Being a long time Dave fan, I think he's just trolling the shit out of everyone. Dude isn't a dummy.

Sounds like his version of "PC Culture run amok" tirades but done as a comedy set for shock value.

So instead of complaining about he makes an irreverent set about it.

He's also rich enough not to care about the fall out.

Spewing vile shit and blaming PC Culture when people call you out on your shit. Genius!

I bolded it to note that he'd made similar sexual assault jokes week ago, so it's not just the observer making stuff up.

And this is literally defending Trump's sexual assault, how is that not pro-assault.
For one this is a transcribed routine. Even if it is accurate we don't know the tone in which it's delivered. Second, he "takes issue" with the interpretation. I'm putting that in quotes because it's very possible he's not making serious points, which is something a lot of comedians do. At most you can say he declined to interpret the video the way you did, in his comedic act.

Might just be me but I think they were just jokes. Chappelle's good at the "lemme try to turn a bad situation into something funny on it's ear" thing before and it just feels like this might be one of them. That's just me.

I mean, this: “They should not be having that conversation in front of black people. You go ahead and feel something about your rights. But if you’re putting sexism and homophobia and transphobia in front of racism, you should be ashamed of yourself." is a terrible "joke", if true.

"implies consent" and "woman with a dick" seems impossible to make funny as well, certainly in 2016, but I guess the other stuff is whatever?

No. He's doing it preemptively.

Just reading the set and watching his stuff for years.

He just doesn't care.

Seinfeld and Chris Rock has said similar things in the past about PC culture, but they were more diplomatic lol. Moreover, they didn't make a comedy set on it.

Disappointing that some will still make excuses for Chappelle's misogyny, homophobia and transphobia. None of this is out of character for him. To try and paint this as some sort of meta commentary on "PC culture" (wtf seriously?) that he has been keeping up for over 10 years is stretching reality to breaking point.

I'm also concerned with how everything Clinton is buried under a rug just because Trump is nut job.

Jim Jeffries did a bit about this, how the media got up in arms about his Bill Cosby stand up. Reminds me of this situation.

Plus, if Chappelle is just testing the material and it didn't fly, I don't think he will ever say this stuff again.

People forget he's just a performer just trying to get a laugh. This material isn't funny soooo, hopefully, he never performs it again.

Now, if he is in an interview saying this stuff with a straight face or keeps repeating it, that's seriously problematic. :/

I always figured he was alright politically from the content of his prior work.

I'll still always revere him for his show and unbeatable stand-up sets, but I guess he's getting thrown on the list of people who I only respect for their work and that alone.

Personally I think Comedy Clubs have always been a place where "anything goes" and if you can't handle offensive humor then stay away from those clubs.

Roasts are the greatest thing ever and they all include the most horrific comments you will ever hear.

I guarantee people laughed at those jokes a lot. Definitely not impossible.

I think he's basically correct that Trump's phrasing in the originally tape could, on its own, imply consent, assuming you understand the "they" he referenced to be the women being grabbed, rather than the authorities, i.e. he's such a rich, famous star that women want him implicitly - and, really, bragging about women wanting you is far more common than bragging about them NOT wanting you - but you cannot really extricate it from your knowledge of Trump's overall attitude toward women which suggested that, yeah, he probably did just grope the shit out of unsuspecting women at least a few times.

Edit: that said, the idea that you need your entertainers to recapitulate your views, even those you believe to be rooted in morality and fairness, in order to enjoy their work is just silly. Chappelle's a funny motherfucker, whether or not you feel "gross" reading like two minutes' worth of an hour bit ("gross", like "problematic", is a term that needs to be taken out back and shot, incidentally.)

No, you are absolutely 100% wrong and you don't understand consent.

With consent, you get an affirmative to do something BEFORE you fucking do it ... if you do it first, it's assault -- and someone being shocked or fearful that they don't respond immediately does not make it somehow ok.

Right before this, Trump said he "doesn't even wait [for consent]."
Why would you have your phone out during a comedy show?
Are you glad that Bill Cosby's career and legacy have been ruined? Literally only happened because someone had their phone out at a comedy show.

Whats real, whats jokes? Thats a similar defense as with random assholes on the internet, but comedians are professionals. Let them live or die by themselves

That's exactly what's going on. He needs an audience to be successful and as a fairly large fan of his this is killing my excitement for anything from him in the future.

Except comedy clubs are not anything goes. Ask Michael Richards for example.

Not surprised at all about this. I've been warning you guys for months in a few different threads that he's a douche now. Saw him live in November and he had this weirdo authoritarian approach to live comedy: no phones out and no buying drinks while he's performing. The majority of his subject matter was complaining about his wife and kid while chain smoking cigarettes. Waste of $90.

Take out your phone at a Kevin Hart show and you will be escorted out.

i don't really want to say much without seeing the set, but I'll note that consent under duress or other factors such as "This guy is a star and he'll fuck up my life if I don't smile and nod" is not consent

Surely someone recorded Chappelle at his show? I'm willing to believe multiple people that were there, but to start ridiculing this guy based on my source? Seems a bit premature.

I don't necessarily see a problem with him criticising Hilary's campaign for keeping that audio until a time that suited their political agenda though. It's just the rest of the stuff, god damn if true, and if true hope he's kicked off SNL

Not a great look but it depends on the tone, conversation, etc... that "putting x rights above racism is shameful" part is hard to get past though.

He wasn't telling a joke though, he lost his temper and started screaming at the audience. That's a lot different.

Even bombing a set super hard doesn't compare to the Kramer incident.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Dave came out full Alt-right at some point.

Not many places you can vote for Hillary but still be labelled as alt-right these days, but there we go.

And if that legitimately wouldn't surprise you then you probably wouldn't phased if he also unzipped his skin and revealed himself as an alien

What is going full alt-right?

Writing columns for Breitbart, groping women, making fun of and criticizing LGBT, letting Joe Rogan sleep on your couch.

Not many places you can vote for Hillary but still be labelled as alt-right these days, but there we go

There's absolutely going to be exceptions and cross over votes. He made it quite clear he reluctantly voted for Hillary (or maybe he didn't vote for her and is just trying to not completely piss people off) but people will vote for their best interest in the end.

I mean, lets cut the bullshit and make it plain as day. If you think what Trump said wasn't vile to completely denounce, if you think it wasn't bad or even worse, Gangster of him, then you blame the woman for "snitching" on him and are more upset about that, you put down another groups civil rights movement and then proceed to make tasteless jokes about transgender, I really don't know how much more altright you can get.

On one hand, I need to see the video before judging.

On the other hand, people shouldn't be surprised when a celebrity turns out to be a complete dumbass or creep. Not in Hollywood today.

People laughing at shitty "jokes" doesn't suddenly absolve them of their shittiness. I mean, a seemingly no-nonsense "women with a dick" joke in 2016? Come on, Dave can do better than that. (and hopefully he drops it from his set)

It was part of a comedy routine so I don't hold him to these statements.

Same way I don't hold Kanye to his rhymes.

It's getting him attention either way

I don't get why people are surprised. Listening to his old stuff, he doesn't really hide the sexism in his jokes. He is just way more famous for his stuff on racial issues.

Is the 'alt-right accusation' taking the place of Hitler comparisons for the left? Seems like that's the default whenever someone doesn't pass the purity test. Just throw them in that deplorable basket.

I haven't done any polling, but I think it's pretty safe to assume that there aren't very many alt-righters out there voting for Hillary. Maybe Chappelle is the only one?

Yeah, let's start up a new thread every time someone comes across a hip-hop track with distasteful lyrics. We wouldn't even have to use a publication run by Trump's son-in-law as a source for that.
