Blizzards censors paintings in World of Warcraft (ingame since Vanilla)

Token performative wokist bullshit. Who cares at this point?

At least they are highlighting the fact that most of these companies/people who do shit like this are absolutely garbage behind closed doors and doing worse shit than what they virtue signal against.

Ah reactionary "feminism" that is actually more insulting to the supposed sexism the so called "white knights" are trying to protect women from? Yeah that sounds like a Western developer idea lol

They taking tips from the Gurellia devs by chance?

I wish it was just Blizzard. Unfortunately I hear these sorts of practices are all the rage at Woke Big Tech for some reason. They literally believe these sorts of things contribute to "racial injustice" or some other delusion.
They do these little, stupid things so they don't actually have to do anything of substance. It's like these mental midgets on Twitter than spend all day, every day screeching about everything, but who don't actually do anything else. Slacktivism at its finest.

That's unfortunately the ugly truth. I feel like that at this point I am just beyond mocking and laughing but do feel disdainful about those delusional practice. I am gradually preparing myself to accept the future where I might not enjoy any big western games no more.

I can't even explain how angry this makes me..but Asmongold pretty much sums it up. I can't *stand* this type of retconning. Give me classic Lara Croft design style back, please. Stop jacking it up, Western Devs.

On one hand it's silly, on the other not really a big deal, and at the end of the day it seems like Blizzard is doing every performative gesture they can rather than getting rid of the remaining leadership who stood by and did nothing during al of the issues involving the lawsuit(s).

They actually believe this is going to help them? I regret all my time in Overwatch, and am fully glad I never touched their other games on console and pc. I played some Diablo games as well, but that was a long time ago. Overwatch was an exercise in stress even before all this stuff going on now.
My friends and I moved to Apex Legends after playing Overwatch the last few years.

I'm so happy that Blizzard are saving us from having to view the evil and vile female form. Thanks to them for being the arbiters of moral good.

At least they set their priorities straight! Fixing the game really isn't something important to work on...

This game and that company are so lost and (soon) dead.

OT: something went wrong editing this post on phone. Can someone delete me replying to myself, please?

Who cares? Who's staring at these?

in the grand scheme of things, this change makes almost no difference. A lot of players didn’t even know these paintings exist. Why people care is because these changes aren’t even close to what they need to do to fix the bro culture of their male employees. The “reclining nude” is a Renaissance staple of paintings and vanilla had a good tribute to it which they’ve now removed and made worse. It just highlights how tone deaf they are

Found this in an unrelated article:

"Eighteen months ago, well before the recent protests against systemic racism, I was approached by a colleague at Maven about the terms blacklist and whitelist. My colleague was a Black professional – a leader at the company – who, after I had given an internal presentation on our whitelisting and blacklisting strategy, asked me to have the company stop using those particular phrases.
He explained that it didn’t matter that the etymology of the terms had nothing to do with racism. The term blacklist was first used in the early 1600s to describe a list of those who were under suspicion and thus not to be trusted, he explained. But regardless of the words’ origins, my colleague went on to impress upon me the discomfort he felt everyday living in a world where black was equated with bad and white with good."

Note the bolded text. Literally nothing matters anymore.

Asmon summed it up nicely.

There’s no more suspension of disbelief in the game. The fantasy part is being stripped and replaced by the real world issues.

You look up these painting and in the past you may think that those paintings are there because the NPC who owns it put it there and has that particular taste in paintings. You look up now and that painting isn’t there because of some in-world explanation or NPC sensibilities but because Blizzard was forced to.

Made a fresh git repo in GitLab today and it fucking defaulted to having a 'main' branch which broke all my deployment pipeline stuff, surprised they didn't add a BLM.md file in the root too. World has gone bonkers, especially when it actually impacts you and creates additional work; it's like those twats who blockade motorways to protest climate change - are they even aware this is making me support them even less?

Blizzard was an incredible company, they took their sweet time, but you never had any doubts that what they released would be incredible, and the games were supported for decades and each one grew such a huge and dedicated fanbase, they had it all. It's fucking tragic when companies don't die but just slowly get eaten away from the inside; until all that is left is a husk of a once-great company, filled by just the most inept and incapable people who were not able to jump from the ship sooner.

Seems out of context for wow. But doesn’t not deserved to be in a video game. But you don’t want gta strippers all the time.

Black Temple anyone? Blood Elfs?

Sex sells in a cherry picked way?

You forget about the benefits for some companies in terms of a workforce more divided is easier to handle and easier to find reasons to fire someone if you are in a pinch.

Blizzard might as will censor and remove all women. Apparently women, the gender itself is some sort of sin. Censor women, they are witches and enchant men to fornicate, they must be covered by hijabs and replaced by bowls of fruit! We cannot allow them to show ANY skin. That’s the message I’m getting.

They also did it to Diablo 2.

I'm sure most people know about Amazon and Assassin's outfits being changed to show less skin, but even female drawings in the background have been removed.

I also noticed that succubus-type creatures have more clothing now as well... even the denizens of Hell itself are covering up! lmao

I suspect all of this is coming from PR and the legal team, so that they can say we agree whenever they get taken to court. Or to simply not look even worse when / if all of this crap is brought up against them. I doubt the developers actually believe this has any affect on anything.

Nah its worse. In the statement they made this week they said they made an internal chat channel for employees to suggest changes. So fat chicks with blue hair and male feminists working at Blizzard are the cause.

The only way to play D2R is through legacy mode actually. The upgraded graphics make everything so uninspired and bright. Contrast and atmosphere are so much better with the old graphics.

The prevalent censorship in the upgrade is damn sickening.

After D2R I don't think anyone should give Blizzard any more money.

And since you are forced to log in to Battle.net I have a feeling regardless of platform it is going to be a GaaS game that will get taken down if Blizz goes down.

It's really bizarre how American game developers are like this, other media entertainment in the US like others have pointed out is often by far more sexualized than in other countries.
The NA music industry completely blows every other country out of the water in terms of sexuality it's not even close, it's basically a competition over who can come the closest to porn without actually literally being porn.

But then you get to gaming and it's like a bunch of manbabies who think that if men see a womans ankles they'll turn into monsters.

The most infuriating thing about it is everyone handwaving it away and defending it.
'' It's not a big deal who cares '', have some fucking perspective and use your brain for once in your life holy shit.

The blue hair gang runs in nerd circles and cucks lots of betas to follow them. Most game devs are betas. Ergo the blue hairs have control over gaming in the west, but not all media. Netflix(TV) and Hollywood are only partially infected. Music is too wild to tame.
