Black Ops 3: Thoughts and impressions

I hope they create a map that is just one obfuscating corridor that requires all players to wall run and bounce off corners to get near the enemy.

As of right now, wall-running is really tacked on and serves no strategic purpose. I miss the frenetic pace of AW.

Maybe it's just that time in every man's life, but after playing about 8 hours of the beta, I think I can finally step away from CoD forever. It's just over. I feel like the series has no joy left for me.

EVAC map did look pretty. That's the only positive I'll take away from the experience looking back on my CoD death bed.

Rocket League anyone? ;)

I disliked Ghosts greatly. The maps were horrible (worst in the series by far), the hit detection poor and as a result the gameplay was garbage.

Advanced Warfare had a really solid, uber-quick movement system but combined with the bad network code and super quick TTK... it became unplayable at times, IMHO.

BOIII, to me, feels so damn good! It's the perfect mix of fluid movement (occasional wall-running falls from run-detection still need to be addressed) medium TTK and very well laid out 3-lane maps. Played the full beta on both the PS4 and Xbox One. Played half of the time in full parties with clan mates and the other half solo. Really think this game will depend on the network performance and reception of the specialists.

Best COD since BOII.

MW3's maps were still not as bad as Ghosts IMO. The smaller scale made Ghosts' at least playable.
Then you don't remember MW3 too well. The maps were badly designed and led to constantly seeing the enemy spawn. And unlike other games where you would on rare occasion have a bad spawn, MW3's horrendous spawns were commonplace.

I take it you didn't play MW3

MW3 with its faults still had some leftover awesome from MW2. The killstreaks were way more fun to use and the game wasn't boring as hell like Ghosts was. The maps were hit or miss yes, but Ghosts had some crappy maps. One thing I really did like about Ghosts was the ability to customize the fire rate of a lot of the guns. Wish that was brought over to add more customization.

I'd much much rather go back and play MW3 than ghosts or AW any day.

I have to say, i enjoyed it so much that i re-downloaded it on xbox One afterwards. The maps are great, the guns feels good, not as much jumping like in AW. Overall, much better game. Feels more like a traditional COD.

I tried to go back to AW when the beta ended and man, i really hate AW. What a bad game. I couldnt play 10-20 minutes after playing BO3 and i deleted it completely from my HDD.

BO3 makes Ghosts and AW look really bad.

I couldnt get over the mouse input lag.

Game also didnt run so well.

Not a big fan so far.

Id like to try it once all the issues are addressed , but i am already tired of scifi and OP killstreak bs so im likely passing on this one.

Glad to see TreyArch back in the driver's seat. I cringe thinking that IW is up next.

After sinking a couple hours with the PS4 version and buggy PC version.
I can safely say I'm done with Call of Duty, until they stop catering to casual players, and take away the aim assist, I can't knowingly put time into this series.
Counter strike will be my go to for competative play, until Titanfall 2 is announced for PC.

Too many issues, and mainly them saying they have dedicated server's when in fact it still chooses someone locally to host.
Ping's were inconsistent, aiming was inconsistent. ANd too many powers. Would rather they strip all that stuff away.
The greatness that was COD 4 for PC with an actual server browser and accurate mouse controls are gone and over.

I guess there's overwatch.

That was in Black Ops II first, actually. Attachment called "select fire", meaning you could actually change it during gameplay. I also find it's absence in Black Ops III saddening. No underbarrels, tac-knifes, or dual wielding either (which again is baffling considering the one thing that's featured on the cover of every game in the Black Ops series). And fewer sights. I'd like to hope that there will be more options in the full game, but I'm doubtful all the same.

Didn't like all the futuristic crap. World at War= Preorder!! Let's get back to the basic fun gameplay.

The maps weren't hit or miss. They were all awful with worse spawns than any other CoD to date. They were made with ZERO safe spawn zones, which led to constantly seeing the enemy spawn before your very screen. Other games had at worst the occasional nearby spawn, but nothing like MW3 and no where near as commonplace.

COD seems to be getting more and more bloated with every release. Last great COD for me was BLOPS.
Blops 1 had decent maps, but horrendous weapon balance. Literally no reason to use anything other than an AR or the 74u.

I went back to Black Ops 1 recently and I have to agree, though I've managed all right with the MP5. The netcode seems really bad too. I'm constantly in the 3-bar range on a 40 Mbps connection. Not to mention how each perk has 3 requirements before you can get the enhanced pro version.

map design am hard ok!

I can't imagine the bullshit features they plan on stuffing their game with to outdo blops 3. To be a fly on the wall.

I pray that the heavily negative feedback to Ghosts and the merger with Neversoft (who developed the best part of Ghosts, Extinction) allows Infinityward to make something that's halfway decent.

Tacked is not really true when you can have an advantage by using the walls and other not so obvious spots to get around. All the maps had these. Don't know how you missed them or whatever. In fact, I would wager that AW take on it is more tacked on now that Wall running have been added and spots for said running have been made with in mind.

I enjoyed the beta

It's harder to get kill streaks.

Wall running is fun,but not used by many players hence you can always get the drop on them. I do like the sliding round corners, always a nice way to surprise an enemy and stick em with a knife.

Glitch is hilarious to use on people. So many times I baffled people using it and got em.

The main problem is once I got into the steam of things I was rampaging and dominating again, that's not very fun in the long run.

If TitanFall 2 turns up next year and is multiplat and refined i.e SP story mode and more maps at launch, I think CoD could have some real competition with a lot of turned heads.

I did enjoy it, but it feels like black ops 2 a lot, which isn't a bad thing, just familiar.

I enjoyed the LMG a lot, and the war machine.

Yea, Titanfall has tons of promise. If they somehow manage to improve wall running/manueverability in general, add more weapons/attachments, maps and more content, I don't know if I'll buy another futuristic COD again.

And of course there's Halo 5 coming out which will surely tide me over until TF, but it's not really a comparable shooter.

My impression:

Can we HAVE IT ALREADY!! UGGGHHHH! This withdrawal is killing me!

This is the best COD since Black Ops 2

Yessssss

I miss it so much

The wait is killing me honestly, haven't had this feeling with cod in awhile

Gosh I need it here already...

Ehh I dont know man, I'd have to disagree here. The worst spawns I ever saw was Black ops 1 within the first month or two. Watching 2 or 3 enemies spawn in full view on Firing range in the corner of the map was incredibly bad, also Nuketown lol. I still wish I had some of my theater mode clips that showed the ridiculous spawns. I still remember the GAF thread and an overwhelming majority of hate came from 3 things: 1)Famas is overpowered, 2) 74u is overpowered, 3) Spawns are absolutely ridiculous.

Perhaps our experiences have varied but when it came to problems with MW3, seeing enemies spawn in front of you a lot wasn't any worse than the other games imo. I still play it regularly(along with 4 and MW2) on the 360 and spawning wasn't something that ever stood out to me.

My thoughts on BO3 from PS4 beta only:
Its good, a much better effort than Advanced warfare and ghosts. I was actually enjoying playing the game and getting killstreaks unlike the previous two games that devolved into BS very quickly.

Pros
+Killstreaks seem fun to use compared to the previous 2 games
+Guns have good sound
+FOOTSTEPS good god so glad for this.
+More grounded
+Quickscoping so far seems dead
+TTK is better than ghosts and closer to AW
+looking forward to gun/emblem customization in the final game, I also like how when you add an attachment/feature it shows you physically what is being modified on the gun, nice little touch.
+Wallrunning, thrust jumping, and sliding is fun when you get good at it and utilize it. Had so much fun blasting the hell out of fools with the pump shottie(when it worked) chaining these moves together.

Cons:
-Scoreboard takes too long to exit game, get rid of the "top 3 players" stuff.
-Spawns are pretty wonky but I'm hoping it gets sorted out. Hunted stands out the most with this. The initial spawn on the road next to the coastline(on the left) seems to spawn enemies right there right behind people walking by. I'd walk past that spawn into the big boulder area and two seconds later 1 or 2 enemies spawn there and get an easy kill.
-Kind of hate Combine because everyone votes for it, its a clusterfuck of a map like nuketown(which I also dont like)
-Black hat needs a nerf
-They need to fix flinching badly, also reduce stun time
-There are still problems with "shooting a guy 3-4 times but dying in 1-2 hits" that seems to be plaguing the games since Ghosts. It is definitely better than Ghosts and AW in this regard, but not a lot.

Unsure:
~Swimming is kind of weird, not sure how much I like this
~I wasnt in the XBO beta so I dont know how much they buffed/nerfed the pump shotty, but I hope they didnt screw it up royally, guess I'll find out when the game is released. I'm a MW2/MW3 Spas guy so a good pump shottie is something I like to use.

I'll add some more impressions as I remember more
