Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Specialist Prophet revealed to be gay.

I wonder how stuff like this effects peoples choice of the character.

Will there be less people playing as said character because they don't want to play as a gay character.

Or will more people play as them because they want to play as the gay character.

Or

Nothing, nothing at all happens.

What kind of gay? Like sibilant ‘s’es and $200 haircut gay? Or Ernst Rohm rip-the-arms-off-enemies gay?

Like frag x3 cod4 gay.

Theres no counter to his special abilities other than wasting a perk slot with tac mask.

Cool, I guess? Why does this matter? It is never brought up in the game, never hinted at, and serves zero purpose outside of virtue signaling.

Do you know how to make a good character? Go look at The Last of Us or NieR: Gestalt/Replicant. Those are how you write good characters.

Something tells me a lot of people here don't play BO4. People have been calling me gay everytime they get hit with the seeker. Everyone has known this for months.

It matters because people are outraged about it.
But it shouldn't matter, I had zero interest or hint at what the characters sexual preferences was.
He could be call Pamela on weekends for all I know, he might have a thing for Rihanna or Roseanne Barr
Or maybe Brad Pitt
But it doesn't matter because he is a blank slate.
All this does is separate him because it needs to be pointed out.
Is that really what they want?

The only real problem is the "need" to say this. I mean, who cares, as far as I don't bother you and you don't bother me your sexual orientation is not a big deal.

Sounds like a personal thing with prophet. When people say "don't see me throw my heterosexuality at you", this is what they're talking about. Cool, nobody cares, move on.

Don’t all the characters have backstories? They don’t want anything other than to tell a story

Why do we even care about the sexual orientation of our characters in games that have an absence of a romantic narrative? Does it need to be spelled out in every form of entertainment? Is it suppose to make me like the character more?

Bunch of virtue signaling corporate BS when an article was just released that a Blizzard employee was bullied and had sexist remarks thrown at his face for 6 fucking years...

Doesn't matter the character's sexual orientation, it just adds nothing of value to the product.

Unless you're into sexual lore/ futanari and other weird shit like that, videogames characters' sexual orientation means nothing.

They do but they rarely touch on their sexual orientation.
A relationship is often included in a characters back story when it's an important part of the character because it effects the story and ties to other character.
Today there seems to be more focused on sexual tension and drama while pointing out they are LGBTQ
Just watch one of DC's TV shows to see what I mean.
And it's so out of place and there really is no need for it to be pointed out every 20 mins
There cross overs are becoming laughable because the amount characters with LGBTQ sexual tension in situations that are inappropriate.

Soldier 76 being gay was hype & funny cuz Blizzard wanted mass approval.

This is just lame, do we all clap our hands raw when someone serving in real life is gay? No.

Just like all IbizaPicholo’s threads. This one is pointless, useless and unnecessary

lol banned for this. Honestly, this comment is completely wtf to me, IbizaPicholo is constantly posting worthwhile news and stuff.

See. here’s the thing.....

Does it need to be spelled out? No I don’t think it does.

Does it make anyone like a character more or less? I have no idea. I imagine for some people yes, for more no.

But now the question that sums up the whole stalemate:

Who do we care?

No one cares unless the character is gay. That’s my problem. For all the side stories, extra vids, lore expansions, in game cutscenes, whatever else that portray a straight person don’t elicit any response to anyone.

No one ever posts “why are they telling me this person is straight.” No one asks “why does it matter if they hero is straight.”

People who post those things after a character is gay.

To me there has to be a reason for that. And I think that reason is kind of crappy.

He probably saw that dancing Spider-Man movie.

people getting outraged about this stuff is starting to get more annoying then devs actually trying to force the stuff in their games.

My response is basically ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Unless he shouts "I'M THE GAYEST MOTHERFUCKER ALIVE!" everytime he gets a scorestreak or a kill then I don't see the issue. Then again that line would fit the tone of this game pretty well.

Have they actually come out and specifically said a character is straight?

Who will suddenly become gay next? Waluigi? Richter Belmont? The Arbiter? Daxter? Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z: Homo no densetsu

For those who didn't watch the video, which seems like it could be possibly everyone in this thread, seeing as no one is talking about the details:

1) This wasn't a reaction to Soldier 76. This has been "known" since before the game was released.

2) This doesn't appear in the game at all, and instead comes from a series of comic book stories that were released before Black Ops 4 came out, and designed to introduce you to all of the specialists.

3) Even in the comic, it's never outright stated that Prophet is gay, which is why it took so long for someone to even bring up this subject in the first place. Why Driftor is CERTAIN he's gay simply because he holds a dying friend is beyond me. This was either the writer being subtle, or a mistaken inference.

4) This whole topic brings to mind the interesting debate of just when should people consider something canon? Because it's never stated in the comic, but no one seems to be arguing this, even in the comments section of that video. If it's not stated directly, but the author of the comic confirms it over twitter (which I'm not even sure is true in this case), is it canon then?

Going to file this under, who gives a shit? Its a good place for it.

I guess for those who want a gay character in a game, great, I hope they enjoy it. But for the rest of us, the who gives a shit file is the proper place.

I like to know every character's sexual orientation in every game I play, just so I can spite it all by pretending they're the opposite.

Take that, world.

Of course they have. Lol at Nymphae Nymphae liking your post. Glad I ignored that troll. (All Netflix content is “woke?” LMAO)

I’ll use TLOU as an example.

Joel is a straight man. Wife, daughter.

Could have been a gay man with adopted daughter, but no, just a straight dude. No one has issue, or even mentions anything about Joel being straight in any discussion regarding the game. And they shouldn’t, because it doesn’t matter.

Of course characters are revealed/portrayed as straight in video game lore. Was that even a serious question?

Now, Ellie kisses a girl in TLOU trailer and

REE REE REE REE REE REE

No one ever talks about heterosexuality in video game lore, period. And they shouldn’t. If a creative decision is made to include a non-hetero character in lore then we have blastoff

If you can’t see the hypocrisy than I guess we just disagree. It shouldn’t matter to anyone, either way.

Every gay character doesn’t need a thread on GAF. Gay, straight, bi, anything, IT DOESNT MATTER.

I have no issues with there being gay character. My raised brow comes more from revealing this right after blizzard announced their gay character. So this seems like a reactionary “oh! Oh! We have a gay guy too!”

Do gay characters in your videogames bother you? If sudden reveals of homosexuality are the problem how could developers handle it better in the future?

Ignoring your first question because it’s stupid and moving onto the second, I’m no game developer or writer so I don’t have a solution nor do I care to think of one. I’m just poking fun at this trend lately of developers or shareholders or whoever is doing it announcing one day “Hey btw, that character from that game we released months (or even years) ago? They totally fuck other dudes/ladies when they’re not capturing the objective or getting killstreaks or whatever.”

There have been gay characters in games before and nobody batted an eye. This new thing they’re trying to do just seems forced, like a blatant grab for recognition that they don’t really deserve.

Ok. Maybe it is. So what? What does that change?

Token characters don't help anyone. They just come off as cheap pandering to the lowest demographic. That isn't making gaming "more inclusive", nor is it "progressive". It is a cheap way out to simply appear as caring when they don't actually give a shit.

What do you mean pointed out? If you saw him in a hetero relationship you wouldnt think they where pointing out that he is in a hetero relationship?

They're not pointing out anything you are.

Has CoD ever really concerned itself with the relationships of it's characters? Honest question, outside of this current example, I'm not aware of any games in the franchise that feature any character relationships.

It sounds to me like you are making assumptions. I know gay man that has dated another gay man that was previously married and had kids. Now again i'll ask. Did they specifically go out of their way to say a character was straight or are we going on just assumptions?
