CoD2 Patch Thread

If all goes as planned, the new CoD2 patch will be released today. Post here in this thread when/if you get it. I plan on booting up CoD2 tonight when I get home to see if it does update, and if it does, just how much was actually changed.

Hopefully it'll be a bigger patch than the Dashboard update :(

LIES!!!

If anything is fixed, it will likely be the game saves bug.
Definitely.

But CoD2 multiplayer is a broken game. At least I can hope for more than a lag/save update.

can the game save bug be explained to a late comer?

so far the only achievement i'm showing is passing training even though I'm many missions in on Veteran. is that a bug?

I played some public deathmatch last night, and though it was pretty fun and lag free, it was sniper heaven :(

The save bug is a bug where you'll be playing single player on CoD. Then, at the end of the level, instead of it continuing to the next level, it goes right back to the training level. From what I've heard, all the levels you've previously unlocked are once again locked, you cannot pick the level you were supposed to go to from level select, and, for some people, when they play through the campaign again, it won't let them get into the level they were supposed to advance to in the first place (it glitches again at the same spot)...er, hope that explains it lol

Thanksfully, I haven't eperienced the bug :D I've beaten the game on Veteran, and I found Hill 400 easier on Veteran as well lol

From what I've heard the save bug was down to the Xbox 360's OS and was to be fixed in the auto update yesterday, I'm going through Veteran now and still cross my fingers everytime I finish a mission :lol

I'm not sure if this is part of the save bug but I finished the last two Russian campaigns on Veteran one night awhile back and I didn't get the achievements nor did the game remember my last save point and yes I was logged in. After that I kinda lost interest of going any further.

That is not a bug if you are playing in a difficulty other than Veteran. Almost all the achievements are Veteran level based.

Where the hell is the PC patch ? They only released 1 for dual core pcs and thats it. Anyone have an ETA for PC COD 2 ?

Hey 360ers:

Rumour:

The patch, to be released on tuesday of next week, folliwing an important Xbox Live Dashboard update will include many new features. After a quick “beta-test” our reporter Henry Brookenheimer reports that ‘the update will include: Weapon Selection, 3 Gametype choices including CTF, a way to invite friends and start your own server, and dedicated servers to reduce online lag.’ The online community, mainly the folks over at the Xbox Forums (http://forums.xbox.com) have threatened to boycott Infinity Ward, the people behind Call of Duty 2, and ‘Ward is responding. Following the realease, (roughly two months) Jerry Gavin (Executive Art Director) says two new maps will be released saying , “I cannot reveal the names or aspects of the maps, but one will be set in a desert environment, the other in an African Rainforest.”

Debunked:

There is no one named Jerry Gavin working at Infinity Ward and they are not working on an African Rainforest map. The first patch file due out for Call of Duty 2 is not scheduled to fix any multiplayer bugs. The first patch file will only fix the "Saved Games Being Lost" bug.

It's quite disappointing Activision/IW isn't working on a patch to address the multiplayer concerns, considering how huge the game has turned out for the Xbox 360 launch. I guess they must be busy working on a PS3 version.

:lol Oh man, this situation just gets better and better everyday! So I guess it isn't worth asking if people know the exact reason behind the bug huh?

*hugs unbugged copy*

You can hug that copy all you want, every game disc was bugged. It's how you handle saving that initiates the bugs.
Oh I shall.. but I already have the achievements, so it really doesn't matter if it decides it wants to screw up.

I'm just looking for a confirmed "don't do this" reason to tell other people how to avoid it.

Cpl_Cain said:
My copy never bugged. How do you have to handle the saves?
There was talk that you should save and quit after every mission to prevent yourself from getting the bug. Supposedly it was caused by continually choosing "next mission", but that seems like bs to me...

I always chose "next mission" to move on to the next mission in a campaign. Then I'd "save & quit" after finishing the campaign itself.

A big fuck you goes out to Infinity Ward/Activision.

I will be far more careful before buying any of your games you fucking twats.

I agree...

<^>(0o)<^> Activision/Infinity Ward <^>(0o)<^>

And its funny how excited everyone is over at xbox.com and various other boards about how this patch is gonna add server creation, add max player increase etc... when really, it most likely won't fix anything but the save glitch...

lol I think we're already bitter about the dashboard patch

I posted this in the "Dashboard Update" thread, but it applies equally here, so it deserves a repost:

VERY interesting comments from Major Nelson's podcast regarding the COD2 problems. I transcribed his commentary, so I may have missed a word or two. The emphasis I've placed in bold is all his:

The other thing I wanted to point out is, I know some folks have been flooding my blog with COD2 feedback. I've given that feedback to the developer. And, just to be clear, I gave them this feedback BEFORE the Xbox 360 even launched. So I knew that there were going to be some issues and I gave them that feedback. So, it's not like I've been sitting around going "Oh, there's some feedback here." No, I'm very, very aware of what's going on.

Going by that, then all the comments from Activision support ("It's an MS issue, we provided the basic Live support and it works as intended") and the complete silence from Infinity Ward until the fans were in an uproar...was all just so much bullshit. They knew all along that they were releasing a game with broken online MP.

***

Now, contrast this initial denial of COD2 online problems from Activision (and the complete silence from Infinity Ward regarding the issues until message boards exploded with angry customers) with the response of Team Ninja regarding DOA4's online problems. Team Ninja has already acknowledged the problem and given us an approximate date for their patch, while all we've gotten from IW and Activision is a post on the xbox.com forums which pretty much breaks down to "We'll let you know when we get around to it! Thanks for the 60 bucks!" Fuck Infinity Ward, and fuck Activision. I'm only going to rent or buy used titles from them from now on. I refuse to reward a company who knowingly releases a game with a broken online component, and then denies the problem exists until the web community uproar forces them into an admission of responsibility.

I'm waiting for the patch for the definitive version.

Really? Any screenshot comparisons?

I'm really hoping for a 360 COD2 patch. I tried the game online a few times and it was about 50/50 playable. Half the time it was unplayable lag.

I can provide some PC shots. Not possible to take shots off the 360 unless you got the right gear.

This is disappointing. CoD2 is the best selling 360 game at the moment, nearly selling 1:1 with the system, and yet Infinity Ward and Activision aren't doing anything about the games problems on 360.

All I know is that I better not hear any more complaints from publishers bitching about used game sales and how they have to deal with tech support from these games. How they aren't getting any money. CoD2 has sold 520,000 on a 610,000 userbase and Activision isn't stepping up to the plate at all to deal with issues. Makes the whole industry look bad imo. I remember Infinity Ward were happy they were the first 360 game to go gold, and yet it is released with some major problems. This may be out of IW hands, but I'm not buying their next 360 game unless I know it is glitch free.

It would be in their best interest to get a patch up as soon as humanly possible, and until then acknowledge the online community by delivering some actual information regarding exactly what will (or won't) be included in the release along with an approximate date.

I've seen this exact sentiment expressed on just about every videogame forum I've been to. People are really pissed, they're remaining pissed, and they're going to remember it the next time they see IW's name on a 360 game. As far as I'm concerned the comments by Major Nelson were the final nail in their sales coffin for me, so I'm right there with you. Rentals and used ftw. I think they've lost quite a few future customers over this "denial, pass the buck, ignore until we can't" game they've played, more than they probably even realize.

Why should they? They already got our money. They don't give a shit about us.

And the reviews for this game are complete bullshit across the board. Not once have I ever noticed someone point out the MP shortcomings. Money hats? Quite possibly so.

the XBox360 call of duty 2 patch is out and as far as i can tell it does absolutely nothing

my guess is the system link and save game bugs are fixed and thats it
