Christianity [OT] The Word became flesh and dwelt among us

This guy is pretty good. First time I’ve heard anything like it. Explains how Christ wasn’t looking to start a religion but how we are supposed to be God’s kingdom on earth.

Today's Gospel reading, Matthew 5:43-48

Jesus said to his disciples:
"You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."

Today is World Refugee Day.

The U.S. Conference of Bishops have published a 2018 toolkit including information, prayers, and suggestions on how to engage in advocacy.

Hey guys. Listening to a program on bloodlines this morning and it brought something to mind. If Mary is just a HOOMAN like the rest of us outside of being blessed to bring Christ into the world, Why is the focus on whether or not her and Joseph had kids? Flesh is flesh. Be it Mary’s mother or any siblings of Mary, wouldn’t it still be the same bloodline? 🧐

Today is the Memorial of St. Aloysius Gonzaga.

images

He was born in 1568 to an aristocratic family who would serve the Holy Roman Empress, but he gave up his inheritance for religious life. His parents pressured him to become a secular priest so that he could become a bishop, but he refused this as well, intending to pursue the missionary work of the Jesuits. He died in 1591, caring for those suffering from a plague.

Today's Gospel reading is Matthew 6:7-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
"In praying, do not babble like the pagans,
who think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them.
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

"This is how you are to pray:

'Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.'

"If you forgive others their transgressions,
your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."

😂 Rothschild?

5Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 6Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

“Never abandon old friends; you will never find a new one who can take their place. Friendship is like wine; it gets better as it grows older. Don't be jealous of a sinner's success; you don't know what kind of disaster is in store for him. Don't take pleasure in the things that make ungodly people happy; remember that they will be held guilty as long as they live. If you keep away from someone who has the power to put you to death, you will not have to fear for your life; but if you must go near him, be very careful, or he may kill you. Be conscious that you are walking among hidden traps, that you are an easy target. Get to know the people around you as well as you can, and take advice only from those who are qualified to give it. Engage in conversation with intelligent people, and let the Law of the Most High be the topic of your discussions. Choose righteous people for your dinner companions. Your chief pride should be your fear of the Lord.”

This is Sirach 9:14-22 actually.

Sirach 9

14 Forsake not an old friend, for the new will not be like to him.
15 A new friend is as new wine: it shall grow old, and thou shalt drink it with pleasure.
16 Envy not the glory and riches of a sinner: for thou knowest not what his ruin shall be.
17 Be not pleased with the wrong done by the unjust, knowing that even to hell the wicked shall not please.
18 Keep thee far from the man that hath power to kill, so thou shalt not suspect the fear of death.
19 And if thou come to him, commit no fault, lest he take away thy life.
20 Know it to be a communication with death: for thou art going in the midst of snares, and walking upon the arms of them that are grieved:
21 According to thy power beware of thy neighbour, and treat with the wise and prudent.
22 Let just men be thy guests, and let thy glory be in the fear of God.

Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)

Sirach is in the "Catholic" (i.e. true) Bible. Are you swimming the Tiber to Rome now Sax? Are you becoming a dreaded papist suddenly!? Rome Sweet Home! ;)

😂 you wish. I’ve always preferred the GNTD because it contains some of the missing or “hidden” scriptures. Just makes it easier for my reading not having to look outside of the book. I’d love an actual hard copy bible that contains the apocryphal texts, Enoch, Jasher, Jubilees, even some of the gnostic texts.

“Watch out for people who grin and wink at you; they have thought of something evil.”

Any evangelical Christian's in here that also align themselves with nationalism ideology like trumps? Maybe it would help me understand my family, I was raised heavily Christian, went to churches with people slain in the spirit and speaking in tongues. Was raised to love thy neighbor and all that but now I feel they put trumps America first policy above even the word of christ himself. I just can't understand how nationalism aligns at all with christianity, and quite frankly am scared shitless of this cult like following trump has gotten from evangelicals. Although I'm pretty sure the answer is they are just being manipulated cause he saw them for what they are. An easy target.

I may start a thread, or you can, about this topic. I think there is something interesting to discuss in your baited questions. Let's not pollute this thread with something so far off topic.

There may be some bait there yes. But it's hard to discuss christianity seriously in the shape it's in now being so intertwined with politics. The more this is pointed out the better I think.

“The Lord sees to the government of the world and brings the right person to power at the right time. The success of that person is in the Lord's hands. The Lord is the source of the honor given to any official.”
‭‭Sirach‬ ‭10:4-5‬ ‭

I’m almost 100% certain that if Hillary were elected the aliens would be here already. I always viewed Trump’s election as God hitting the time out button while people are gathering all the info they can about the “reality” we live in. No matter how odd Trump being president may seem, there’s a reason for it.

Lol what? But how come when Obama was Pres they bashed him non stop? I mean my super Christian grandma was liking FB post about Michele being a trans ape woman. I just don't get it.

That’s because the vast majority of Christians, myself included have been blinded by these fake churches and aren’t taught anything. I go through the same thing with my family of “Christians” bashing Trump today. If people actually read the Bible for themselves instead of following these so called pastors, we’d be in a better place.

My mom shared something on FB showing people climbing a wall and it said "if you don't want to be seperated from your kids don't come here illegally" or something to that nature. It was posted by a pastors who's feed is chocked full of nasty memes about snowflakes, libtards and illegals. And then a bunch of scripture posts about how might god is. To me this is deeply disturbing and is not far off from being considered cultish behavior considering how many posts show trump and an American flag like its somehow Christian. Scary shit man.

The Catholic Church is the pimp and the churches of the world are the prostitutes. Just stick with scripture and like minded believers for church. Church has nothing to do with these buildings or the preachers in them. It’s all BS. That “Church™️“ is the worlds church.

That's good advice, thanks. I wish I could get my mom to wake up though. She hasn't seen her grand kids in years and she doesn't seem to care cause she thinks that's the price of being a Christian. In reality I just don't want my kids around people that constantly talk about "the illegals".

Our “parents” and “family” are just people. They’re as messed up as we are because we’re all born into the same lie. The Father is in heaven and scripture he left us along with salvation and teachings of His son are all we need. Be aware of your sins so you learn from them as not to keep repeating the same mistakes and use scripture as your guidebook. The Holy Spirit will lead you as well. Whatever you learn, give to your children or the young so we can continue to break the cycle we’ve been put into.

Christians get uncomfortable when you ask them WWJD....

Do they? I don't. I ask myself that often and it was the guiding principle that motivated me to vote for Trump and not Clinton.

Evangelical support of the current POTUS concerning the fantasy of overturning Roe v Wade, when he in fact, doesn't give a damn about that, is precisely the kind of thinking that has N Naudi and the world at large asking hard questions concerning if Christians really are who they claim to be.

The obsession with unborn children versus the callousness in which we treat the already born, is a profound hypocrisy.

Yeah I'm sure god loves refugees being denied a better life and immigrants being dehumanized to the point they are all rapists. Seems to me that Christian's should be praying that every single immigrant or refugee legal or illegal makes it here safely. Allow them to pursue a better life and gets them closer to you which would allow you to show the love of christ to them and save their souls. But I guess letting them suffer and die is cool too.

God is a 7-dimensional entity, and from this perspective our 3-dimensional reality is literally a piece of fiction.

Have you read the Atlantic article on why Evangelicals got hooked on Trump? It answers a lot of your questions and IMO this thread should not be the place where we debate why one country's demographic currently supports its administration. Definitely a good conversation to be had if someone wants to make a separate thread.

Oh snap. I just saw the moderator note on the first post. Better pack your bags, cuz this is moving to the community boards soon.

Yes, I am very familiar with that article. It debunks economic anxiety as a reason why so many whites voted against Hillary, and establishes the threat of ethnic Extinction as a possibility, which is why populism / nationalism is on the rise.
Identity politics are only problematic depending on the identity that is being pushed....

What it and many other articles are unable to address is the contradiction between the way a Christian is expected to behave with humility, any sense of justice for those who have less than we do, and the character of the man they voted for, who boasts and brags.

When the story about him giving a pornstar a creampie after he was married to Melania broke, his approval ratings among white evangelicals INCREASED!

That can't be explained with logic and reason. I can only conclude that they DNGAF.

A few weeks ago, someone asked us why Christians are not more revolutionary politically, given that Jesus of Nazareth and his teachings were so revolutionary. I found a very compelling answer in Malachi Martin's book The Jesuits, which in large part is a refutation of Liberation Theology, that, in some respect, tried to synthesize the kind of theological-political outlook the poster thought would be natural. I want to post a short review of the book when I'm done but I wanted to share the following passage with you:

"Christ never singled out the proletariat with a preferential option in their favor. Christ acted on no sociological theory about the economic inequality and the political opposition between classes. He aimed at no armed revolution, no political liberation. He had no more preferential option for the poor to the positive exclusion—forcible or otherwise—of the well-off, than he had a preferential option for little children to the exclusion of adults.

Christ’s option was for godliness and piety and innocence and humility and fidelity to God’s law, wherever he found it—in poor man or rich; in little child or old man; in his rich friends like Nicodemus, Joseph of Arimathea, Lazarus and his two sisters, Mary and Martha; in his poor friends like Zacchaeus, Bartimaeus, the blind beggar, or any one of his twelve Apostles.

For Christ was a savior of sinners, not a secular leader. It was not poverty or riches that made or makes you desirable in Christ’s eyes. It was what you did in your poverty or your riches—what sort of morality you practiced, what beliefs you nourished.

I don't necessarily agree with all of the rhetoric here. With respect to a sociological theory about economic equality, Christ suggested that poverty is an irresolvable failure of human society (Mt 26:11). And the Matthew Principle (Mt 25:29) seems to recall the laws of physics that large entities tend to grow larger and continue to crowd out smaller entities. Regarding a preferential option for children at the exclusion of adults, he had very harsh words for adults who purposefully transgress against the innocence of children (Mt 18:6). Indeed, the innocence of a child's heart is something Christians are called to imitate (Mt 19:14).

Still, Malachi's sentiment is strong. I've been troubled lately by the tendency of young people to insist "everything is political." I believe this diminishes the dimensions of the human person, to dehumanize them into political units, so they can be predictably maneuvered, like the way the military tries to beat out the selfhood of soldiers in order to bring predictability to the battlefield. We should forego the division of social warfare and instead always search how to better reconcile ourselves to the Father.

I have a question. How can anyone but God declare someone a saint? And to be a saint, wouldn’t it require full repentance as in no more sin until death?

The “orthodoxy” sure seems quiet. Perhaps baptizing a few “aliens” would help. 🙄 Anyway, the Holy Spirit and Wisdom are one in the same which would also make the Holy Spirit a feminine spirit. Proverbs 8. Also, Christ is more than likely remains the only “Christian” in our time. To be Christ like it requires repentance, not the love produced by the world. It is impossible to live in any form of sin and be a Christian. People believe in Santa Claus but if he actually existed no one is ever helping him make any toys at the North Pole. The Catholic Church invented the false doctrine of belief and created a church of sinners instead of saints. Only God can know who’s a saint and that comes through Yeshua Hamashiac not your fake Jesus.

What harm is there in letting people believe what they want? How does it affect your salvation? You are only responsible for yourself at the end of it all aren't you? Are you trying to save the world?

Aren't we supposed to spread the gospel? correct those within the "church"? speaking of, the catholic church probably thought they were so damn slick knocking down temples and building cathedrals over them. since its a false church, all they were really doing was disguising themselves. I wonder what's really in the basement of the Vatican and what stood there before it. Rivers of blood? Basilisk portals? Basilica? Basilisk? YIKES. Believers and seekers of Christ and Truth are the church with the goal of becoming saints in God's eyes. Tell your grandmother to save her tithe money. These false "fathers" don't need any more free dough because no one is saved through false doctrine.

Profound. Welp, guess I have to leave "Frankie" and the ancient Holy Roman Catholic Church and join the cult of Sax because Sax says Rome has false doctrine and the basement of the Vatican has rivers of blood and/or basilisks and portals!? Nobody told me about the dang portals! Yeah sure Sax has an infantile understanding of the history of the Church and is a conspiratorial kook...BUT...he does not have PORTALS. IN. HIS. BASEMENT!

OK Sax, I know the sun is only a few miles away from the earth, according to your enlightened scientific wisdom. What other nuggets of stupidity do I have to embrace to leave Mother Church and join your clueless cult?
