COMICS! |OT| October 2016. Capes, Crime, Bondage, and sometimes Overwatch.

I have locke and key vol 1-6 digitally. I'm wondering if i should buy the two one shots or wait till they're collected in a new side volume thing.

Well they definitely will be collecting them man but it's a mystery how many they're shooting for at this time. If you're happy with digital I'd just pick them up man. Did you hear about the novella he's working on?

He is the one receiving the art tho.

He's also the one posting about how's he's fighting censorship on facebook while proudly displaying the cheesecake cover he used to make some easy dosh off of some easily worked dudes.

Dude's way too old for these fucking antics.

I have no problem with it. I've seen the same people that call this disgusting retweeting pictures of fan art of Batman sucking Robins dick. I've seen numerous people who would call this disgusting praising Babs Tarr and Nicola Scotts renditions of Nightwings ass.

I don't have a problem with Manara, the picture or even the first picture that started this but Cho is just being an unprofessional jerk these days. I can't fuck with him.

I have no issue with that type of stuff, my problem is understanding how it's seen as a problem with censorship. I just don't understand how it's not seen as a business decision to not want that type of art on covers or dealing with their characters if money is being made off of it.

You wanna do some niche fan shit on the internet by all means, but fighting to get as close as possible to it on actual covers just makes no sense to me.

Unless I'm misunderstanding this completely.

When artist draw Nightwing's butt it's usually playful and you normally don't see male sexuality often.

Hrmm, according to wiki, it will be 6 one shots. But with the 3rd coming out in December, it will probably take forever.

I haven't heard of this novella though.

His next book next year is going to be a collection of four novellas oppose to one larger novel, and one is going to be set in the world of Locke and key, which is kinda cool. I want more comics but this is a fine runner up haha

Pure coincidence but I just received/read through Joe Hill's Escape Hatch #1, the first installment in his new newsletter. He has a little to say about the Locke & Key tv series that they're hoping to get off the ground this time:

As it happens, I recently moved back into Keyhouse to stay for a while. IDW Comics has branched out into television, and are two for two with their first pair of shows: Wynonna Earp and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (which I've seen described as the stoner Doctor Who). They're aiming for the hat trick when they bring Locke & Key into your living room in the (hopefully) not too distant future. We came close to getting on TV back in 2011, when FOX produced a pilot, written with zip and style by Josh Friedman, and directed with chilly grace by Mark Romanek. It looked great and everyone liked it, but we didn't make it on the air. That happens. Probably the only thing harder than launching a new television show is opening a successful musical (Hamilton is the cultural equivalent of a meteor strike).

He even includes a little tease of the pilot script, which he's writing himself this time around.

Oh sweet! I will definitely read that novella and really hope the show makes it this time.

It’s still being ordered though. And is currently Marvel’s 3332nd most popular title….

I, from this day foreword, pledge to never buy an Overwatch loot box ever again.

....

Nah.

...until Christmas.

What is this Christmas you speak of? I only know of Winter Veil™, the holiday season enjoyed by all your favourite Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. characters.

I'm already counting the days until it's okay to play Christmas music. My finger is on the play button of the Buble playlist.

Couple of false equivalencies there. Context is important.

Batman going to town on Robins dick isn't part of a larger pattern of forcing every male platonic partnership into a sexual one. I'm not sure what piece or acclaim you're talking about so my best guess about it is that it's supposed to be a piece commenting on the sexual undertones of superheeo comics. Alan Moore worked to make those sexual undertones into overt ones which is why a lot of his deconstructive work in capes books was explicitly sexual.

Female creators depicting male characters sexually isn't a problem because it's rare that female creators have gotten those chances to do so. Their depictions don't fit into a comics culture that makes men feel like it's not an industry or medium for them because a comics culture that does that doesn't exist in this universe.

Manara's drawing to Cho could be fine in a different context. If it were part of a larger bit of criticism about how artists depict clothing on superheroes as nothing but slim colored film that grips very skin fold and muscle except for genitals. But it's not, it's another piece that is symptomatic of a comics culture that sexualizes inappropriately and often and continues to make women feel unwelcome in the comics space.

What this says to women is yeah this is how we actually want to depict you and we would do it more if we could get away with it but we can't explicitly so we are just not gonna draw labia but leave in those stupid thigh gaps everywhere.

Tl dr: Could the piece be fine? Yeah sure in another context. The pieces you mention don't operate within a comparative context that makes those pieces symptomatic of the greater issue.

I'm being serious. I can't be sucked in into this loop of buying boxes just to get skins I want, especially for a game I'm not playing as much anymore. I'm gonna have to force myself to be satisfied with what I have currently.

I'm just waiting for the comic butthole tumblr to drop.

Would love to see where they go for Swamp Thing.

I couldn't type this without laughing.

Nothing does that. There is no spandex that does that, thus reinforcing the idea that Manara really just wants to draw porn of Marvel characters. Which is fine, but not on the cover of those books.

When the former is actually on a Marvel cover and the latter is Nightwing's engorged dick sliding through his spandex, then we'll talk. Otherwise, I point to the long careers of Frank Cho, Ed Benes, Greg Land, J. Scott, Campbell, etc as counterpoint.

If you're not playing it, then I guess not.

Gimme them Winter Veil skins though. Another 50 boxes, let's go!

If Tracer isn't an elf I'm gonna riot.

I'm guessing we won't get legendaries for characters who got ones in previous events, and they'll change that rotation every year. Which sucks as I want Santa Reinhardt. I'm still mad we didn't get the wrestling singlet one they teased in the promo Summer Games stuff they sent to streamers.

Now if that sentence doesn't make a man uncomfortable. I think it's the use of the word "engorged." Just not a fun word, really.

I can't remember who they are at the moment, but I think it was two characters that hadn't had any event skins yet at all.

COMICS! |OT| November 2016 - Vote (With Your Wallet) (Because Marvel needs the cash)

e: also you know what? Manara's watercolor of Spiderwoman's full-on cooch is a better piece of art than anything Frank Cho has done in his entire career

I always think of the horse alien from Hickman's FF playing poker "MY HOME IS ENGORGED!":

Winston definitely hasn't had one. I think he's the only one actually.

Whoa, Mars Attacks IDW was really quite good. It takes the same concept as Infestation of some outside force attacking various properties in their own worlds in self-contained stories. But instead of just being meh, it's a collection of 5 fun one-shots that just run with it. Like, the execution is just so, so much better here. Also, the Transformers one in particular is really, really fun. So yeah, that's a book that's easy to overlook that's a lot more enjoyable than I would've expected, so I'd count that as quite the pleasant surprise.

Lol@ 'fighting censorship'

Right? More like "fighting a growing number of people who are uncomfortable with this practice."

To some people, this is fighting censorship. We can go ahead and shelve these clowns along with the myopic assholes who won't make wedding cakes for gay people if this is how they want to present what they're doing.

The greater issue being female representation in comics? I am 100% for equal rights and representation. But I'm also a realist and I understand the problem is so far removed from comics that some artist catering to an audience that has been there and will always be there is something me, you, and an army of complainers can do nothing about at a comics level. The problem is so entrenched into society that change that is needed probably won't happen in our life time.

So one group wants addition by subtraction and the other group says no you are not subtracting, we can just have addition on top of addition which saturates the market and one groups book doesn't sell and the cycle continues. If there is money to be made, people are going to figure out how to get their cut of the pie. Sex sells, always has, always will.

No time to replay right now but picked up a copy of rage after seeing it was added to the x1 bc list. Was anyone else a fan of this game? I remember response being quite mixed depending on which facets of the gameplay people focused on.

It was okay. I liked the Wasteland setting, but the game itself was generic as shit.

That's funny as I'd say the opposite. Setting is very by the numbers whereas actual core gunplay is fantastic. I loved playing it with the level select they added, just as a straight linear campaign. This is what I remember though, people were pretty split.

(Well I say fantastic, I considered it so at the time, it doesn't touch doom though)
