? (basically space surrealism)

That's a good point. I think the sequel sequel hint as some climate change element in the story. We'll have to see

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Frostpunk, I mean it has "Punk" in the name lol. Seriously though Frostpunk is one of the hardest, most unforgiving city builders out there. It's also one of the best, its currently rated 9/10 on Steam and an 86% on Opencritic. It has great scenarios, great stories and very tough gameplay/story choices that can change your playthrough completely.

The game is also on GamePass for Xbox owners, that's how I played it. Otherwise I would've never heard of it. It sucks that the developers never released the final DLC/Scenario for consoles though. But yeah Frostpunk is a great game that I can't recommend enough.

Syndicate (2012), Deus Ex:HR then MD, Cyberpunk, and Observer. All games I enjoyed.

Does Mirror Edge count?

If we're counting The Order 1886, thought it was great storyline which so much potential. Don't really think Horizon fits the punk style.

Does Horizon really count for a "punk" game? I'd consider that more of a dystopian genre.

Either way, I lean toward Frostpunk.

It was already posted but arcanum was p. based. Men and women had different stats, and there were certain conspiracies. But the game was atmospheric af. Also troika was so heavenly. The music for arcanum and isometric 2d atmospheres and nature, all the stats. It was a beautiful strange world from a strange time, basically almost everything I wanted in a 2d offline game at the time after playing Ultima online

And this was before steampunk became cringe with cheetodust cosplayers dancing to popular music from 2012 with gears taped to top hats.

It's indeed great.... But also quite depressing... The choices and consequences...

Sad Michael Scott GIF

Adding up: Sunless Sea, gothic horror game aboard a steampunk ship.

Shit gets weird in an awesome way.
