China: Customers find condom in dish, manager eats it to avoid paying fine

In a story that's got hundreds of millions of netizens talking/retching, diners at an Anhui restaurant were about to enjoy a nice fish meal when they discovered a surprise on their plate: a condom. When they threatened to fine the establishment more than 100,000RMB, the manager allegedly refused, instead agreeing to eat the condom as compensation:

The patron, surnamed Liang, said she was dining with two other women when they turned over their shared catch of the day to find a condom.

The report failed to mention if the prophylactic was used.

Shocked and disgusted, Liang and her friends demanded compensation from the manager: an ambulance, reimbursed medical expenses and 100,000 yuan ($16,039).

"They suspected us of putting the condom there ourselves," said Liang.

Despite the manager arguing that the condom would have melted after being roasted, Liang and friends disagreed and eventually proposed their sadistic solution.

"I was on duty so I had to eat it to get the problem settled," said the manager.

Someone please give this guy the "Employee of the Century Award"/ a part in Jackass 4.

While this is (hopefully) the the first time a restaurant manager has agreed to eat a prophylactic found in food, this isn't the first time a lucky customer has found one in their food. The other case involved a group who found a condom in their yogurt. We pray they also didn't find "yogurt" in that condom.

Yeah what?

Nobody was actually hurt right?
This sounds like a joke lawsuit.

Also the condom looks like the most appetising thing in that dinner..

Well, getting semen and sperm out of your body would be a tough procedure. If the condom was used of course. But you have a point, unless they tasted those things while eating the meal its hard to say if the condom was fresh or not.

There could be far worse things than that in a used condom

Therapy expenses, unexpected stress related conditions popping into existance, impotency due to trauma.

I could make up a list of phony medical issues arising from seeing the condom. Some could be pre-existing but I could start suggesting the pain became worse after seeing the condom.

Flash that cash!!!

Dick cheese?

Actually if the condom was one of those numbing/sensation/whatever condom's that being mixed in with the food would be pretty worrying.
I don't know enough about STDs to say which survive ingestion and which don't, but if they had taken a bite of the food before discovering the condom, going to the hospital wouldnt seem unreasonable.

They must have gotten tested for std's and such. I know I would have if I found a condom in my dish.

Yeah, that part seems odd. It also makes me lean more towards them having planted the condom there - to try to scam the restaurant. I mean, I hope I am wrong, but no matter which side I pick, my faith in humanity plummets equally.

The picture totally contradicks the story. I gave up eating fish here because they leave the damn bones in, and I have not figured out a way to avoid them no matter how hard I try. Not worth it.

Edit: just noticed the website name is ahwang.cn....this can't be real.

Considering the customers preferred choice of compensation was for him to eat it ....yeah i'd say it was planted

It's An Hui (name of the province) network, yeah, net is wang, but it's pronounced a bit differently than you think.
It's pronounced "Wong" specifically. Many Chinese people named Wang choose to romanize their names that way when they go to the states for this reason.

What the hell is that thing on the top right?
Is it a spine?
Fish are often served whole here. I love to bite the head off first and pretend I'm Ozzy Osbourne.

First time I came across the word was in a college bathroom when I was in elementary school. I thought there was a machine in there selling ketchup packets or something. I kept forgetting to bring 50 cents and buy one ;)

It's not exactly wong either, and I don't think pronunciation accuracy is why people don't want their name to be romanized to wang...

There was a possibility of contracting hiv if it was used so the customers got the right
You can't contract HIV from a condom that was put there and baked in a dish. Even if it was put there before taken out by the server, the virus would have died off before it even reached the table. HIV dies outside of the body very quickly, once it hits air.

They usually romanize it according to however their home location romanized it. People from the Mainland rarely would change the romanization they've used their whole life. But Hong Kong and Taiwan romanize different things differently--A Huang or Wang in the Mainland would be Wong in Hong Kong, and in Taiwan, it would be Huang and arbitrarily Wang/Wong based on personal choice.
