Koji Igarashi was recently interviewed by App Trigger and I thought this was an interesting update considering how many people are in doubt over the Vita version of the game.

http://apptrigger.com/2017/06/19/bl...igarashi-talks-kickstarter-staggered-content/

AT: Can Nintendo Switch owners expect a similar level of background detail as the platform shown off in the trailers?

KI: Currently, we're not in the middle of porting to Nintendo Switch just yet, but we are starting porting to PS Vita. In comparison to that porting process, we feel confident that the environments will look pretty similar, but we can't say for sure until we really look into the Nintendo Switch specs and see what it's like building a game for it.

Hoping the Vita port will be good but I'm keeping my expectations in check. Heck, the demo they released barely ran on my PC.

Porting an UE4 game to Vita in 2018 still sounds like an unusual business decision.
But I'm interested in seeing how each version fairs

Kinda weird to announce your game for a system you haven't looked into much. But on the flipside, they have backers to please, so I guess they didn't have a choice.

It doesn't really matter when they start porting each individual version of the game. As long as all versions end up being good, and all versions release around the same time.

I'm confused as to what he is saying. He's confident it will be comparable to the Vita version? 'Cause, yeah, I'd fucking hope.

Hope this has cross-save then on PS4/Vita. Cross-Buy is probably not gonna happen though.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Do they even have Switch dev kits yet ? The answer sounds like Igarashi never saw or held a Switch in his hands lol.

It's done by armature, if you want to know how the port could end up, you should check their previous Vita jobs: Mortal Kombat and Injustice. Visuals took a small hit but both were the exact same versions of the console counter parts. With stable framerate, of course.

Those were also PS360 games running on a supported engine (UE3).

Well inti creates are handling development duties aren't they? They've been releasing Switch titles since March.

That's one of the flaws of kickstarter. You raise goals for platforms that are popular at the time of the kickstarter, but by the time the game is actually done alot of those platforms are no longer viable and are holding back the platforms that are most important.

I'm glad that the Vita port is still happening... but the porting has just started? WTH?
I guess it has to do with the fact that the game itself is still early and the port isn't done by them.

Ehh small hit might be more than a bit charitable.

Lots of kickstarters cancelled their Wii U versions, including Bloodstained. They could easily drop Vita if they actually wanted to.

I thought there was no way in hell they would port to vita after they canceled the Wii U version. Guess I was wrong.

Porting an ue4 game should go a lot smoother on Switch compared to vita.

The reason a lot of them cancelled Wii U is because they had the excuse to release it on the upcoming Nintendo console. But there's no Vita successor, so I expect this one to be like Mighty n9 Vita and 3DS version.

I admittedly don't follow KS as much as others but I'm fairly sure the amount of games that swapped Wii U for Switch are smaller than the amount of games which just dropped Wii U altogether.

Cross-save would be nice. I also hope they still intend to include "second screen" support, so that the Vita could be used in conjunction with the PS4 game.

We have started porting to a dead platform, and haven't started on a booming platform...

Makes no sense

Just focus on PS4 and Switch, develop the others after it's released, or give it to a porting house.

That is up to Armature apparently. http://www.armature.com/2015/06/12/bloodstained-ue4-code-clarification/

So it's sort of out of the hands of the main development studio, but apparently the code base for UE4 for the Vita version is apparently done without support / as-is.

Err that is exactly what is happening.

IGA and his team have said from the very beginning that the PC, PS4 and XBO versions are to be developed in-house and the Vita / Switch (formerly Wii-U) versions were to be outsourced to Armature. See link above.

Open the article to check the context. I read it as it will be comparable to the console PC versions, rather than the Vita version which they've started porting and discovered it needs a lot of cutting back.

Armature did not port Mortal Kombat. In addition to Injustice they also ported Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and The Unfinished Swan, both of which were great.

Btw OP, credit to Takao for finding this article and posting it to Vita subreddit this morning lol. Wonder why he didn't post a thread on it himself.

Yeah I really hope no WiiU or now Switch owners were looking forward to this. Only talking about specs at this point? WTF!? Prioritizing a Vita version? Not done in house? I expect whatever comes out to be disappointing at best or straight trash at worse given how things seem to handled. A likely up port of the Vita version!? No thanks. Pure BS.

Why first to Vita then to switch?

WHY?

No you are not. Vita sales have dropped like a rock this year
Becaus Vita was announced far earlier, maybe they were anticipating Switch port to be easier so they are just focusing on the Vita first

What do people think of the game so far? It looks like a pretty spot on recreation of the DS castlevania games, but I've heard people are wary of it? Can't see why. From the menus, to the monsters, to the weapons, to the gameplay, it looks so similar.

Also, I think they would be smarter to get the Switch version out first. That's where his fan base is at, in the west.

The movement isn't as fluid as the DS titles, that's my first hot take.

Our interview and gameplay footage should go live soon ish.

People are mostly worried about the graphics/animation/art direction. wich admitedly its a bit underwhelming even compared to those DS games, the game looks a bit crude but hopefully will shape into something better next year

I don't think it reasonable to expect IGA and his team to do development duties beyond their planned scoped from the initial announce this far in active development. This is exactly why Comcept's Mn9 was so mismanaged when they decided to take on every single version themselves, and not outsource the handheld versions to a porting studio.

If they worked on the game in-house then they would have to work around a baseline for the other versions as well, at the time the Switch was just announced under the NX name, a time when active development for Bloodstained which was already underway wouldn't be considered.

At least in the case for Bloodstained the game won't be compromised because of divided attention and the porting studio can do their job independently, letting IGA's studio focus entirely on the main platform versions.

At the end of the day. We all want the best version of Bloodstained without compromise regardless of platform. Having a repeat Mn9 without outsourcing or porting studio involved would never allow this to happen.

So much for Vita version being cancelled, as some on here were adamant was going to happen.

Looks like the talk has now turned to apparent bitterness over... the long promised Vita version being worked on before the recently announced Switch version? Not a good look for some of you.

I'm actually curious to see how this version is more than any of the others. Has there been any other UE4 games on Vita?

It was never said if Armature would be handling the Switch version or not I believe. Inti coukd be doing it inhouse as well since it natively supports UE4.
