Excellent news. I hope they make a PS4 version and get more money for their next gen project.

I don't know why Telltale Games gets a free pass while everyone rags on Quantic Dream.
I believe it's mostly because Telltale's stories and characters are incredibly strong

Really happy. Experimental games like these deserve good sales as it sends out a message to others to push gaming to new territories. There's plenty of room for all types of games.

the message that things like gone home and walking dead send is that people like alternative story-based experiences

the message that quantic dream games send is that people will buy the most atrocious bullshit if it's packaged well and pushed by a platform holder and its insane fans

Really liked it. I'm happy that their games keep selling well. (I admint I couldn't resist replying after the post above mine)

Even if you don't like this game or David Cage, why would you want this to fail? It's not like Cages style of games are saturating the market. And while Heavy Rain did well it didn't sell that great that the majority of the industry would follow suit. So no need to fear that it will take over.

Even if you disliked Beyond, a lot people put a ton of hard work into this game. Why wish it ill?

What an arrogant post. Such a terrible attitude.

Kind of split over this one. I'm glad games like this exist and that there's a market for them, but I didn't actually think it was very good and it was a step back from Heavy Rain in some regards. Good for QD for not following the pack, and Sony for funding them, but they must try harder next time.

I echo this feeling, with the caveat that I haven't played Beyond, but feel that HR wasn't as awesome as it could be. But good news for the genre is good news to me, I guess!

Oh, please. I like what QD does. Do I want all games like that? No. Do I deny they have problems? Not at all. Calling anyone who likes these games an insane fanboy is absolutely ridiculous and short sighted. QD has a lot they can improve on but I like what they're doing.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
What I've learned in this thread is that Beyond sold 1 Million and that some of GAF is a bit off the rocker when it come to this kind of game.

as you can see, it's not a small difference, expecially when it comes to story driven games

Get a grip, they're no different from eachother.

Man when the title gets changed to a million, I hope we get more of these, so good.

Overall, Walking Dead was not as good as HR or Beyond, IMO. Better in some ways worse in others. aeolist, your post is total hyperbole.

If you think the gameplay in QD's games are bad then the same would apply to TWD, as they just ripped QD's formula and put it into their games.

loved the game and had a huge attachment to Jodie emotionally.......some bad writing but by golly I enjoyed the shit out of it.....Have beat the game over 6 times now......and will probably go back to it when playstation now hits

70 088 @Beyond2SoulsPS3 sold in France alone in 2013 (source: GFK). In fact, that's better than Heavy Rain in it's first 12 weeks on shelves

Nice, keep making these type of games QD, they're fantastic.

This is just idiotic... I especially love the bit where you imply gone home and walking dead are so different from Beyond. Your bias is showing well.

Um...

I don't claim that either Gone Home or The Walking Dead (which I didn't actually enjoy all that much) are high art, but claiming they're no different from one another is ridiculous. Those two had really smart writers behind them while Beyond was like a low-budget Syfy original from 2002. I think Quantic Dream have the technical chops to deliver an amazing game with the right collaborators, but their efforts so far, and David Cage's storytelling, are downright embarrassing.

Good news, it deserves every sale it can. :)
Wasn't as good as HR imo, but still in my Top 5 2013.

Beyond has its moments, but I prefered Heavy Rain as well. I think it was the fact that characters could die and the story would adapt to those changes in the narrative. It made for one of the most interesting discussions with my brother as to how our playthroughs differed from each other.

They're a damn sight better than TWD. But they're exactly the same type of game.

How much did Heavy Rain sell? I want to know if this performs better or worse.

According to this article, it sold around 1 million between launch (February 2010) and early April the same year, so roughly the same in the same amount of time - taking into consideration that Beyond launched in *crazy release season* and around the two next-gen consoles, and that is really not too bad. Maybe not what Sony were quite hoping for given the talent involved, but still impressive.

For those in the UK looking to pick it up, it's floating around £15-20 at the moment.

Selling a million units isn't really considered a success for a major game these days, is it? Companies like EA or Activision would declare a game a huge failure if it didn't manage to move significantly more than a million units after three months on the market.

Wasn't as good as Heavy Rain by a long shot. But good numbers considering it didn't seem to sell so strong out of the gate.

It's all about expectations I suppose. But then you wouldn't find EA or Acti ever green lighting HR/BTS in the first place.

Still need to get around to playing this. Missed out on a sale recently and when I went back it was full price which now makes it hard to justify :p

I was able to play Heavy Rain because of a friend, but I still have to play Beyond: Two Souls.

I know Quantic Dreams have their share of haters, and I can see where they are coming from. Heavy Rain's plot was kinda bizarre and it just went all over the place, but the experience was something else, especially when you have to make the heavy decisions.

This is also good news for the industry... there is room for games that are quirky and inventive, and that you could sell those games given the right marketing push.

--EDIT: Could this mean that Sony and Quantic Dreams will tying up for another game in the PS4? If so, excite! Beyond, from what I see, looks gorgeous. How much more with that next-gen power?

Good to hear. I enjoyed HR a lot and I can't wait to play this when it's a PS+ freebie. Too much of a PS+ backlog to justify paying money for PS3 games right now.

QD, please hire some professional writers and gameplay specialists for your PS4 project and double your sales due to improved reviews.

QD (with Heavy Rain at least) kept to a modest budget and made a very healthy profit. Probably the same here.

Still probably not profitable. If Heavy Rain cost $50 million to market/develop/distribute, imagine this is around that cost for everything. Will probably break even at some point I'm guessing though.

That's great, hope the games continue to do well despite some people wanting genres they don't like to go away.
Same here.

Beyond was a miss for me but I want them to keep trying and keep making them. Variety is a good thing, and there's always a lot to learn from the last project. In this case they nailed the presentation and then some, but there wasn't enough consequence and the out-of-order structure just made things feel random.

Still interested to see what they do next.

That seems pretty good for just France. I liked the game. Hope it does well worldwide.

The game bombed spectacularly, France is probably the only country where it did well relatively to the size of the market.
Sony must've lost a ton of money with this one.
