I can understand confusion if it's the first you've heard of it. Eventually you'll get over it. Some people get the urge to jump from tall buildings or extreme heights, like I do. They know what will happen, but some part of them wants to deal with the fear, or maybe confirm reality in a way. We'd never jump, but it would be a real trip if we did, and instead of falling we didn't leave a bloody mess on the ground below.

These people are tired of living in fear of disease and see people living with the disease every day, and so they decide to abandon all caution and live "free" etc. Unprotected sex, no fear of dying, no need for caution, just living life and enjoying unrestrained physical excess. Then they probably get HIV and feel slightly dumb, but then their work is cut out for them. Trying to stay alive, etc, until they die...

Just another strange thing that humans do. I blame stress and anxiety, and denial. If your head exploded like a bullet went through it instead of just disintegrating from the inside, you'd find a lot less people playing suicidal sexuality.


edit: that one dude looks like he's writing sexfiction though. I guess talking about doing drugs and having unprotected sex? Eh. People are weird, maybe fantasizing about it gets it out of their system.

I would guess that many stories posted on highly specific fetish forums are outright fantasies or at least embellished to heighten the aspects that are exciting to that community.

Not to say that bugchasing is or isn't real. There is probably someone, somewhere who has been a bugchaser, but as for whether it's really a trend... I don't know. It's got the catchy, memetic properties of a good urban legend and that could certainly enhance people's perceptions of its reality.

This has been around for ages; I believe the psychological root of this is a twisted sense of taking control and ownership of what bug catchers considers to be an inevitable infection of HIV.

I work at a dental office that has more than a few HIV patients, they all look/seem perfectly normal; but what person in their right mind would want that shadow hanging over them every day for the rest of their (shortened) life? The appeal of purposely destroying one's body in the long term for short term joy makes no sense to me.
