Child Prodigy vs. Video Games - kid destroys his games (Youtube)

Update: The original video was taken down after it backfired on them (negative ratings and comments). Here is a mirror.

Yeah I don't think I like the message he's trying to send. If you don't want to play games anymore, just donate them to someone who would appreciate them. People have attempted to demonize video games since the dawn of the industry, it doesn't work.

To end on a positive note: How Washington Learned to Love Video Games (wasn't this exhibit organized by a GAFer?)

"Video Games will ruin your life"

Yeah, no. Without video games I wouldn't had a job for the last 4 years or so, so buzz off.

a video on moderation in regards to video games ( or any potentially addictive hobby ) would've been more constructive and helpful, but probably wouldn't have gotten the amount of hits this video will surely get.

Reading the comments, if anything, what's wrong is not the video games but the people. It's not the game's fault that you spent more on them than your studies, after all. What a weird and misguided message.

Yeah, if video games are a problem in someone's life, chances are their real problem is a lack of self control. I own lots of games. I also own lots of books. So far I haven't had to take a hammer to one collection in order to devote time to the other.

Sort of a silly video. I mean he's just a kid so whatever. Should have donated them to somebody or something, though.

Exactly, it's not the medium's problem but the person itself. So if anything the video just shows that the person lacks the ability to manage his life.

So basically because he's addicted to gaming and achievement hunting all gaming is bad and destroys peoples lives?

I'm sorry but that's an absolutely terrible message.

There ya go kid. Maybe some day you'll be cool and successful like your dad. You'll drive around a low-end sportscar and instill lofty thoughts into children of your own.

You can be a whiz kid at something and still totally be a dumb ass as a person. Oooooooh GED!

But he's a kid with an obnoxious family judging by the intro, so even though he might mature it won't be much with parents like that.

Now I finally realize gaming will destroy my life cause I lack self control and put it before other responsibilities. I'm sure every single gamer is the same.

*shrugs*

Now I need to find my hammer and do the same.

Red hot scoopz from mathboysmom:

On that test 170 is just the top, you cannot go higher. Actually the guy testing him said at the time it was probably higher but those were ceiling effects. His IQ on the stanford is much higher (tested again last summer). He basically tops out any IQ test he takes...so it is considered unmeasurable. Thanks for noticing. (oh and also he is not scary like kaczynski do not worry! Jacob is a philanthropist...so that should ease people's minds.)

A philanthropist!

"I'm not done with you, don't run away from me!"

"Let's just put it down, I wanna... I wanna screw this one!"

"There we go!"

"Heheheh... I feel like I'm gonna do it again... How about, how about that?"

"Feels real good inside to be honest with ya!"

"Is that even possible?! I've got concrete stuck on it."

What an Idiot.
He doesn't destroy his xbox because his family still plays it, good good, so he destroy the games instead. Freaking genius indeed.

Video games are bad.

But drilling holes and hammering chunks out of city owned and tax payer paid footpaths? Prodigy smart.

That video was disturbing.

Not because he destroyed games or anything, but just the way he acted and stuff was... weird.

Ugh... When a kid is smart you don't treat them special I'm actually pretty close to how that kid was around his age. My parents just said don't be wasteful don't do stupid stuff. If you break something you are going to do chores til you pay it back and so forth.

Treating your kid as some fucking messiah is baaaad.

"Jordan you are smart but don't let that go to your head and be a smart ass and act like you are better than everyone. Everyone has things they are good at and things they will be better at. You are booksmart sure but who's to say you might not be strong when you are older and will need muscle or a talent you don't have. If you neglect others and treat them like they are lesser than you with no respect towards them, when the time comes that you need a friend those people will not be there for you." ...... <3 mah grandpa

Him saying this alone helped shape who I am today and I'm grateful for the many great friends I have.... this kid on the other hand...

Edit: I take back that last bit after watching some of the other videos. His parents shouldn't let him get away with destructive behavior though.

Accidentally clicked a link the comments to the second video posted and it took me to the kid's favourite.

He likes Payphone by Maroon 5 and Minecraft.

This video is a prime example showing that just because you're really smart, you can still be dumb as bricks. How wasteful.

Alternatively, kid finds video games too hard and is now getting petty revenge.

Oh yeah I'm sure call of duty is hard LOL

He's trying to say if you spend less time playing games and spend more time being productive and study or what ever you could be a better person. Of course wasting money kinda shows the opposite and telling people to work their entire time than have a hobby they enjoy is a bit stupid. The kid like me at his age just got lucky that his brain clicks with absorbing info. I read through hundreds of books at his age that was the most damn entertaining thing ever for me. But at the same time I still played games :D Homework is what I didnt do hahaha. He just doesn't have it in his mind yet that everyone has their own perks and can't all be as book smart as him. He'll learn that part sooner or later though.

That doesn't make you a better person, it makes you a person that spends more time doing those things. What if somebody plays a lot of games and through playing them, they develop an understanding of how game design works and have a career as a game designer or something? It's not like playing games is a complete timesink. It can be productive too.

I read up on the kid a little and apparently he actually is very smart but his mom parades him around to the media. Depressing.

IF HE'S SO FUCKING SMART THEN WHY IS HE WEARING A SHIRT THAT'S ABOUT 100 TIMES TOO BIG?

He's so intelligent and wise that he recognized that children of his relative age grow at an alarming rate. Knowing this, he requested his parents purchase clothing that was much larger in anticipation of his growing body. At his young age he is already very financially in charge of his life.
