the video reminded me of...

I remember reading somewhere that what differentiates humans from animals is the use of tools.

I guess we need to start looking for something else that differentiates us, because that chimp was using a tool to lay a beat down.

chimps are known to use tools for eating too, I remember watching a vid where a chimp used a stick to poke at an ant hill to have it covered of ants and eat them more easily iirc.

this vid is kind of awesome, and shows how smart they can be.

Don't get me wrong, that was kinda sad but I'm not ashamed to admit it was one of the most entertaining clips I've ever seen. The way he manipulated that big stick was damn impressive!

Pretty sure Chimps in the wild have been observed killing rival gang members and eating the remains.

Its cool to see him getting a feel for the stick, and associating it with something to hurt the other dude with. Lookes like a samurai for a second there...

A lot of things use tools. Ant engineering trumps most green buildings.

Time to start another, "who would win a fight between a chimp and an expert martial artist" thread!

chimps have long known to use tools to kill. I know I saw a doc where one group went into another group's area and killed a lone chimp bashing him with a rock

The part where one of them is beating his chest while screaming actually reminds me of drunk dudes yelling and gesticulating prior to fighting.

Chimps are mean fuckers, it's no wonder they're so closely related to us.

Awesome vid. Chimps are some of the awesome creatures to watch. There was one vid that showed a chimp actually recognizing his reflection in a mirror. He got to the point where he would actually use it o find things on his body. Interesting how they are some of the smartest creatures around yet one of the most primitive with the canibalism and stuff.

Tool use is a sign of intelligence, but, using tools to create other tools is a sign of sentience. The apes know how to make tools, they don't know why, they just do it and aren't aware of what they're doing.

Oh wow thats the la zoo. I was over there a month back for my job, and one of the parents of the kids said the last time they were there in feb she said the chimps were going berserk on each other.

The video is dated from jan, I guess this has been going on for a while with that group.
