I've spent 6 hours with the game. It has some issues, but it's fun to play. Time just flew by without me noticing.

For now, I'd say this is a solid 7/10 game.

I can certainly say that I have enjoyed it a lot more than many big budget, open world games.

What I have issues with should not be impossible to fix in a possible patch or sequel.
Yup, 7 on a rainy day, 8 on a sunny day, that’s my score so far. And the sun is shining! 😎

Level 7 so far, Mercenary class, hard difficulty. The AA polish is shining through at times, clipping, low res textures and blocky geometry, I still think indoor areas look bad but outdoors it looks really nice, and best of all I’m having fun! The really low scores are good to use as guides for what reviewers to ignore in the future. 👍

This is a bad-ass looking game. Art direction is STELLAR! I can't wait to delve more into it. Here's a vid I took of the amazing color and lighting (mimics CG presentation similar to R&C):

So I finally got to play a few hrs today, enough to get the gist of the open world and it's not bad but I'm not feeling it. Early on I got Banjo-Kazooie vibes with the grunts of the characters speaking and the colorful, inviting world. The music is also very nice. But overall I was hoping for something a little more mature and gritty. It certainly isn't that.

Looks great, ran great at max settings for me at 1080p. Decent game, and I can see some people greatly enjoying it. Not for me though.

You're constantly letting us know how you aren't impressed with games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart or The Last of Us Part 2. But, BioMutant? Now, THAT'S amazingly badass!

Ok, then.

Haven't played either of those games so I would not comment on them. R&C I said looks great artistically. Not sure why I can't have an opinion that may not be popular among the masses. I gave full reviews on Demon Souls and GoT. Liked both games. I don't have to be super excited for all Sony games.

Just wish the combat felt better. You do have to take your time and not button mash but the lack of oomph when you land your hits is very underwhelming. The enemies do react to your hits but without the feedback it just doesn't feel right.

It’s definitely no Souls game but I don’t think it’s all that bad, it’s a bit loose but after 5 hours I’ve honestly had more interesting fights here than the same time in the latest Assassin’s Creed title, and way better fights than in any The Elder Scrolls title (and I love TES!). It all depends what you’re comparing it with. RPGs, action games, adventure games. Biomutant is doing so much well enough that it’s hard to pinpoint what it is. In general my feeling right now is that they’re trying to do too many things with too much complexity. I don’t think it needs the complexity, it’s the world and characters that bring the love for me, I just find myself constantly smiling traversing the world, taking photos, looking at the scenery, catching a sunset. It’s a cozy game.

Btw, if you tweak the Steam review filters to not show reviews from people with a playtime under 5 hours the general consensus is that people are very positive. I wonder how many that are dropping the game because of how it starts.

This game is awesome, and is a solid 9 out of 10.

I never played Ratched and the Clanks.

I never played Banjo Kazooie.

I never played Crash Bandicoot.

I never played Rayman or Spyro.

So this game most definitely scratches that furry itch that I never thought I had. My dude is a Commando Rex with a big ass head. He's so cute.

Lol did i just lose 90 min on a single fight yesterday?!

Big enemies on hard hit like fucking trucks, like 80% of your health with one attack...

Playing as a mage at the beginning is rough but i'm loving it, thank god the game is not brainless.

I finally unlocked the wung fu mechanic and i crafted my first shotgun who mostly look like a crossbow, the game gets better and better when you surpass the first 2 hoirs filled with tutorials.

Oh and btw, i'm gonna rip out the testicles from that lupa lupin bitch who killed my mu ma and pops :lollipop_squinting:

10 hours in and I have to admit that I really enjoy this game.
World is beautiful and such a relaxing experience when exploring.
Combat nowhere near as bad as reviews are saying, don’t stand out amongst other open world action games with AAA budget, the only issue is weak feedback from melee hits, but once you craft some fancy weapons it’s starts to be a joy of swapping them around.
The same goes for enemy variety, it’s really not that different from titles like BOTW or Days Gone.
Crafting system is great, really makes me excited whenever I find some better quality parts so I can play around and make something unique and cool.

And this is the best about this game, it throws FUN at you! No pseudodeep stories with political or badly written psychological issues. You get in the big world and enjoy the ride.

I have to admit that on Hard difficulty you need to stay focused and for many of encounters planning in your head at the same time when you fight is essential.

What really might kill this game success is lack of proper voice acting compared to price point, this really should not be sold for £40+
After few hours you really want go to options and take sliders to the left with gibberish and narration - thank god for that, otherwise I would be done after 5 hours.

Pacing of tutorial really fucking sucks, I am not surprised at all that steam user reviews are 90% positive for those who got past first 5 hours.

Can’t wait to play after work!

Yep. They need to put in an option to turn off the tutorial in the bunker, you don’t see the title screen until you’re out in the open anyway, as it is everyone will enter the game with a bad first impression.
If devs won’t remove it then I hope modders will. Just put in a choice to place the character outside the bunker with upgrade points that takes you to level 3. Done.

Same here though, can’t wait to play it tonight again!

One thing, why can’t I zoom out so the camera is further away from the character? It’s needed. This needs to be patched in imo.

I'm almost tempted to put the game aside and wait for some patches, but i'm having so much fun...

For people who was on the edge, maybe wait a few weeks and control the situation on reddit, maybe by then the game is gonna cost 20-30 dollars.

15minutes? That is barely into the tutorial. The beginning tutorial kind of sucks. You haven't even begun to see ANY of the gameplay. Come on, really?

Guys, when the game offers you to pacify the map and ending the war between tribes, don't accept that option or you are not gonna be able to unlock all the tribes's weapons.

I do like the combat as there are a lot of options, I just want a little more feeling in melee combat. It does looks like they are aware and are going to address that so I may wait until that patch is out before playing again.

agreed here. I'm a little bit into it. It has 0 impact the combat.

Agreed here. The moves are great but the animation doesn't connect with the motions of the player. It's too bad really because the game is hella fun other than that.

Level 9, while I can see issues it feels like I’m playing a different game than the most negative critics. I’m really enjoying this! Got the airglider today, nice! 👍

The fights are getting harder, dodge, healing and special moves are crucial on hard, or maybe I’m just bad idk.

I’m puzzled by the dark and light choices. I went with light and it feels like the game is trying to get me to swap. Is anyone here going with dark? Is it the same for you?

Few pics, I increased the light a bit, for some reason they become too dark on Steam.

I initially played a bit of the tutorial, or just to after it's done and came back to it today.

I'm not sure if it's just my state of mind today but I cannot stand the narrator and gibberish talking. It just slows everything down. I turned it all off and just read subtitles.

Also some of the dialogue choices are moronic.

"There's a village over there you should check out."

You can choose to respond with
"There's a village over there?"
Or
"Village?"

It's so stupid like the character is an actual moron. Hopefully that improves.

Is every single release of a modern game just a beta test that gets fixed 69 months later after the devs realized their ideas were dogshit?

There is nothing wrong with their ideas, they just added too many and they aren’t perfectly implemented. But if you go to Steam and set the minimum playtime to like 5 or 10 hours you’ll suddenly see that people’s opinion goes from mixed to very positive. The real crankiness seems to come from people who has barely done the tutorial (which is bad).

It lacks the AAA polish but it’s unique and entertaining and the world is well designed. Personally I would recommend it to anyone who like action RPGs. But I’m guessing the price will drop soon so maybe wait till Steam summer sale.

Well, that's just selective bias. Of course those who stick with the game longer are going to like it more. There are many who shut it off as they didn't like it so eliminating them doesn't make sense.

Personally, I can see good qualities in the game (music, art style). But it kept taking my control away from the character every few seconds, for what amounts to grade school story exposition. Once I got to the open world, it was still pause after pause of the gameplay. I found myself already wanting to skip all dialogue by the third hour. The combat is also just passable, not great. I feel like there was something there with the idea of the game, but their decided approach just doesn't really work.

It gets less interuptive as it goes on. But I agree that it’s annoying, I would rather just have a text line pop up or even no tutorial at all so I can find out what to do by myself. A tutorial for double jump in 2021 is just dumb. It’s not dangerous to let the gamer experiment a bit.

Anyway I’m 10 hours in and now I can explore freely, fly with the airglider, ride on my mount, I just get interupted when I loot stuff or when talking, which can be quickly mashed through if nothing important is shown or said.

While good that they're fixing their game, I can't help but think after reading this, "We're still finishing this game."

There is definitely a good game buried in here. They cram so many different systems and concepts in such a short time that it’s really hard to get your bearings. One minute I was focusing on these tribal territories and the next minute I am building a boat for some walrus.

Given all of the tutorials they throw at you, some of these systems (crafting, leveling up, perks) are still a bit too obtuse.

The game was fun when I started ignoring the objectives and just wandered around.

The impact of the melee combat is a big problem too. Half the time I don’t even know if I am hitting anything.

I have been really enjoying myself.

The first hour or so is a slog. Even once you get outside the first open area is closed in a bit. You need some time to get to the open world of the game and finally set yourself to explore.

This is a very Zen gameplay focused game. I feel that’s why the combat isn’t so tough.

I made changes to the FOV and maxed it. I turned off the camera following the player option to give better movement with the camera. I also increased the camera speed greatly. Along with some other control and camera tweaks to really get it right. Luckily they give you a lot of options however the default is not good.

The world is very dense with things to find and people to talk to, quests to start and loot to find. While the open world isn’t emergent in the sense of large AI patterns and such, there is always something nearby that helps you in some way or groups of enemies to fight.

The game is priced at a budget price in Canada so I am happy with the game based on what I paid here which was $59.99 CAN ($44 USD).

I have been playing on my Xbox Series X with 60fps on at 4K and with HDR on. It looks really good. There are some rough areas, many indoors. However the open world is gorgeous and the photo mode is easy to use.

I'm enjoying the game. Noticed the sound/audio problem straight away and hope it get's fixed. It's a bit obvious the game needed at least another few months for polish and testing.

Thanks for those camera tips, I haven’t played around with that, will try asap! 👍

I still don't get weapons. I'm using my starter gun and gloves from the start. 10 hours in. I have gotten lots of armors.

You craft them and it's a blast! (There are some to be gained from taking enemy camps too.) After 10+ hours I love the game. I IS SO GOOD! Screw the reviews tbh. This time they got it totally wrong. Did they play more than 4 hours?

You can craft weapons, it's the whole point of the game.

I unlocked 2 tribes weapons and found 2-3 legendary weapons just by exploring and defeating one tribe, but right now i'm using a 2handed sword and a shotgun that i created...

Btw, i can't get over how gorgeous this game looks in some occasions, especially when it rain, it is probably the prettiest AA from a small studio ever created and sometimes looks better than some AAA, how can this be possible with only 20 persons? there is really no more excuse for shitty looking open world today.

Yeah I have 50+ screenshots so far after just 10 hours playing 😅 I love the visuals!

I won’t dodge the bigger issues but I think it’s incredibly unfair to rate this as low as some critics did. But it’s clearly a divisive game. And I think it somehow tricked both hardcore Souls and RPG fans to compare it to their favorite games.

No it’s not Sekiro in action sequences.
No it’s not Skyrim on role-playing.

But it has better action than Skyrim and better role-playing than Sekiro.

Where does that put it? I would rate it 7.5/10 today. Leaving some room for 8/10 if they manage to patch it up well enough.

It’s ok.

Some stuff fun. Some stuff bad. Some stuff fucking annoying.

I suggest paying absolutely zero attention to the story and just following map markers.

One tip.

Use parry - it works like Batman in that you will jump to the enemy trying to hit you. You can then stun/hit them in the air.

Oh cmon the game even has a mini fluffy megalodon mount, and i thought that the mechnaic hand was going to be my favourite...
