Right, but given that's the "key" to registration, is it a permanent thing? It is for 3DSes, but then they get a coin bonus for linking.

I am guessing you can only get the coin bonus once per DSi unit. But no, after that you can unlink it and link to another account if you wish to, and all your future downloads will show up there instead.

Just wanted to let you know that I literally just registered my copy of EBA and it got me 30 coins.

I'm going through and registering everything that should have already expired or is expiring this cycle.

Edit: I guess this is less useful if you guys are talking about pre-existing surveys expiring. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding.

Double Edit: Interestingly enough, the only expired DS games that worked were EBA and the Mario games that got reprinted with the red boxes. Everything else didn't give any coins.
To repeat David, we would really like to know which games didn't work. Many games from that period never qualified for coins (the list of qualifying games is in the OP), so perhaps all the other ones are these types.

Hey guys. I just got a DSiXL. (OMG is it pretty. I'm playing Chrono Trigger and it's like playing it on a 60" TV or something.) They seem to be getting rare online, and some colors appear to be out of production. I was going to save the coins for the next CN year.

But I connected to the Nintendo Shop to download Zelda Four Swords. I now see that the official "160 coins for registering" post requires you to register online and then connect to the Nintendo Shop for points.

Am I screwed now?
I'm not sure where you got that information. You need to have linked before you downloaded Four Swords if you wanted the survey for that. However, the DSi XL's 160 coins comes from a slip with a pin number in the box, just like the games do. Entering that code will give you the survey to complete to get the 160 coins for your DSi XL.

Edit: Oh, I see the issue. The stuff you mentioned is for DSi units, not DSi XL ones. Also, even though it doesn't apply to your XL, you can do the steps in any order according to the FAQ, you just need to do them all to get it to register. I'll add that part to the quote from the FAQ too.

Here's the FAQ information in case you're wondering:
Club Nintendo FAQ said:
Nintendo DSi XL
Nintendo DSi XL system registrations do qualify for Coins when the system PIN has been registered in Club Nintendo and the associated survey has been completed. The PIN can be found on an insert included with the system. The Nintendo DSi XL may also qualify for a free 90-day warranty extension when the serial number is registered in your Club Nintendo account. A short survey may be required.

Nintendo DSi
Nintendo DSi system registrations do qualify for Coins when the system serial number has been registered in Club Nintendo, the associated survey has been completed, and the Nintendo DSi Shop has been linked to your Club Nintendo account (wireless broadband connection required). Click here for more information. The Nintendo DSi will receive the free 90-day warranty extension when the serial number is registered in your Club Nintendo account even if the associated survey and Nintendo DSi link are not completed. The Nintendo DSi does not come with a PIN.

Three options.

1) Put in a fake address and have your platinum award get lost.
2) Ask a friend or relative in the States (even some Gaffers might be receptive) to let them use their address.
3) Sign up for one of the sites like HopShopGo that will give you a US address and ship stuff to your other address so that you can get your platinum status prize and even spend your coins (spend them all in one go when the palt prize ships to save on shipping to you).

I use a combination of 2 and 3 depending whether my friends are think of moving place or not.

Well lets say in the meantime i get an address i put a fake one just for the digital games... it can be changed later i mean before they send the platinum reward??

Majoras Mask get!

So awesome that they are exchanging coins for VC games. I suggested this to them every chance I got. :D

Awesome Awesome.

I tried registering a code for Warioware Smooth Moves and it didn't give me any notification (just kicked me back to the Earn Coins page). I bought it used so I don't know if it's been redeemed or whether it's expired. It also doesn't show up in my account history.

Spreadsheet updated. I think I may go nuts and list all the WiiWare demos at some point in the future...

It's probably been used already. I believe it usually takes back to the page and puts the notification above the code entry box rather than providing you with a pop-up, so maybe you didn't see it. Try entering it again, just in case.

One would think the registered games list would still add the games, even if they had expired for surveys.

This would be interesting, but there's some other things we need to know to clear this up fully. When did you try to enter the code? Was the game bought new or used?

Some of them count as separate, others count as the same. The spreadsheet marks out which ones register as the original release and which ones register as new.

I bought the game new, I got 3 of them in a clearance bin at toys r us.

Ah, so it seems there are games that are really expiring then. So does the game still show up in your list of registered games, or is it just impossible to use any of those codes?

Panic time. I need to make sure I'm not sitting on any nearly-expired stuff. Which title did he say was not registering?

At the risk of getting annoying, could you tell us...
1) Exactly which games you attempted to register? (Were they all codes from new, sealed copies?)
2) Which ones registered with coins?
3) The ones that DIDN'T give coins -- did it give you any sort of error message?
4) If you check your Registered Products list, are they listed?

I had a copy of EBA that expired.
What exactly did the Club Nintendo website say when you attempted to enter the code?

Sorry for not replying sooner. I wasn't aware that earlier DS games weren't supposed to give coins, so that was most of what I registered, but they were added to the list of registered products.

Stuff like Mario Kart DS, NSMB, and I think Mario 64 DS registered and gave coins though.

So, probably nothing you didn't already know, I can grab the names of everything later if you need them. I just wanted to point out that EBA was still working.

I don't remember exactly what it said as it was about a year ago, but it was something like "this games code has expired", distinct from registering a game that does not give you points. Looking at my history, it looks like it does show up.

Well, I'm not sure what the issue was exactly, but your information here confirms that this is not code expiry due to age. EBA was due to expire in November last year, so if you got this expiry message 'about a year ago', then it can't of been the age thing we are enquiring about.

Now the question comes down to explaining your message... Perhaps one of the following happened
  1. You had already registered a copy of the game beforehand on the same account
  2. Somebody had gone rifling through the bargain bin before you, writing down codes to steal them
  3. The store you bought them from put used games in the bargain bin as new.

I'm not sure if I can think of much else besides Nintendo printing a bad code. Do you still have any of the three codes from the games you got from the bin?

I'm sure this question has been beaten to death, so if it has apologies. I have a ton of unanswered surveys on my Club Nintendo account. Today I sat down to do some; most are post-plays, but there are a few product registrations. I entered the pins for the product registration surveys on the old site; on the new site they show a completion date. When I click the survey, I'm directed to a page asking me to enter a pin. Do I need to re-enter the pin, access the survey some other way, or am I just out of luck? I don't have all of my old pins -- got in the habit of throwing them out after entering for a while, so any insight would be appreciated.

I think the only way for you to get a "Product Registration" option rather than "Product Registration Survey" is to have Intended to Buy a game and then not entered the code for it. Are you absolutely sure you entered codes for the games in question, and which games are giving you trouble?

Thanks, Clipper. I actually found a pin for one of the games in question (StarFox 64 3D), entered it, and it worked. So now I'm fairly sure it was just my own forgetfulness! I just saw some of the games on there, things like StarFox, Skyward Sword, and more; big games I was very excited about and swore I entered those pins! Definitely pays to have a tidy Club Nintendo account; no more hoarding for me.

Nintendo: One down.
Sigh... ain't that the truth. Took FOREVER

November 2011 or 2010?

2011. The game was released in November 2006 and all the listed expiry dates were 5 years after release.

Oh OK, weird. Well I did JUST register a copy of wario ware smooth moves. But I serendipitously did it on the 13th, and checking wikipedia it looks like the game came out 1/15/2007! Are those the oldest two games that you can get coins from? I seem to remember club nintendo starting shortly after they came out.

It didn't really start until late 2009 (at least in the rewards program form). A selection of games released in 2009 and earlier still qualified, the list of which can be seen in the OP. We had noticed many of the older expiry dates extending by 5 years as they neared expiry (back when we could see the years), but we weren't sure if all of them were doing it or still doing it.

Is there any way to see an older style to-do list? I don't really like that you can't see the year anymore since I was doing mine in the order they expired. Guess they are trying to crack down on people hoarding surveys to get platinum each year.

I posted this else where but, figured i'd post it here too.

In 2010 I got the Platinum Status reward at Club Nintendo which was this.

500x_figs.jpg

But I never got it in the mail. I was kinda disappointed but, I waited all the way until a few days ago to e-mail Nintendo about it. Someone from Nintendo e-mailed me 2-3 days later saying that they were sure this issue could be resolved but, I would have to call.

So I call them all the way in 2012, and sure enough they're sending me a brand new one all this time later.
The guy on the phone was incredibly helpful and talked to like two higher ups about it.

Freakin' sweet.

I'm also waiting on my Skyward Sword posters to come in. I been looking to get some frames for these as I have the previous Zelda poster set, but i'm not sure where to get the frames though.

No, yet there is no need to from the information we're getting. Games you entered since March 2011 actually have the expiry date that is listed on the site. Games you entered before that date would be displaying a year five years after the release date of the game, but it appears they are still automatically extending those by another five years as the dates approach.

Thus, the dates for your newer surveys are correctly listed and the ones for your older surveys that you have hoarded don't actually matter for now. Feel free to continue exploiting the system and denying Nintendo your feedback indefinitely.

So, if I hit platinum status and spend my coins on a prize, is my status gone? I'm confused about that.

Spending coins doesn't affect your Platinum status. I've bought games since I hit Platinum this year, for instance.

(Should we maybe add this to the OP somehow? It comes up an awful lot...)

Edit: Sniped by Roto.

So how will I know how many coins I have until platinum if I spend my coins now? I don't think I have spent any for quite a while.

Go to account & coins, then coins & status. Scroll down and you'll see "Elite Status History", Next to "2012 Elite Status" it'll show the total coins you earned this year.

Accounts & Coins > Coins & Status

When you have Gold or Platinum status, a little yellow G or gray P shows up next to your coins on the main page.

late january's coming up, hope they get these zelda posters sorted - been "backordered" for a minute now.

what's everyone's wishes for february lineup? 3DS case, and Metroid 2 over here! which again means we more likely get some Metroid Hunters type shit.

So, to double-check, I have to make my CN account a "family account" in order to register more than one of the same system, right? I have my original 3DS (that's been replaced) and my girlfriend's DSi registered currently, but I have my second 3DS and my own DSi that I've yet to register.

I have to say Club Nintendo is turning into one of the best programs ever. Especially since they added games as redemption rewards. I redeemed some of my coins for Majora's Mask. I am excited to see what else they will release over time. Hopefully sometime in the future Nintendo will let people redeem coins for ambassador games. I am dying to play The Minish Cap.
