Hate is deserving. His one redeeming factor is Deadpool.

I'm not a huge deadpool fan, but I'm pretty sure all the character quirks that make the character popular weren't put there by Liefield, it was later writers adding new dimensions. As far as design goes,

I always felt like he looked pretty spider-manish.

aww.. I was hoping if they ever did "Black 2" they would built some new next gen engine for the game...one that can compete with Frostbite and Red Faction engine, as far as destruction.

...and is an original IP using the company's impressive EGO engine, seen in racers like Race Driver: GRID and Colin McRae: DiRT as well as the recent Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

how impressive was the EGO engine again?....it didn't seem to translate well for consoles, I don't remember Flashpoint looking that impressive.

So is this a "sequel" to Black? I thought Black was planned as a trilogy...? Whatever - still interested so long as there is a PS3 version.

Operation Flashpoint was fairly decent on the 360 and a disaster on the PS3.

Black had amazing explosions (still superior to many current-gen games) and shooting was pretty satisfying - as long as you were shooting the environments and not the enemies. Black always felt like it was a contradiction in design; they hyped it endlessly as balls-out gun porn, but playing it as a run-and-gun would get you nowhere. Progress required methodical lining up of head shots instead of holding down the trigger and just letting lead fly. A shame, since the weapons looked and sounded great, with little touches like having 2 different reload animations per weapon - one quick one for when you were under fire, and an extended one for quieter moments.

Also, as already mentioned, terrible checkpoint placement and pretentious, film school-dropout level cinematics that were unskippable to boot.

It's not Black 2, but I'll reserve my judgment until see some footage. Hype go.

Black was an awesome game. Haters gonna hate it seems.

Due to all the talk regarding Black recently, I purchased it on Live for 20 dollars (I remember being impressed by the demo last gen) - biggest waste of money in a long time for me.

Oooh! Oooh! How about?

Headshot
Double Kill
Multikill
Fraged
Rocket Jump

I actually wouldn't mind the last one though.
Deathmatch

It's our final destination.

Also Black is terrible and was shit even back then. Really looking forward to this one.

I expect monotinous shooting gallery gameplay that will earn a fanbase for its pretty visuals and big explosions and adrenalin rush gameplay, but will ultimately fall on deaf ears for people wanting something fresh.

Prove me wrong Black. Prove me wrong.

I wonder if it will have the same game breaking "I can take as many clips as you like, but I won't take damage until this stagger animation has finished" shit bug as the first game.

I honestly can't understand why anyone thought the first game was worth shit.

Very impressive. Grid and Dirt 2 are among the most impressive looking games i've seen this gen (and they both feature 4XAA on x360 at least).

I am not sure how it translates to other genres though: the little i've seen of Flashpoint looked rather underwhelming.

Ah Rob Liefield.... why people still give you money is beyond me

Best hands drawn on planet earth.

80 heads in Guildford is expensive. This game is getting the full AAA budget treatment it seems. Black was excessive fun and if they can take the beginning of what they did on Black and give it the 20x treatment, this could be very interesting indeed.

Yeah, pretty much. It has the same director and with a name like Bodycount its reasonable to expect it to be an FPS in a similar style.

From what I understand, Black 2 was planned for PS3/360 for a while but at one point or another the project fell apart. My guess is that Criterion didn't have enough time/resources to develop it while they were working on Burnout Paradise. And now that they're in charge of the NFS series it seems doubtful that they would be working on something else anytime soon, which is probably why Stuart Black jumped ship.

Also, I fully support random Rob Liefeld hate.

Awesome! If they have productions values as high as Black (in context for this gen) than I'll be super happy.

Might be an alien but Black is my favorite FPS last gen. I loved it because it was pure gun porn. Shooting, stuff break, explosions, a mindless and visceral experience. Since can't care less about multiplayer, the fact it was missing didn't make a dent on my experience.

So I hope this new game is mindless shooting. I'm a Doom son and it's really hard to please my FPS taste theses days with all those fancy almost story-based shooters, realistic war games and such bullshit.

How does production value make the game great when the actual gameplay was broken ?

If I like shooting guns in games, then I'm going to love this? That's what they said Black was going to be like and it was hella boring.

I remembered being impressed by the visuals in the trailers, but once the controller was in my hands and I was actually playing the game it just wasn't fun for me at all. I should have known it was going to be boring when in the trailers whoever was playing was just constantly holding down the fire button..

I just mean I wish for a game that isn't cheaply made. Also, Black wasn't broken at all for me it was simply awesome. And given a game is good, it quite automatically becomes even better if there's better production values (better visuals, better sounds, more polish, etc)

Yeah, exactly.

Yeah. I'm really sick and tired of people saying B-B-BUT DEADPOOL! whenever people want to save Liefeld, forgetting that it was other people that help created the Deadpool you people love (and nowadays he feels like a cash cow like his buddy/enemy Wolverine).

The personality is what keeps him from being a lame ripoff.

Is namedropping Black supposed to be a good thing? It was short, repetitive and boring as fuck. All namedropping Black does is lower my interest level to complete apathy.

That's like saying Transformers 2 was a good movie.

Black was broken, and a waste of time.

OT: The cover looks a little generic but I have faith in the Black creators because that game is awesome!

I've played through countless times and have never experienced any issues that can't be blamed on anything else but my aging PS2 phatty. Maybe I'm just lucky?

A Rob Liefeld inspired FPS would be hilarious. Ammo counts into the tens of thousands thanks to your pouches, slow walking speed due to your tiny feet, midget sized enemies next to yor 1000lbs nine foot tall character, NPCS switching hair styles and costume everytime you look away, and a field of view that 80 percent filled by your super sized toaster guns.

Lets do this, Codemasters.
