I just got home from one of my local EB Stores and its the first time I've been in one in about 3-4 months. They have this 3 ring binder where you can write your name and number and be the first to get a call for the day they start taking PS3 and Revolution pre-orders. This isn't a pre-order list specifically, its just a list of the order they will call and let you know when you can pre-order. I'm almost laughing at the absurdity of having to sign a pre-pre-order list. Apparently this doesn't guarantee you any kind of spot in the pre-order line for the day they start taking pre-orders. I fully expect people will actually have to camp out just to get on the pre-order list and be in a spot where you'll actually get one on launch day.

The PS3 list had 23 signatures and phone numbers already. The Revolution list had 3 or 4. Anyway, I camped out at Target and got an Xbox360 at launch, but I'll never do anything like that again. I'm starting to realize that maybe I'm just not that goddamn hardcore anymore and the absurdity of all this pre-order, camping, try-ebay, bullshit is just becoming more laughable to me by the day.

I was just thinking that same thing. I'm surprised EB Games didn't take the opportunity to rape a few wallets by making people put down money just to get on the pre-pre-order list.

I'm on that list at all my local EB/Gamestops. Yes it's crazy, but after the 360 fiasco you can bet I will be in line when they open to put my 50 down.

I got my call list, its called GAF and whenever Sony announces something like date or price or both. This place will have an "I preordered a PS3" thread pretty quick.

I won't camp. If it comes to that, I'll just camp at Wal-mart like I did (successfully) for the 360. Isn't the whole point of preorders so that you don't have to camp?

The word pre-order gets completely re-defined for gaming hardware launched.

In a normal world, pre-ordering exactly means you don't have to camp.

But try telling that to the people who were 9th or below on the 360 pre-order list. I was number 14 and didn't get one so I got a refund and camped Target. This is why I think its getting to the point where you'll have to camp for your pre-order spot. If you're not in the first 10 or so names on the list, you've got no shot of getting one on launch day.

Somehow I don't think Sony is going to make the same mistake as M$ and have a massive hardware shortage this November. Plus with the possible $400 to $500 price tag it's not going to be on everyone's Xmas list.

My local Gamestop manager swears up and down it's going to be $500 and that stores will only be taking a $100 deposit on them. He's waiting for official confirmation for pre-orders to begin

Check it every day. When you see a thread title "Hey GAF, I preordered my PS3/Revolution!" then you got your call. Probably faster then your local EB calling you too, they are getting lazy as hell. I have to call them lately to see if a game I preordered came in or not and so far its been 4 out 5 times there. 2 of which were the day after they got there.

My EB and GS have both already been doing this for a while. Luckily I'm in good at my GS, I'll basically be at the top of the list after the employees.

I'm surprised people are shocked at this. A few years ago, GameStop used to be super big hyper call list crazy. There were a few months when they pushed call lists over reservations and managers had to count up call list totals and transmit them to be tracked. I don't think the concept ever completely went away, so it shouldn't be surprising something like this exists for the PS3.

The manager at the GS near me said it isn't coming out until next Summer and will cost 700 bucks. I told him I didn't believe either as he told me in December, a week before I got my 360 at Best Buy, that I wouldn't be able to get one until March.
