BREAKING: Magnitude 7.3 earthquake strikes off Fukushima region of Japan, US Geological Service says.

Will update accordingly as more news comes in .

Japanese authorities warned of an imminent tsunami just over three feet high for the Fukushima region after a major earthquake off the country's coast.

The earthquake measured 7.6 on the Richter scale, by some accounts.

The Fukushima region is home to the nuclear reactor devastated in 2011's earthquake.

Hope everything is alright, I know the Tokyo Electric Power Company has been mismanaging the Fukushima Plant disaster since it happened.

Looking at the USGS earthquake map, the epicenter seems to be further out than the 2011 quake. Not sure if or how that will affect potential tsunami activity though.

EDIT: The map

Looks like Japanese coast is in clear as of this moment, a 1M tsunami was expected about five minutes ago and there is no sign of one.

Hopefully nothing comes of this.

The way the Japanese government has handled this is absolutely shameful. Obfuscation of a nuclear plant disaster is something that should not take place.

Anyways, I hope this out-of-the-blue quake doesn't cause the situation to escalate further.

What 'evidence' would he see? The ocean slowly swells until it crushes everything inland.

It's not like a Bugs Bunny cartoon where a 30 foot wave crashes ashore.

It was expected to hit a few minutes ago, but there's no evidence of it hitting yet. So that's what he's reporting on.

That's kinda how it was 2.5 years ago :p

Damn =/ Really hope this does not further complicate things as it relates to the plant, but it probably will.
