Best James Bond Film?

I'm surprised by a few things looking at BoxOfficeMojo

1) Goldeneye was the first Bond to cross $100 Million domestic.
2) Then again, Goldeneye only made $106 million (I say only because, hey, that's not much today)
3) Die Another Day made $160 million domestic and is really close to the highest grossing Bond movie :/
4) Adjusted for inflation, Thunderball grossed $586 million domestic. Holy fuck!

I'm surprised by all the On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

While I agree that it's too over looked, I wouldn't consider it the best by any means. But I wasn't a huge fan of Blofeld and felt the SPECTRE bit was a little dragged out over the series.

Personally, my favourites are Dr. No, From Russia with Love, The Man with the Golden Gun, Tomorrow Never Dies and Casino Royale. Though Goldfinger and GoldenEye are pretty iconic too.

Goldeneye is my personal favourite (biased a bit by it being the first one I saw in theatres) but I'd probably put Goldfinger as the best overall Bond movie.

It just nails the tone.

This. I think if you grew up in the 90s you have a special place in your heart for goldeneye. I also always loved from Russia with love

I'm assuming everyone saying casino royals is under the age of 23? I mean it was an amazing movie but but so many others

How do so many people not know about the Peter Sellers 60s Bond?!

For me it would be either Goldfinger or Goldeneye, although Casino Royale and A View to a Kill are right up there.

For the same reason why so few know about In Like Flint.

I remember watching solace and not having a clue what was going on. Probably one of the worst bonds ever.

I'm a bit of a Bond fanboy, and Solace is the only one I refuse to own. I regret seeing it twice in theatres because I couldn't believe that it could be as bad as I thought it was when I first saw it.

Casino Royale was good, but I always felt it fell apart after the poker game.

A good reboot for the franchise after what had preceded it but not in the top Bond films for me. My favourite would probably be The Spy Who Loved me, for having just the right mix of everything that makes Bond.

Thunderball deserves more love, the underwater scenes are amazing. At one point you are watching a James Bond movie, and at the next someone is harpooning a shark, and people are fighting in diving suits.

Yeah, I picked up the Blu-Ray and watched it . . . . WTF? I didn't get it and wasn't even interested enough to watch it again to try to understand it. Such a tragedy considering Casino Royale.

It's still sat in my To Watch pile.

Heard so many bad things that I decided to skip it and wait for the next film instead :)

Completely agree with OP, the only weak part of On Her Majesty's Secret Service is that Connery didn't return for what would have been his best performance if he stayed - but Lazenby doesn't ruin what is pretty fucking spectacular in every other aspect of production.

I'll also always defend Dalton since The Living Daylights is a fantastic Bond film, same reason people love Brosnan for Goldeneye even though he also never topped his debut.

Craig will likely have the same problem.

Goldeneye followed by Casino Royale. No justification needed, it's simply true.

...oh yeah, The Spy Who Loved me is #3. Yeah, that's right; Roger Moore.

You and me both bro. Craig's serious Dalton still can't match the fiery vengeful look Dalton gave when he points the gun at Whitaker after Saunders was killed.

Or hell the entirety of License to kill. What happened to Felix and Della really pissed Bond off. All the scenes with Sanchez you could see past the facade Bond was putting up, Bond wanted to kill him so bad.

I also Liked the shark scene where Bond through the case of money to killifer who then fell into the sharks, whom had previously mamed Felix. Dalton just stares there almost expressionless, watching as killifer was eaten alive.

Edit: also the scene following Sharky death was dope: destroying the cocaine and the escape.

Goldeneye (Modern Bond)
Goldfinger (Old Bond)

And there's no way that craig is better than Brosnam.

Connery >> Brosnam >>>>>>>>>> Moore = Craig >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>other bunch of crappy bond actor

Goldfinger is my absolute favorite throughout history.

As for what is the best Bond movie overall? From Russia with Love probably gets high marks from the audience.

If I was to be completely honest (and I seldom is, I usually go with Goldfinger or Live and Let Die) I would have to say The Man with The Golden Gun.

Yeah it's silly.
But silly James Bond is best James Bond.
There's silly and then there's just plain stupid. Most of Golden Gun falls into the latter category.

Lets ruin a perfectly good car stunt with a childish slide whistle sound effect!

It also brought back Sheriff J.W. Pepper. The worst character in the franchise. Fuck that movie.

I've probably seen 16-17 of them, and there is no doubt in my mind that On Her Majesty's Secret Service is the best of them all. This has a lot to do with George Lazenby being my favorite 007 actor. Sean Connery and Roger Moore were both fine, but Lazenby acts much more like the Bond from the books IMO.

Came here to post this. I've seen all of them, and to me, OHMSS, is one of the most well delivered and brutal Bond films of the lot.

Also:
Casino Royale and Goldfinger.

And Timothy Dalton's delivery of "don't you want to know why?" in Licence to Kill ranks as one of the better Bond lines.

How controversial...........

I only liked the Connery and Moore Bonds. He died after Moore.
But i'm old. A View to a Kill probably.

Casino Royale... damn, some people here must be well under 16..

I'm surprised that so many people choose Casino Royale as their favourite. Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie, but in my opinion it's not really a 'Bond' movie. It's like they traded Q, the gadgets and most of the humour, for some sort of Bourne clone, with dark humour and lots of death. That just does not feel very Bond-ish to me.
