Apple is gonna' have a presence at CES though... in the form of an Apple rep. shopping for hardware patents. Innovation.

Whoop, posting opposites here. Anyone see that eye tracking tech yet? The video looked pretty amazing with how accurate it can be, the trick now is just finding out a right interface to go with it.

Could get complicated touching/clicking while looking at something, definitely a learning curve it seems like.

WTF at all the apple talk/comparisons. Do people actually think that that CES is an apple-chasing event? Never heard of that before. Sorry I know its off-topic but that really is blowing my mind.

Steve Jobs invented the GUI, the mouse, the MP3 player, and the smartphone. I hear that soon his vision for something called a 'TV' will soon be unveiled to our heathen eyes. Everyone is always chasing Apple, all the time, and why not, because Apple invented everything!

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Why do I feel like as a lover of gadgets and stuff that I should be all about CES, but I never find myself really getting excited?

Maybe it's just because it's so big I tend to like smaller more focused events.

Apparently these are the most notable technologies introduced since 2001:

Blu-ray Disc, 2004
HD DVD, 2004
Xbox, 2001

An event mostly about phones, televisions, etc. never interested me cause I never could upgrade to them anyway.

CES is boring. Dozens of companies vomiting out copycats of whatever they think is popular, mixed in with bizarre crap that will never see a store shelf.

Microsoft is right to pull out.

Hyperbolic much? :p

I do get MS's reasoning, but their a huge company that can make plenty of media attention whenever they feel like releasing info or offering up their own press event. CES is useful for the little companies that really don't have that sort of power. It's a good platform for guaranteed, large-scale coverage.

Moreover, it's good for the press as well as it helps them to target products with coverage throughout the year.

never heard about the cat, apparently
Why? It seems to be nice for day to day tasks, especially since its touch based as well. I'm just asking because I have no idea.
metro works very well with a mouse and keyboard on the desktop. The only question i have about it is whether the only 2 app limit on the screen at one time will be a hindrance. Probably just depends on the user but from my use I rarely have more than more 2 apps open on screen at a time.

Anyway I think the general consumer will find the new app environment easier to use. Power Users will probably resist it to the bitter end though.

I hate it, because all the new shiny metro style apps are useless in my multi monitor environment.

Just a reminder, just about everything in the OP is clickable and I'm keeping it up to date. The MS presser image is the link to the live stream.

Will add further blog sites when I get off the train.

Lenovo announces transformer tablet.

Lenovo had thet device of this type long before transformer.

They are likely the most innovative PC manufactuer around. Same with ultrabooks, theirs is the only one that doesn't have design heavily influenced by Macbook air. Which is propably one of the reasons why they're currently the fastest growing PC vendor. Heck, analysts predict they will even pass Apple this year in all-in-one market.

Fujitsu and Huawei demonstrated new ultra thin phones. Fujitsu's phone is even thinner than the new Razr.

Don’t be deceived into believing for a moment that its delicate proportions mean that it’s fragile. The IS12F has Gorilla Glass protecting the 4” AMOLED 800x480px display – and if that’s not enough, Fujitsu has also made the phone waterproof, a fact demonstrated to Pocket-lint, who witnessed the phone being casually dipped into a goldfish bowl filled with water.

But beyond its thin frame and surprising durability, the specifications for this device are decidedly unremarkable. A single-core Qualcomm MSM8655 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor keeps things moving, along with 512MB of RAM, although performance out of the box is reportedly quite brisk.

Despite its sleek body, the styling is certainly something of an acquired taste. The reverse is home to a 5MP camera (compared with the RAZR’s 8MP 1080p affair), while there’s a front-facing camera of unknown resolution too. As you’d expect, there’s wi-fi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS, along with a micro-SD slot.

There’s no Ice Cream Sandwich here though – Android 2.3 Gingerbread calls the shots on this device, with no word yet on whether an upgrade will be forthcoming to Android 4.0.
