Billboard: Top 100 Greatest Artists of All Time

So some other stats. Pearl Jam had the fasting selling album during the Billboard era with Versus. And then again they had the fastest selling vinyl with Vitalogy. Both were defeated. Fastest selling album as I recall was that puppet N'Sync album, and fastest selling vinyl was a Jack White album.

Yeah you do have to wonder about how they weighted the eras.

Michael had as many Top 10 songs on the hot 100 as Janet has total songs that charted.

Let alone his album sales... Janet must have really gotten a boost from all those 90's #1's.

As I pointed out earlier:
That's the only thing that makes any sense. And it kinda makes the list bollocks, if you ask me. Michael might actually be #1 if not for whatever they're doing here with the era weighting.

13. Rihanna

Janet above Michael?
Paul above John?

This is lunacy.

Edit: Oh, society is to blame, not some rando list-maker.

I mean, not that Janet and Paul aren't talented, but you wouldn't have heard of either without Michael Jackson and John Lennon.
you wouldn't have heard of john lennon without paul mccartney either if the tragic CRASH in writing quality between the beatles and any of lennon's solo efforts is an indicator

Now now, the 70s were none too kind to Paul, and that was the only decade John had as a solo artist. During which time I think he did far more dignified and interesting (if not as fast-selling) work.

You wouldn't catch John dead doing shit like this:

Source: John is already did, and you didn't.

Poor reasoning. Single's are usually the better tracks of any album.

Not sure if you've listened to any Rihanna albums, but for her albums that isn't really the case. There's also plenty of other albums where the lead singles/secondary singles aren't as good as album tracks, but that's subjective.

Wow no Pink Floyd. The list is already very stupid but the amount of artists who wouldn't and shouldn't be on such a list is mind boggling.

What I love about this is the responses you many of you guys give. Billboard tricks people into thinking this list is about artistry when it's actually just about sales. A pointless metric to judge artists by since you can't make anything new when you're dead.

Still this thing shows how a lot of people will always vehemently argue Michael's superiority over lesser artists, which is both heartwarming and the truth.

Plenty of artists put up bonkers sales figures after they're dead, including a bunch at the top of this list.

Mariah has been effectively dead for nearly a decade and she's still filling her piggy bank from her past successes.

The fact that 95% of MJ's success came from only 6 albums means he's the real number 1.

I don't care about your logical reasoning I like mine better.

I hoped Prince would be a bit higher than 18..

Bruce Springsteen at 92 breaks my heart :-( I'm a big fan of Billy Joel too (25), but that much higher than Bruce? Madness.

Edit: what the hell, Queen aren't even on the list but Andy Gibb is? And Starship?! I need to stop reading this list.

Edit 2: now realised it's about the sales, but still feel pretty miffed about my above points!
