It would be easy to dismiss Bound as being yet another artsy game developed by hipsters that doesn’t play as “cool” as the latest shootybang

That doesn't sound like the reviewer has some sort of bitter predisposition against AAA. /s

Bound isn’t there for people who want to mash a bunch of buttons before declaring how great the are for mashing the buttons better or faster than the other guys. Bound isn’t going to be an eSport, and doesn’t really care about that. Nor is Bound for people looking to unwind after a hard day’s work with passive entertainment. There’s nothing wrong with games being either of those things, but Bound is for a third audience; it’s for the people that want something thoughtful, meaningful, and intelligent.

Get over yourself, dude. Artsy games are accepted fine (maybe even better than AAA) in the current climate. You're not some snowflake.

hm I played the demo of this game at a store month ago, nice looking game but it quickly turned boring =/

the platforming felt like a walking simulator and there was no combat etc in the demo. is there combat in this game?

Looks like it's the developer's best reviewed game yet. Which is good, because Linger in Shadows and Datura didn't do much for me.

Finished it last week and it was incredible. I love indie games and played a lot of them but Bound is just out of this world. Fantastic experience.

Well that's all over the place...

Not really. 7/10 seems to be where it falls mostly. Seems an aight enough artsy Journey-inspired gamey thing that doesn't really offer the transcending experience of its betters.

LOL yeah. It's an embarrassing read.

I liked it, it just seems to be a bit confused. The animations are amazing, and the environments really draw you in, but the level design is so boring, and it really fails as a platformer.

Which is fine, but then it unlocks a speedrun mode and wants you to play through it again to get fast times, which seems completely at odds with everything else it's trying to achieve.

I dunno. For as much as it resonated with me, I found myself tuning out from the gameplay because I just wanted to get to the next story nugget.

Here's my review anyway if you're interested in more impressions from me: http://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps4/bound

(Thanks for linking it OP)

Here's my bottom line:

( 8/10, PlayStation Universe)

Bound is a vague but undeniably powerful game. Its sweeping environments and spellbinding aesthetic invite you to look closer, appreciate its story, and find meaning through your own interpretation. The gameplay beneath is pleasant (if unremarkable) and dutifully supports the greater aim of giving the player something to reflect on. If that level of engagement suits you, Bound is one of PS4’s best games. If not, there’s still a resonant message to take away, though its brief journey left me pining for more time with the dancer in her beautiful, strange world.

Said simply, you'll love this if you've dug other plot-heavy indies with metaphors open to interpretation. But it's VERY short, and doesn't have the gameplay polish of, say, Journey or ICO (which this clearly honors).

How long is this? Is this a game you finish in one sitting?

I'm still on the fence with this much like I was with Abzu. I loved Abzu and I'm wondering if I should take a chance on this as well, gahh

The intro of Eurogamer's review put me off this game immediately. I have no patience for elaborate control schemes these days and this seems to have one

A couple of hours maximum. Without spoiling anything, though, there is reason to replay.

Judging from the videos I've seen, it seems like a "hold left and watch cool shit happen" game.

Is it more than that? Is there any gameplay skill needed here?

Apologies in advance - I haven't read any of the reviews yet.

I have the game ordered due to that play promotion.

But now I'm wondering whether I should hold off till PSVR is out to play this.

I know a replay of this game is likely not going to be the same as the initial playthrough due to the various paths and apparently there's a procedural aspect as well. But still.

I have it preordered. I am going to give my wife a chance to play it. She is a dancer/dance teacher so if there was ever a video game she could get into this might be it (She doesnt play anything).

Game's been in my basket for days but I've been hesitant to take the plunge. The complaints about dull level design have now put me off sadly. Too bad because the aesthetics look incredible.

But holy shit that Digitally Downloaded review reads like some next level self-indulgent masturbatory dreck. Writer needs to chill.

From the Videogamer review...

The 10 per cent of the game that isn't spent as a ballerina, which I haven't talked about, certainly makes Bound a game that will get people talking.

Soooo tempted to spoil myself on this.

Astoundingly smug review by someone writing for a mostly no-name site. I had to wipe the condescension off my phone screen after reading it.

This game is so appealing to me aesthetically that I'm interested purely on a visual level, but it's great to see it getting some positive overall reviews.

Sounds like an improvement over Datura, at least.

In retrospect, I feel like Datura would have been better off as a VR project.
