how is bond 50 anyway. transfer quality good and stuff?

I'm sure there is a huge amount of variability between the movies. There are too many factors at work. Print damage, cameras used, digital negatives, artistic vision, DNR application.

Owned a few already, but I had to pull the trigger on this one.

bronsman is the most stylish. Who is the third guy from the right? He is the second good. Craig does not try to be bond.

Can't overstate how much I love this collection. Beautiful packaging and good to great transfers for the most part; the older movies looked gorgeous, especially.

There's even a slot open for when Skyfall releases on home video. Attention to the motherfucking details.

Okay, that's awesome.

I bought one...had $60 in Amazon gift cards so this put me out $40.

I hate that they are still making bond movies so not every film will be in the set. the fact that this is missing skyfall annoys me greatly.

I can see this...you're a completist...but as mentioned above they left an empty slot for SkyFall which is pretty awesome. Then you'll be current for another 3-4 years.

They leave a spot for Skyfall.

A very wise person convinced me that this boxset is for the FIRST FIFTY YEARS of Bond, and in that regard it will always be complete.

So I knew I just HAD to buy ;)

Here's a review on Amazon regarding this...I wouldn't let that scare you off though:

Just some notes on the various blu-rays. This could have and should have been a perfect set, but it's not. MGM doesn't care..they know you'll buy anyway...

Dr. No - Overall nice quality blu-ray. Colors have been driven more towards naturalistic than originally done
From Russia With Love - Overall nice quality blu-ray. Colors have been driven more towards naturalistic than originally done

Goldfinger - The gold is gone. Why screw with the color? The scene where she's painted gold has lost its golden touch and has been moved towards a more natural color. Yes, she's gold, but the original scene had a golden tint all around

Thunderball - Some color changes and slight damage, DNR, fake grain

You Only Live Twice - Original colors are lost and it's largely brown.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Contrast boosted way too much. Also, original colors are lost and it's largely brown. Audio issues on both the mono (Muffled in spots) and remix.

Diamonds Are forever - Changes in color and lack of detail. Original colors are lost--it's lost its "glimmer" and is largely brown now. Desaturated. Also, the scene where a cigarette is put out in Bond's chest isn't supposed to show the ashtray until he stands up, as seen in the original theatrical prints--the scene is supposed to be much darker

Live and Let Die - Okay blu-ray
The Man with the Golden Gun - Okay blu-ray, colors off
The Spy Who Loved Me - Excellent blu-ray
Moonraker - slightly squeezed and window-boxed main title sequence, okay otherwise

For Your Eyes Only - Fine blu-ray

Octopussy - Excessive edge enhancement

A View to a Kill - Image is misframed/cropped. Also, during an earthquake scene, the image/camera was supposed to shake. Lowry stabilized the image so that it doesn't shake anymore--poor attention to what they were doing. Too much DNR.

The Living Daylights - Excellent blu-ray.
Licence to Kill - Decent blu-ray

Goldeneye - Extreme use of DNR takes away the film grain, and therefore the detail contained within the grain. MGM used an old, outdated master from a few years ago. Think of how bad the original release of Patton looked... the line "You were expecting someone else?" missing from trailer

Tomorrow Never Dies - Excellent blu-ray
The World is Not Enough - Excellent blu-ray
Die Another Day - Excellent blu-ray

Casino Royale - Excellent blu-ray, but it's the North American edited version, not the uncut version

Quantum of Solace - Excellent blu-ray

Shit, now I need to get home from work so I can check it out. 8 hours to go :(

Do you have a smart phone? It's incredibly easy to order through the Amazon app. It's almost too easy, I spend so much money with only three touches of the screen ;_;

Thank you OP. I bought this yesterday at BB for $130, and I'll be returning it today. My mom loves Bond and I was really hoping for a sale on this for a Christmas gift for her.

I hate that the Goldfinger and Goldeneye transfers are off.

I think I'm going to hold off for the inevitable restorations and remasters.

Can't think of a more perfect thing to get now that they don't really do the 7 days of Bond on TNT or other channels during the holidays anymore.

When I bought mine last night, it said there were only 37 left in stock. Not surprised it got cashed out for the Saturday deal before Saturday even really happened.

I just doublechecked and yes - all the movies that had been previously released on Blu-Ray: These are the exact same discs. The only "new" things in this set are the 9 movies that had never made it to Blu, and the bonus disc. Otherwise, you can read about how good/bad the transfers are by reading reviews for the 13 previously released films. By now, most Blu-Ray review sites (Digital Bits, Blu-Ray.com) have probably looked at the other 9.

Hmm...my wife wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas, and I was at a loss. This just might do it.

Edit: Crap, looks like it sold out. Hopefully there is another sale soon.

.........Well fuck.

And I was expecting it in the mail today.

EDIT: They refunded me the $99.99 and gave me $100 promotional credit in compensation.

My order got in today too and the set is absolutely fantastic. The packaging is really nice and, having only watched Goldeneye so far, that movie looked fantastic. The spot in there for Skyfall was also a nice surprise for me as I didn't know about it before getting the set. It's a nice touch.

Very, very pleased with this set.

I hate that the Goldfinger and Goldeneye transfers are off.

I think I'm going to hold off for the inevitable restorations and remasters.

I'm by no means an expert but Goldeneye looked great to me throughout. If that's a "bad" transfer in the context of this set then I'm going to be over the moon when I watch the good ones.

Timothy Dalton

He's third from the left. Moore is third from the right.

It looks awful to me. I wish I had your standards. :(

I'm curious about the placeholder for Skyfall - is there going to be some sort of mail-in-offer for box-set purchasers to get the disc by itself or are we just supposed to buy the regular blu-ray, take it out of the case, chuck the case (nice big plastic waste) and store it in the box set?

This is weird and anal, but I don't like the idea of keeping a box for Skyfall on my shelf solely to hold a special features disc.

Anyone who was weird and anal wouldn't own Bond 50. Non-standard packaging FTL
But I'm pretty sure that's what you have to do.

I've just bought the 1967 Casino Royale blu-ray separately; now I have so many Bond films, I might as well have them all, dubious canonicity be damned! It's still a legal adaptation of the novel by the people who held the rights at the time. Looks nuts! I'm going to have to get Never say Never Again if that comes out too.
