So it seems that after the Milo scandal Bill Maher in the past has said pretty much the same thing.

https://twitter.com/wyatt_privilege/status/834399728519426048

Sorry I don't have a better video link but it's certainly all there.

Basically Maher defends a relationship between a 35 year old teacher and their 14 year old student (younger when they started apparently) after she was pregnant with two of this boys kids.

Absolutely fucking disgusting and I hope the we of the left hold him to the same standards the right held Milo Yiannopoulos.

It's important to give Bill a more mainstream platform so that Bill can eviscerate him in public.

People always seem to care less when the boy is younger. Doesn't excuse Bill but I see it all the time, and it's pretty saddening. A 14 year old boy is equally susceptible to being derailed developmentally by it.

Especially if the teacher is hot there's all kinds of "niice" or "but he wanted it" comments. Well, yeah, so did a consenting 14 year old girl, but that doesn't make it ok.

"How can a woman rape a man." OK Maher, you might need to take a step back and think about that for a bit. I hope he has changed since holding these views.

Maher's always been a piece of shit. This isn't terribly surprising, but yeah that video was fucking disgusting.

Pretty sure this was taken from his old show Politically Incorrect so my guess is its pretty old.

Doesn't really excuse it though.

It doesn't excuse it, but opinions do change.

I don't watch Maher so it doesn't matter to me either way, i'm just gun shy about people holding people to comments they made a generation ago. people learn and grow.

Is there more of the clip?

This kind of seems like an intentional controversial take that isn't actually his real opinion but is just designed to create discussion.

Does he clarify further in the show that he agrees with the other panelists?

I'm pretty sure his feet were held to the fire more than two decades ago when he made that statement.

Anyone know if his views have changed in the 7,300+ days since he said those incredibly stupid words?
Let's check in 2007.

https://www.ipce.info/newsletters/e_22/2_5_mahler.htm

Playboy: But even after leaving their jobs as pages, they were far younger than Foley.

Maher: Look, I'm a 51-year-old man, and I go out with girls in their early 20's. I'd be hypocritical if I said it's ridiculous for a gay man to so that. I'm very libertarian about love. I'm the only guy I've ever heard who defends Mary Kay Letourneau.

Playboy: Are you saying teachers should be allowed to have sex with their 13-year-old students, as she did, and not go to jail?

Maher: I think it's a little offbeat, but you know, I believe in the double standard. If a 28-year-old male teacher is screwing a 13-year-old girl, that'a a crime. But with Debra Lafave (another teacher who had sex with a student) screwing her 14-year-old boy student, the crime is that we didn't get it on videotape. Was he being taken advantage of? I wish I had been taken advantage of like that. What a memory she gave him! I would think he's a champion among his friends. Are you kidding? Even with Michael Jackson--

Hey boys? Have you been raped by a hot older woman? You are so lucky, as Maher sees it.

Looks like his ABC show so probably 2002 or before.

Yup that would be Politically incorrect. A bit of info about it for those who never saw it back then. It was canceled due to the aftermath of Bill saying some stupid shit after 9/11. They lost almost all advertising and pretty much ratings had tanked.

Politically Incorrect was an American late-night, half-hour political talk show hosted by Bill Maher that aired from 1993 to 2002. It premiered on Comedy Central in 1993, moved to ABC in January 1997, and was canceled in 2002.

This was the quote that caused the outrage.

Maher agreed, and replied: "We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, [it's] not cowardly."

This is tough because on the surface it's same kind of deal as the Milo stuff. However I do think there is a difference between "this guy said something 2 years ago" vs. "this guy said something nearly 15 years ago".

He should be held accountable, but does he still hold this mindset?

Yea people really do give less fucks when its a heterosexual relationship and the minor is a male. This will go no where.

For the people hoping his views changed, he was a man presumably in his forties when he was making those statements. His views on many other things havent changed, no reason to believe why this should be a thing he changed his mind on.

Unless he comes out and says it openly, his views have not changed.

Just think how many careers the internet's history will destroy in the coming decades.

I guess he can try and fall back on the "comedian" routine but either way that kind of view is pretty reprehensible and I would hope he's evolved his views since then. I mean, that same kind of thread on GAF in the wary 00s would have probably been filled with the exact same kind of sentiment. It's crazy how dated so many views on certain things have become in such a short time. I was listening to some Chapelle stand up last week at work and the "whore's uniform" routine came up and it sort of made me cringe. He'd get torn apart if he did that today but it wasn't that long ago.

Also, unclear if this was part of his shtick. I don't think that surfacing this video now means that he should have to be fired now, unless he holds to these same (incorrect) opinions.

That's old as shit and pretty in line with the old view of female teachers and male students.

But I'm thinking he probably feels the same way today. The niiiiiiiice argument among non pc type people.

This is gross... but not as inflammatory as I would have thought, or hoped to be perfectly honest.

As another already pointed out, Maher essentially gave the "Nice!" defence in a time where that was more prevalent, and it still is now. Don't get me wrong, I have a healthy dislike for Maher and his politics, so if he gets the boot for this, I won't deny being quite chuffed, but, given how dated the video is I see wriggle room for an escape of the more serious consequences one might anticipate based on the thread title.

ALTHOUGH, in concurrence with his behaviour on the show when he had Milo on, I can see an argument for not much having changed, and that wouldn't surprise me. So, yeah, fuck Maher. This seems survivable but if not all the better.

There was nothing funny about that footage.

There is something about teacher and underage students that especially disgusts me. I don't understand how people can just hand wave the power differential and the misuse of trust even if you're a fucking creep that thinks relationships between children and adults are okay.

Most people don't care if it's a younger boy being molested by an older woman. It's sad but it's the truth. Any time a story like this pops up I see tons of "Nice!" Posts from guys on my Facebook

Eh, that is at least his own experience, and we don't know what happened. Did they kiss, did they have sex?

I think George Takei has gone on record describing it as his first gay sexual experience.

Sadly lots of men believe this shit that if your female teacher sleeps with you when you're underage, you are "lucky" not raped.
