So this video randomly showed up on my YouTube suggestions. This is what Brie Larson means by being more inclusive. She's a girl from India who does comedy sketches, no interviews with stars. She gets very high view counts though, sometimes millions. No doubt if she had more opportunities to be involved in these interviews she'd jump at the chance.

How can anyone think this is a bad thing? This girls life was changed because of this movie.
Because she potentially displaced someone else based on nothing more than her race and gender. Maybe she’s the right choice, but we won’t know because the well is poisoned by people trying to flip the script.

Yeah... something tells me I shouldn't trust her review of this movie

The movie studios only do this of course for movies that feature minority groups. They would never do this under any circumstances,
Are you sick? It's as if you don't want minority led movies to succeed. Dude get a life!

they should let the bad "trolls" review rock. its some bitch shit to take down anything. it always has been and it always will be. if you have half a brain you could see whats happening. if you actually cared for the content of the reviews youd read them. taking down anything like that is fucking weak
No they aren't going to let "trolls" dictate the PR coverage of a movie, when they are clearly trolling. The trolls should create their own website that gets 250,000 hits a day to create their troll campaigns.

Yeah... something tells me I shouldn't trust her review of this movie
She's just interviewing them. Do you read every review by people that interview the actors of movies? If so that's weird.

The thing is they should succeed because they are good movies not because they are minority led movies. Like a Balde for example. Like Bad Boys, Like Leathal Weapon
Ummm...., but they did succeed because they are good movies. Both Black Panther and Captain Marvel were reviewed well to great and earned massive money. Not sure what else those movies have to do to prove to you that they were well received.

Looks like Hollywood is ready for the online Troll fight going forward.

Trolls Targeted ‘Captain Marvel,’ But Disney Was Ready for Them
Film studios are taking a more aggressive approach to countering online criticism.

Trolls seem hellbent on driving those numbers down. They’re a relatively recent phenomenon, a loose organization of men dedicated to policing the culture. Having achieved success using social media to hound female gamers and journalists during the so-called Gamergate of the earlier 2010s, they moved on to politics and now cinema.

The attacks have gotten so bad that Rotten Tomatoes took the step last week of prohibiting user reviews before a movie’s release, an attempt to prevent trolls from torpedoing a film. (Actual film critics have responded favorably to “Captain Marvel”: It currently has an 83 percent rating on the site and is “certified fresh.) Disney has plenty of experience dealing with the onslaught. Executives and strategists try to keep their tactics under the radar, and Disney declined to provide an executive to comment on its tactics. But the studio’s answer to the online hate is there for all to see on the internet.

Last year, trolls zeroed in on “Black Panther” and its groundbreaking African-American cast. Facebook groups tried to target the Rotten Tomatoes scores of the movie, posting negative comments to depress the online index that some moviegoers use to gauge whether the film is worth seeing. Facebook took the pages down, while Twitter tackled fake reports of racially motivated violence at screenings. The movie went on to become the highest-grossing superhero movie ever screened in U.S. and Canadian theaters.

Some digital-marketing specialists recommend leaving it to the fans of the movies to correct any negative discourse, rather than having the companies intervene. But studios have made countering online barrages a priority. In 2019, digital ad spending in the entertainment industry will be an estimated $6.64 billion, up from $3.45 billion in 2016, according to researcher EMarketer. Spending on digital has risen from a maximum of 10 percent of the overall marketing budget to, in some cases, half the funds for a movie campaign, Pertschuk said. Likewise, the number of teams at the major Hollywood studios dedicated to countering online trolling has swollen from just a handful to as many as 40, said Marc Karzen, lead strategist at RelishMix, which tracks online activity and advises studios on tactics. “The studios are much more experienced in dealing with these wildfires that spike up,” Karzen said. “If the movie is great, you have to stick to your guns.”

I'm happy to read that Hollywood will not allow trolls to dictate the terms of how some movies will be perceived and spoken about.

I'm glad you're happy about mega-corporations silencing the voice of the consumer so that only the voices of the shills can be heard. Maybe in the future we can simply defer all ratings and reviews of films to an ethnically and gender diverse group hand-picked by the studio to avoid any risk of bias getting into the review scores, while legally mandating that any film with a trans, female, disabled or ethnic minority lead only ever receive a rating of 80%+ so as to really show those trolls who's boss. I look forward to your corporate future comrade.

This sounds like a movie I'd like to see.

A Marvel crossover with Troll Hunter. Cpt Carol is in Norway visiting Brigadier Sir Nils Olav to learn some new military strategies. Then while enjoying a fish supper is attacked by Giant Trolls. Luckily Walt Disney's cryogenically frozen and revived head flies back from the future to save the day. Nils would of course steal the show.

Again this is not a sign of quality. And if you actually look at the reviews the reviews that have great scores do not even talk much about the movie itself but about the imortance and the political bullshit behind it. I saw critics calling other critics racist because they did not like Black Panther. Movie critics which sadly still have a huge influence can manipulate peoples opinion and desire to watch this. In Germany where we do not have this obession with race was the movie decent at best from the audience and critics. And the same shit did happen here.

Some people call them trolls like my Government is now people calling trolls for being against Article 13 and the new Copyright law which will censor the internet in drastic ways. But yes all people not liking the movie and telling it is the worst marvel movie are now suddendly trolls because of reasons they do not agree with.

I don't know about Germany, but by every measure that we use in America to see if a movie is good, both Captain Marvel and Black Panther cross those "T's" and dots those "i's".

You are happy that the voices that fight against pushing ideology down our throats are being silenced?

I guess you are the only troll here.

Captain Marvel is a motion picture in which the lead protagonist flies through space & shoots laser beams from her hands. If that "product" warrants a silencing of critics, then those who espouse that sort of militant corporate fascism are truly lost souls.

I mean hello @ Disney? It's just a f*cking fantasy kiddie flick.

Ideology down your throats? Geez, that sounds harsh. I'm not sure how anything was being pushed down your throat.

I think the average age of MCU moviegoers is well above the age of "kids".

And what about the mental age? I only half jest here, i.e. both extremes (hate versus fanatic defense force) can be clearly defined as immature reactions to what is nothing more than the one millionth Hollywood fantasy science fiction movie which will be forgotten in a few weeks. Roll on the next hype machine.

I agree with the bolded, but I don't think this movie will be forgotten in a few weeks. Mainly due to Cap. Marvel potentially meaning alot to the MCU in "EndGame" and potentially in the MCU Phase 4.

To be fair, you're not talking about heroes here, you're talking about people who are aggressively reviewing a movie they didn't fucking watch. I don't often agree with Brie Larson and most of all I think she's far too antagonistic, but there's got to be a better middle ground between her and turbo virgin neckbeards who storm review aggregator websites.

The ideal movie is something that I can't promise. But I can promise you are already inside one. You gotta either help or let it go the Captain Marvel's movie. So take some cover. Grab the stick of truth. And don't forget: you have to hit them in the head or kneecap them. You may ask who? Then I'd probably answer: who knows but you'll know when they come.

"A few weeks" would be longer than any single Marvel movie has lasted in the public consciousness. They're fun movies but by the time you're walking to your car you've already forgotten most of what happened.

Probably wait till this is on streaming Service to watch. Nothing to do with Larson's comments. Nothing in the trailers really grabbed or intrigued me.

Critics and other people literally called people racist because they did not like the movie.
Disliking Captain America is fine but giving it 0's and 1's is factually incorrect. Anyone seriously scoring it that low has either not seen very many movies in their lives (which is sad) or they have an agenda. There are literally hundreds of movies that are shittier than Captain Marvel but rated higher. We live in an age of hyperbole, something is either a 1 or a 10.

So Disney and other film studios hire people to essentially write fake positive reviews and other nonsense to "counter the trolls." And they are being cheered😂

This is wrong. Infinity War is still talked about and referenced to this day.
Go outside. No one is talking about Infinity War who isn't paid to be or just like, I don't know, in high school. None of these films are lasting works, which I'm not knocking--popcorn movies are fun and its not like Hollywood is doing any better with serious dramas--but if you think the culture at large gives any kind of shit about Marvel movies beyond just getting out of the house for a night then I have a videogame to sell you.

Nah, crossover with Thor.

Carol gets punched into orbit early on. The rest of the movie is Thor smacking the crap out of everyone.

I give it a 9/10. Loses a point for having Captain Marvel in it.

Yes, people are so uninvested in the MCU films that they make billions of dollars around the world. Popcorn flicks have been around forever but the MCU is the only franchise with constant billion dollar sellers on their hand. So far they have 6, a 7th is in the oven right now and an 8th releases in April.

I go outside and I don't hear anyone talking about 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, North By Northwest, Slumdog Millionaire, Schindler's List, The Pianist, Raging Bull or Casablanca either. All great films but the general populous does not care about them, only film critics, film buffs and people in film school. Genera people generally talk about the popcorn flicks.

Honestly its something that should have happened a long time ago. Captain Marvel is hardly the first movie to ever be attacked like this and it won't be the last. Studios and the various review sites should have been doing this long before Captain Marvel or Black Panther.

Also the whole "No User Reviews until after the movie officially releases" should have been a thing all along. No idea how they are only just now figuring out that was a dumb idea on their part lol

Hatred was a great video game, it just got “review bombed”.

Who knew?
Just decided to look that game up and this is what I got from the Steam page

Hatred fills your whole body. You’re sick and tired of humanity’s worthless existence. The only thing that matters is your gun and the pure Armageddon that you want to unleash. You will go out for a hunt, and you will clear the New York outskirts of all humans with cold blood. You will shoot, you will hurt, you will kill, and you will die. There are no rules, there is no compassion, no mercy, no point in going back. You are the lord of life and death now - and you have full control over the lives of worthless human scum.

Only brutality and destruction can cleanse this land. Only a killing spree will make you die spectacularly and go to hell.

Yeah......can't imagine why it got negative reviews. /s

It got bad reviews because its a bad game and thats without even getting into its disgusting premise. Black Panther and Captain Marvel didn't get bad reviews because they are bad movies. They got review bombed because right wing trolls couldn't handle "SJW" movies which is funny because neither of them are that.

There is a difference between the two situations. And yes I am sure there are plenty of very real reviews from people who genuinely didn't like the movie, but its kind of hard to find them in the clusterfuck of troll posts from people who never even saw the movie.

Just a quick one for the guys supporting the authoritarianism of corporate America. I'm sure you're delighted those guys are batting for your team right now but just remember this when they change sides and block YOUR freedom of expression.

I used to think in terms of the end rather than the means. I cheered the entryism that got Labour a properly socialist leader in the UK. Then I saw entryism break something I loved. My point is that if you allow something bad to happen that's in your side's favour, your complaints will be much more hollow when it goes against you, and if you have an ounce of self reflection you'll regret choosing to support the immoral but expedient when you could have taken the longer route of arguing your side's position and done less harm.

They were reviewed well for political reasons, otherwise they are bland nothing movies.
